Mord with repeaters only?

Done! Repeaters may be manly, but only in the same way that self-flagellation is manly. They have generally low accuracy and tons of recoil, so forget about easily killing anything far away. They have small mags, low damage, and low to mediocre fire rates, so forget about easily killing anything up close. Seriously, with very few exceptions, they are not very good. In general, there is virtually no reason to use any non-unique/legendary over a machine pistol.

The disappointing:

  • The Hornet is no Defiler. Sorry to the folks who say otherwise. I’d rather have a very accurate weapon with big damage and big DOT than a weapon I have to click frantically to apply a fountain of little green numbers. Yes it gets the job done, but I didn’t enjoy using it very much.
  • The Firehawk is no Hellfire. It’s like a thumper hellfire with a shitload of recoil that doesn’t proc at least half the time.
  • Krom’s Sidearm is pretty good…it’s like a high-tech combat rifle that blocks your vision when you shoot it. But like all shock weapons, you don’t need to use them very much.

The surprisingly good:

  • Well, not really a surprise, but elemental Violators wreck. If you’ve never tried one out because of the low damage numbers, you should do yourself a favor and try it. They are my favorite elemental shotguns in the game, and they aren’t even shotguns.
  • Athena’s Wisdom can be very good, depending on the version you get. The extra crit damage and super accuracy of my version made it great for collecting zombie brains…point and click killing, amazingly even easier than using a masher.
  • a double Knoxx’s Gold is the best non-elemental repeater in the game. It has less damage and less fire rate than an Atlas, Torgue, or Vladof, but the huge recoil reduction makes it an absolute joy to use when hip-firing and the huge mag is very nice. Yes, I got incredibly lucky with the version I found…but man was it fun. Even a Double Thanatos has tough competition from this gun. It may have half the fire rate, but it is putting all those bullets through a MUCH smaller circle. For hipfiring, I dare say it is better than a double thanny.

Anyone ever try this before? I’ve played through a bunch of times and the only repeaters I ever end up using are the Firehawk and sometimes Thanatos. So, I figured I would try using nothing else to see what I’m missing, and if they’re as crappy as I always thought.

So, if I can figure out how to post pictures in this new forum:

Decent repeater in the first chest, but can’t use it yet…looks like it’s melee til the next one!

There’s always this one. I wonder how long I’ll need it.

Of course!

And a nice double elemental find at the end of the seeds area:

It’s going to take me a long time to do this (can’t play much anymore) but I’ll try and remember to update this as I go. I’m not sure if I’ll include machine pistols…seems like it might make it too easy. So far it hasn’t been an issue since the clipper sucks and I haven’t found another one yet.

I’m sure this has been done before. Hell, I’d be surprised if @Kitty_Jo hasn’t done this with one of her Hunters. And I will say, I do hate Repeater Pistols, but the Nemesis is an exception. That gun just wrecks. However, it is a Pearl, so good luck finding one.

Done this. Also: only snipers, and only revolvers.

All are doable and fun!

I’m sure I’m not the first to ever do it, just interested in comments from those who have tried it. I have a nemesis on an older character and it does wreck.

Definitely doable. A bit slow to start out I felt, but it picks up come middle-end game when you find bigger and better repeaters. The Nemesis will outshine them all however.
Have fun with it!

***Repeaters*** are MANLY.

Is this repeaters and only repeaters? No machine pistols? No revolvers? It would be difficult for me to resist using some weapons, like the Thanatos or a Masher.

Revolvers would definetly be out. They use a different ammo type. And Revolver only playthrough is easy.

If I were doing this I’d allow myself Machine Pistols, really they are just Body5 for repeaters.

You have to go for the elemental Repeaters, they proc with a crazy amount of frequency. And have some good Machine Pistols to spray n prey on rushing enemies. Maybe even a Hyperion Rage to mix it up.

Is that why the Nemesis procs so often? It’s not because of the red text? Sorry, I almost never use repeaters.

