I am in the process of building the Jakobs pistol from Borderlands 2. This will be all of the parts to build the pure Jakobs pistols, such as the Iron and Rex series pistols.
An album of the previous progress can be found here, or you could take a look at the original thread on the old forums here.
Here’s what it looks like so far:

I’ll be posting on this thread throughout the rest of my build process.
Almost finished with all of the parts! These two little parts are the front and rear rings for the sight/scope. I think that these two little parts may have been the most difficult parts of the whole build! The rings are turned from acrylic on the lathe, and the straight parts are all built up of styrene and epoxy putty. Keeping all of the grooves all even was tricky, and they had to perfectly fit around the sight base. There is also a tiny screw that I turned and slotted. Whew!
Here’s a close-up of my knurling tool on the lathe, putting the knurling (that ridged pattern), on a blank for one of the little knobs on the sight/scope.
Finally, I am all finished with all of the parts for the master!
With the additional parts for the sight/scope, and the other cylinder swapped in, you can now see the Jakobs pistol in it’s Rex form, as in Sir Hammerlock’s gun. The only thing that is left is to model the larger hemisphere on the receiver/frame, with the loading gate built in. I will model this as an added overlay part for both sides on one of the first cast receiver frames out of my mold, and make it separate cast add on parts.
I also need to make up a rear sight that mounts in front of the hammer.
Now, I am finishing up my vacuum chamber build, and will soon start pouring molds. Yea!
Thanks for your patience, everyone. Once I got all of my materials and equipment in place to start pouring molds, I got hammered with this nasty respiratory flu that seems to be going around. As soon as I can, I will get started on the molds.
wow that’s some really neat molds! mine are never that neat
You know what would be amazing? If you get some heat resistant silicone, you could roto-cast them in metal (something like pewter that melts at around 230 c
This Jakobs pistol part took hours to finish the clay-ing. You may notice that I prefer to build sprue and vent formers into my molds instead of cutting them afterward. Nice round sprues and vents unmold easily and cleanly.
I’ve hit a bit of a roadblock for the moment on finishing up the molds for the Jakobs pistol. I was readying the last of the molds for pouring silicone, and discovered that all three of my cans of mold spray release are buggered up, and don’t spray. I don’t think that I can get more locally (one of the downsides of living in the middle of the pacific ocean is lack of access to materials). Unfortunately, shipping of aerosols by air is very expensive. I will look more into my alternatives tomorrow, when everyone is back to work. Dang!
