I hate that nasty huge bug

Hello fellow Vault Hunters !

I am painfully farming a Quasar for my Krieg since a few days.
Ultimate Badass Varkids are a pain to spawn and they usually drop me nothing

Decided to make a break to kill some raid bosses (Pete (easy), Hyperius (painful) and Master Gee (less painful)).

Received a Ahab from Gee, was feeling lucky !
When going out of Gee i realised all ennemies are far harder to kill !
Ha, yes, the 4 players switch…

Ha, what the heck, let’s try this !
Teleport to Caustic Caverns, miserably failed to have a good aggro, i fled to the Thundra Express Farmhouse.

I spawned the Varkids, let them play, the buzzards arrive and i hear a big sound : i spawned Vermivorous. O_O

Okay, let’s kill this thing !
I shoot at it, toss my Axes, grenades, died a LOT of time (and i mean a lot, with Vermi and all the Buzzards…). After one good hour, i managed to chip 1/5 of his life away.
No problmes, i have all night if it need to be.

I shoot, die again, go out of the house, see Vermivorous walking and screaming then suddently : nothing. Vanished in thin air.
I almost swallowed my controller…

Morality :

4 player difficulty is not worth it for me, i don’t have the skill to manage the greatly increased health and damage, especially on bosses
my Krieg now MUST feast on Vermivorouss insides.

So now, veterans, what would be your tricks to spawn Vermivorous in solo ?

And i bonus, what would be your prefered method to kill it with Krieg ?
From what i tested vermi is :

immune to burn DOTs (spayed him with a Hellfire or Novas from Flames of the Firehawk never seemed to apply anything, or for such a short duration that it was useless)
resistant to Explosive damage (my DPUH will be far less effective)
too tall to get hit by normal melee swing
very mobile so uneasy to hit with a thrown axe

I got him to spawn one time so far. I had to use infinity and bee shield, and mostly stayed in farmhouse shooting body parts that would stick through. Took about 45 mins straight shooting, and then he didnt even drop a legendary. Good times.

Have you tried with getting cover on the shack that is on the Varkid Ranch?

Tried again this morning for one hour.

Surving among the varkids is not that hard with a clever use of cover (put a spawning nest between you and the biggest treat and you are saved for long enought to get in range of RtB or to heal above health gate with a Moxxi weapon and a Storm Front).

Spawing the bugger solo is way more a pain…
I get 4 Badasses fairly often among a spawn set, but very rarely a Super Badass.
And the Super Badass must still evole to Ultimate Badass then to Vermivorous

Wow I feel sorry for you guys… I do that four player switch glitch and get vermi within like literally 40 seconds each time I try . I guess Im just REALLY lucky when it comes to vermi. As soon as he spawns I ***** smack him haha.

I’ve only done it with two other people using the four player program for the PC. And even that took awhile to do. Plus he was a pita to kill once he spawned.

Little update.

Tried to spwan Vermi in two player mode (playing on Xbox, connected a second profile), with the hope of been able to manage Vermi easier if it has lower health.

Worked on that for more than 3 hours without any success.
(was still able to get at least one Ultimate Badass every two-three runs that way, so killed a good 10 of them, but still not Quasar :’-( )

Then i got bored and tried to screw the game : went to Hyperius gate’s with my second controller connected, then teleported to Caustic Caverns. Was planning to spawn Vermivorous like that, the disconnect the second player in hope the game will see the player change and switch back to 1 player difficulty. It does not work, game stays in 4p…

But well, at least the spawns worked much better ! At a point i even got 4 Ultimate Badass at the same time !
But no Vermivorous, and no Quasar.

At 2h in the morning, i decided to go to sleep when a last lonly Varkid appeared.
I decided to let him level up and the little bugger went strait to Vermivorous !

I was shooting at it nicely, prepared to spend the night on the matter, then it suddently dropped dead. Went from 99.9% of his life to 0 in the blink of an eye. I have no idead what happened !

And he dropped me a Nasty Surprise. A grenade that i found once in the Treasure Room and once from i don’t remerber where.
A Norfleet or a Skin ? Nooo, what for ? Better let go a thing that can be found elsewhere !

Ho well. I will still try a bit ! For the glory !

I’ve heard tell that Vermi has a greater chance to spawn on Wam Bam Island. Is this true?

