Super Duper Top Gear for Jack

This is community guide to the top gear for Jack. Feel free to suggestion gear that you feel should be up here. Gear may be added or dropped over the course of the game due to hotfixes, patches, or dlc. There may be an Honorable Mentions category if there are pieces of gear that perform well but fall just short of top gear. Currently with the lack of dlc, a honorable metion section won’t be added.

The criteria that gear is evaluated is as follows:

  • Damage potential
  • Skill synergy
  • Secondary effects (melee bonus, healing, other utility)
  • Versatility
  • Ease of use
  • Ammo usage
  • Other

Each piece of gear will list a short description of what it does, available elements, ideal parts and where you can find it.

Shotguns

Striker
Fandir? Thirteen.
The accuracy on this is the best of any Jakobs shotgun while still maintaining the hard hitting punch Jakobs are known for. Jack’s accuracy boosts from Company Man and several crit boosts make this a real nice choice.
Elements: NE
Best Parts: Jakobs grip, Hyperion stock, Doc’s (critical) or Rustler’s (extra pellets) prefix
How to Get:

Sledge’s Shotgun
The legend lives.
Retains its burst fire gimmick from the original Borderlands. Like other shotguns, boosts from Company Man, Inspire, Believe and Absolute Advantage make this thing a beast.
Elements: NE, Shock, Fire, Corrosive, Cryo
Best Parts: Bandit grip, Hyperion stock, Melee accessory (locked)
How to Get:

Flakker
Flak the world.
Each shot fires 3 bullets that explode in a cone shaped pattern of 10 child pellets. The pattern does have a slight learning curve but if you take the time to master it you’ll be rewarded greatly.
Elements: EXPLOSIONS!!!
Best Parts: Torgue grip, Hyperion stock, Casual (extra pellets) prefix
How to Get:

Quad, Torgue Ravager
Purple shotgun with a torgue barrel. These are typically a situational shotgun because of their high ammo consumption and poor accuracy. This can be easily countered if specced into Company Man, Believe and Absolute Advantage. Jakobs are preferred because of their high damage.
Elements: NE (Jakobs limited to only NE), Shock, Fire, Corrosive, Cryo, EXPLOSIONS!!! (Torgue only)
Best Parts: Jakobs or Matching grip, Hyperion stock, Crit or Vertical Grip accessory
How to Get: World Drop

Jakobs Coach Gun
Purple Jakobs shotgun with a Jakobs barrel. Considered by many the most ‘bang for your buck’ shotgun. Uses only 2 ammo per shot and will one shot most mobs.
Elements: NE
Best Parts: Jakobs grip, Hyperion stock, Doc’s or Rustler’s prefix
How to Get: World Drop

Bullpup
One bad pup!
Very solid damage and has around double the mag size of a typical Hyperion shotgun.
Elements: NE, Shock, Fire, Corrosive, Cryo
Best Parts: Locked grip and stock, Practicable (extra pellets) prefix
How to Get:

Moonface
What a BOOMING smile you have.
Unique Jakobs shotgun that fires in a smiley face pattern, which makes for an inaccurate shot, typically. Company Man and Doppelganger class mod helps ease any of those issues.
Elements: NE w/ Explosive Splash
Best Parts: Jakobs grip, Hyperion stock, Ruster’s (extra pellets) prefix
How to Get:

SMGs

IVF
OMG! TWINS!
Tediore SMG that spawns two child SMG’s after the inital explosion. The go-to for a Tediore chucking build.
Elements: NE, Shock, Fire, Corrosive, Cryo
Best Parts: Bandit grip, Dahl stock, Hefty (damage) prefix
How to Get:

Fatale
Stone-cold killer.
Highest accuracy SMG in the game. Reasonable stats all around make this a great choice for people with good aim.
Elements: Cryo
Best Parts: Hyperion, Maliwan or Bandit grip, Hyperion stock, Rightsizing (damage) prefix
How to Get:

Torrent
Spray it to slay it.
High fire rate SMG with great accuracy. Truly a devastating weapon in anyone’s hands.
Elements: NE, Shock, Fire, Corrosive, Cryo
Best Parts: Dahl grip, Dahl stock, Flying (fire rate) or Stopping (damage) prefix
How to Get:

Hellfire
We don’t need no fire…
It may be locked in fire but that doesn’t hurt it. This has decent damage with an extra 50% splash. Any weapon damage or fire rate boost you can pick up makes this very good.
Elements: Fire
Best Parts: Maliwan grip, Dahl stock, Consummate (damage) or Impetuous (bullet speed) prefix
How to Get:

Fridgia
Icy Moon of Munga.
Unique Dahl SMG that uses 1 ammo per shot while firing 2 bullets at once, making this extremely ammo efficient. Between the high freeze chance, good accuracy and multiple projectiles, this make it not only a near instant freeze but also a great gun for putting enemies down.
Elements: Cryo
Best Parts: Dahl grip, Dahl stock, Flying (fire rate) prefix
How to Get:

Meat Grinder
The lead rain falls!
Unique Scav SMG that fires 3 projectiles at the cost of 2 ammo, making it solid on ammo efficiency. The low fire rate and ok accuracy can be countered if specced properly.
Elements: NE, Shock, Fire, Corrosive, Cryo
Best Parts: Bandit grip, Dahl stock, True-Blue (damage) or Kwikner (bullet speed) prefix

Chronicler of Elpis and Indistinguishable Projection COMS need to be on the list, simply because they boost Company Man lol. In fact, I think Projection might beat CEO since it also boosts Absolute Advantage.

I’ll be looking at all the new gear soonish. With holidays and overtime at work recently I haven’t had much time to mess around with stuff. I’ll keep this in mind when I finally do get around to it. Thanks for the input.

not on a tourge gun it ain’t

Which are you talking about, the quad/ravager?

Yep, that would be the one. But then I realized that the post was far from finished. I’m sure you’ll have it all sorted in a few days after the holidays.
Happy Holidays by the way

Yeah, I grouped them together since they behave similarish, but reading it now it’s a little confusing. I’ll probably split those back up. Thanks for the feedback and happy holidays.

Just a question so it doesnt matter whether or not the name on the card says jacobs, the Striker Im referring, as long as it as Hyperion parts, it gets the benefit from Company Man?

I don’t think that’s how it works. Gotta be Hyperion manufactured.

It has to be manufactured by Hyperion. I’m currently running:

Bullpup (shock)
T4S-R (fire)
Mining Laser (corrosive)
Fatale (cryo)
Celestial Doppelganger
Quasar
3DD1.E
Prismatic Bulwark

With 5/5 company man, I have 8 stacks. It’s working out rather well @ level 59.

Where are the pretty colors? :frowning:

Sorry about that. This game lost my interest really quickly and I don’t plan on coming back for any more TPS. If someone more active in the community wants to pick this up then they’re more than welcome too.

For jack right now I’m having fun using the Flayer and Maggie with all other gear hyperion. I highly recommend getting a Flayer (got mine off of EOS, during his one time guarantee drop during the story)

If nobody else is interested, I offer to take over this thread, as far as formatting and maintaining it.

All yours. Do you want me to send you the OP text so you can get a jump start?

If nobody offers to take over by Friday, send me the text, so I can post it and start formatting.
There’s a lot of people who are way more knowledgeable than me. I don’t want to step on anyone’s toes.
Still, we won’t see any new DLCs, so I doubt we’ll see more items. So it’ll mainly be formatting. I like formatting, but I hate testing.

I can always help with a weapons/items guide if ya need ^^ granted you’ll end up at the grinder for most his gear I use since quite a few only come from grinder or one time encounters
