Well, you can in Borderlands: the PreSequel. Kind of.

Well, the characters we play as might not be textbook villains, but they are kind of bad guys… sort of. True that they are treasure hunters, but they all have shady backgrounds and are basically outlaws, mercenaries, fugitives (before Jack), pirates, grave robbers, killers and a little bit sociopaths.

That said, it would be nice to play as a thresher or a loader. I wonder what skill trees would they have?
