Me and a friend were thinking on how to innovate the customization of the weapons. At first we thought of different weapon attachments that would drop around the world with a different stat boost to a weapon. They would have different rarities to their drop but no level so they could be used on different weapons. But there would be restrictions like if you find a Hyperion SMG Barrel you could only use that on Hyperion SMG’s. Anyway, we scrapped that Idea due to it being too close to the CoD, Battlefiend, Payday Genres. Right now i’m just trying to share our train of thought.
Next step and finalization of the thought came quickly. We like to call it Eridium Infusing. The only problem is that Eridium might not be that kind of currency for BL3. So let’s just call it Infusing for now. Anyway Infusing would entail getting enough of the Eridium/Moonstone/ThisKindOfCurrency to infuse with a certain component of a weapon. Since Borderlands loot system drops different type of components on a weapon this could be pretty interesting if done right. Once enough currency is accumulated the player could go to a vendor/person to infuse that currency with the weapon They would choose the component to upgrade and that would give a gain to a certain weapon stat. This can be done with all components to a weapon but it gets exponentially more expensive. 2-3 times more expensive then the last purchase to that weapon. This would allow a prolonged life to some weapons that players like.
Here are a couple examples of How we we think this could be done.
Let’s start with a Hyperion SMG with different weapon components.
Hyperion SMG
Dahl Barrel
Jakobs Stock
(Don’t really know the different parts on the top of my head but I hope you understand)
Anyway if you choose to upgrade the Dahl barrel it would upgrade the stat from that weapon company as well as upgrading accuracy. So Less recoil and Better accuracy because it would make the barrel a bit stronger.
Now if you had a Hyperion Barrel it would double up on the accuracy bonus instead of adding a dual stat upgrade.
The different parts would upgrade different amounts while adding that manufacturers benefit. Yes if a weapon has multiple parts from the same company it would stack.
Infusing a part would place a mark on the area or make a certain small pattern like the LuneShine of the Pre-Sequel changing the look of the weapon as well.
THIS WOULD NOT INCLUDE SIGHTS!!
Sights:
Let’s go back to the drops that I was talking about earlier, The scrapped idea. Let’s take a bit out of the trashcan.
For the sights There should be multiple different sights from each manufacturer and we could use them on each weapons. One of my main gripes about BL2 and the Pre-Sequel were the sights. Sorry, but a good many of them were god awful. So, to remedy this let’s let the players choose which ones they want to use. As before Loot rarity, no level requirement but it CANNOT be taken off the weapon once it’s put on.
Thanks for reading, if you didn’t TL;DR Infuse parts of a weapon to make it better, Let us choose different sights. Make a new drop table for sights.