The Nemisis has a unique elemental accesory which means it works on different rules to a normal gun.

But all repeaters have high proc rates and low proc costs, non-red text ones can only proc at x1 or x2 even if it says x4, which means you’ll get heaps of small elemental blasts before emptying the tech pool.

Ah, thanks.

Got a little time in this morning. I decided no machine pistols, since I already am familiar with them. Seems like I would end up using them heavily, and the whole point is to use the normal ones.

I also decided to bump it to 4 players using the slider. Might as well make it really difficult, right?

Only one thing worth using today. Got my ass kicked by Bone Head (several times), and managed to take out Moe and Marley only with the help of several dozen bandits…had to wait for them to respawn after the first go!

Can anyone tell me how to put in pictures? The old [shot] tags don’t work…

You could either just upload it directly from your computer using the picture button across the top of the text box (looks like mountains and a moon)
Or if its saved on the web somewhere, right click the image and “copy image” it, and paste it back here.

Thanks KJ. Looks like I got it figured out.

Surprise, a little more playing time last night. Got a couple minor upgrades but haven’t found anything great yet. Even the worst-possible-parts fire pistol I have works surprisingly well, since the fire DOT seems to scale with my level. That’s about the only thing I’ve been using, so I have a real hard time with BA fire skags!

The safehouse was manageable (burned everyone), shock caverns was rough (kept running out of ammo), and the circle of slaughter was damn near impossible, with the lv19 fire skag at the very end. Took about 15 minutes to kill him, with only bloodwing, since I was of course out of ammo.

Hey, a nearly perfect shield in the Safehouse vendor! Good thing I always carefully manage my mon…

Minor upgrade for my shock repeater:

Wish I could use these!! I swear I don’t find stuff like this on a normal playthrough…

Haha, weapon or manufacturer restrictions always seem to bring up some amazing finds with weapons you can’t use. Happens to me all the time.

That shield was crazy expensive, but damn it would have set you for the whole first playthrough! That’s a shame.

A few more hours in! Headstone mine needs more ammo boxes, Skagzilla took (only) 18 minutes to kill, and I hate Mad Mel. Next stop: Krom…

Why not. My old one sucks too.

This is becoming a depressingly common sight. It pains me, but I had to spec into Swipe…

First legendary…surprise, it’s an equalizer!

An upgrade to my level 5 fire pistol, finally

Hey, first corrosive repeater! And it’s even half decent.

This one hurts to pass up…

The Mad Mel fight looked mostly like this…that battle is such bull-doodoo, even without 4-player mode going.

Yes please!!

Yes please again!! Not quite worst possible parts (yay action2)

No fair…I never ever find these!

If I didn’t already have the hornet, I’d be stoked about this one. It still may come in handy later.

Some more!

I died a LOT in Krom’s Canyon; can’t really explain why. Rakk hive = no problem, thanks to the Dove. I usually don’t bother getting it, but figured it would be worth it for sure this time!

Old Haven got trashed by my crappy Hornet, and the fire Dove made easy work of the Baron and buddies. Didn’t even have to fire a shot at Master McCloud…seven corrosive betties did the trick!

Not bad:

right next to it, even better!

a minute later, even better!

Been looking forward to this the whole playthrough…come on, not RF, not RF, not RF…poo

Another little upgrade:

Oh yeah!

Fire and free bullets? sign me up.

The curse hits again, and again, and again…oh, then again and again too.

I just can’t wait until you reach the point where you are rocking Krom, Hornet, and Firehawk all together. It will be the ultimate payoff for all of your frustration.

The Firehawk is a beast. Once you get one of those it will definitely be smooth sailing.

Yeah, I’m looking forward to it…it will happen, eventually!

It’s just hard to believe that in one (incomplete) hunter playthrough I have found, and cannot use: an Anaconda, a Cobra, 2x Volcano (no pics), an Orion (!), a Vengeance (these are rare for me) AND a Double Thanatos.