As far as I know (may be not true), the Tropical Varkids evolve to adult then straight to Super Badass. I’ve seen videos of guys fighting Craw and Vermi at the same time.

I really wish they’d gone to the extra effort to make elemental Badasses evolve further into Super/Ultimate then eventually ELEMENTAL VERMI!!!

@Neumeusis, I hate to tell you this mate, but unless you’ve got oodles of patience, you will be forced to attempt a 4 player mode.

The difference is 1/500 from Larval at 2p, to 1/50 in 4p. (Although it is slightly higher in UVHM).

If you had a PS3 mate I would have been happy to help you.

When soloing, the advice I give is the following. The interior of the farmhouse provides an excellent amount of cover.

When in 4p mode your usual RTB cycles will be useless. Especially if you’re attempting it in OP8. Playing Krieg like anything but Krieg may be the best of ideas.

Equip a Torch Mode, and hide in the farmhouse, relying whittling him down. It may take a while so I’d take an Infinity with me (bee wouldn’t hurt either).

You can of course gun and get more ammunition (in the circumstances that you’re feeling brave).

I know of certain rascals who have used the train to kill Verm.

I officially hate this mechanic…

I spent the week-end trying to get a Quasar, and no luck.
Yesterday i had even 3 UBA at the same time, was killing them nicely then they all vanished in thin air at the same time.
This is HIGLY frustrating…

So far the best results i had were in the Caustic Caverns.

I know Krieg is maybe not the best character for bosses, but well, i had fun until now doing so.

I will take a little break on the hunt for now, but i’ll be back !

Honestly, the Verm mechanic is one of my least favorite in the game.

Even the Dex mechanic is better in my opinion.

I get annoyed by the idea that you have to be “lucky” to spawn him in 1p mode.

“Lucky” doesn’t really justify how rare it actually is to get a verm spawn in single player. The chances are abysmal

Good News Everyone !

My Quest is finally over ! Thanks for all your help and messages !

I finally managed to :

Kill Vermi myself
Get my greedy little hands on a Quasar

I did it wit ha mix of your advises and some personnal finds.
The main problems i faced :

random evolutions : random is a pain and should never be so high. A bit yes, so much no…
farmhouse does not providing a correct cover when too many Varkids are spawns
insane damage from the high level Varkids that healthgate you almost instantly
dying in Caustic Carverns make the Varkids and Crystalisk despawn
not killing the Varkids fast enough make then despawn

With all that informations, i prepared and geared with :

my standard Mania/Bloodlust gear
a The Bee (yes, lame, but i farmed it specially for this…)
A fire Infinity that i got in the chests near Pyro Pete
A Ruby
Storm Front

Other preparations :

unlock Master Gee’s Arena
prepare my second controller (playing on Xbox)

Now, how i proceeded :

Run to Gee’s Arena to active the 4 players mode
Run back to the Caustic Caverns
Run around near the entrance trucks to spawn all the little Varkids
Once most of them morph to Adults, run around the little shack then hide into it
Wait and hide from the Adults and Badass attacks
After a few moments, a Crystalisk should spawn, taking care of the aggro for me
Put a timer. If after 300 seconds no Vermivorous, save & quit then go back to Step 1.

Why not kill all then repeat with a new spawn ? 4p Varkids takes too much time ti kill, shorter to save&quit

If Vermivorous spawns (or in the case of the Quasar farm, enought Ultimate Badasses Varkids)

Connect a second player => Game will switch to 2 players mode
Save & quit the just added character => Game will change to 1 player mode

Now all is needed is shooting at your ennemies and hope for a prizzzeeeee…

Bonus : if you get into FFYL with no hope of Second Wind, quickly connect the second player and get the ennemies into field of view to prevent the despawn, respawn your character, get him into combat and disconnect the second second player to reduce the difficulty.

And on my second try, the so rare Quasar. Not the best ever, but still, i got it !

And i was lucky, got him to spawn 3 times yesterday. He dropped :

the skin
again a Nasty Surprise
a Legendary Psycho mod (NOOOOOO !!! Tubbys already gave me this one a few times !!!)

Sadly no Norfleet but now that i have a reliable process i might try to get one like that (killed Hyperius 30 times and still no Legendary drop, so i hope Vermivorous will be a better bet !).
