I’ve been looking through the Jack threads and haven’t seen much discussion on Take Their Freedom, the tier 2 skill in Hero Of This Story.
It gives you 2.5% of your max health back per rank when you kill an enemy, including Leadership deaths. At 5/5, it heals you for 12.5%, or 1/8 of your max health per kill. You can boost it with class mods, too, up to 27.5% with a blue +6 or 25% with a purple +5.
Am I the only one who thinks this skill is REALLY GOOD? Whenever your DJs kill something or die, BAM that’s a big chunk of HP back. Whenever YOU kill something? BAM. HEALTH. Maybe it’s because I’m only level 40 or so, but I think this skill deserves some more discussion.
I think it’s amazing for its on command Heal even with just 5/5. @Derch hates it because it heals the digi-jacks (Which I think is pointless cuz you should be constantly on the move and therefore don’t actually care what health they’re at)
I find it to be incredible with with the Jackasses so long as you don’t move too much (which I don’t, because I have 1 or 2 hulking meat shields that gain extra damage the longer I stay still, which in turn heps them get kills to keep me and them alive). Between TTF and Persistence during cooldowns, I don’t find myself wanting for health at all with Jack.
I think it’s a bit redundant, because Teamwork exists.
Also, Hero of this story is a pretty terrible tree, I’d much rather use the points to get more of the awesome stuff in greater good.
I like to have it, since i’m grabbing Best Foor Forward on the way anyway and i can still get all the best skills in greater good at my level. I’m probably going to leave those 10 points there forever, and focus on getting through the company man tree. Once I hit absolute advantage at around level 60, i’ll be unstoppable.
I mean that’s debatable on the guns front depending on how heavily you’re spec’d into AA and the weapons you choose (Obviously bigger mags lets you chain longer but with the Yellow Glitch AND Marginal Benefits you really don’t need to have the bigger mag) . If you’re using Quasar’s I mean the extra grenade damage helps but that hardly why you use the quasars (It would help with Nasty Surprises I guess but I use them for cryo if at all).
You’ve also said before that Jack doesn’t need more damage, but I’ve seen you put points in the fairly underwhelming regen skill in the FE tree before putting points into TTF.
I guess we just don’t agree on how to play Jack, I also don’t care for Maginal Benefits, but hey who cares because Jack is awesome and you can play him so many ways.
I mean It’s an ok skill on average, but if you either happen to have a com that boosts it you can abuse it. But even at one point it’ll help you elongate a glitch (It’s only 9%/Level but since you’re getting a free grenade every couple seconds you can play with the odds.
I’m just pointing out that you’d rather take up to 5% health per second over 12.5%-25% health on command, which is basically a higher per second rate practically all the time.
But it heals my jacks and sometimes I don’t want to run to kill them because I want to aim and shoot and you can’t move fast while you ADS. Also with optimism they spawn with so little health after awhile that you can just let them die.
just a quick correction: it’s up to 25% health per second, while maintainting that is not viable, I’ve typically been running about 4 stacks in normal combat, so 10% health per second, which is quite a lot, if you take into account that Winning is also in the same tree.
nonono I was talking about the Free Enterprise tree (it’s literally just a flat health regen, the skill looks like a care package). Derch takes 5 point in that over TTF and that is only up to 5%/sec.
I also take sustenance in bl2, passive always on heath regen is a great defense against dots and sometimes you can’t get a kill or all the enemies are dead.
I think you underestimate passive health Regen. DOTs are dangerous and also that skill doesn’t heal your digi jacks.
Also on the one build I use that skill on I have the rerouter for health back on a shot combined with winning as well as teamwork. It’s more than taking one skill over another.
Lastly I already said it doesn’t matter, take what you like he has tons of great skills. Why do you keep going on this.

I don’t use it. I just spec 1 point into supply and demand for constant health regen. there’s so much health that drops from enemies or even from the eddie oz kit that health has never really been an issue for me with any toon
But you have on command Kills with your action skill, the CD of which should be always near max, I really like the Middle Tree Regen skill, but TtF is almost always better than supply and demand which requires you to be low to give you your measily 5% regen.
I also picked it because its not as reliant on your jacks being out. Have you ever caught a dot, killed all the enemies and then died because there was nothing left to kill? Take Their Freedom and Teamwork don’t do anything in that case. Again with Winning and the Rerouter I pretty much already had TTF and didn’t need to double up on that, also I don’t want my jacks healed at all. So S&D does what those didn’t do, DOT protection, passive healing not reliant on anything else.
I also am a huge fan of Sustenance for Maya and a lot of people say its point less because it doesn’t do anything for healthgate and I see those players die to dots all the time while I don’t die to dots, and I die much less than your average player. Partly because I understand the value in passive healing.
It’s not simply this skill vs that skill, its all your gear combined to what you need. A > B, A is different than B and they each have a purpose in a different situation.
When I put everything into account, S&D fit the hole better than TTF.
I’m really sorry you can’t understand that and I hope you play with your own build, but I made my choice and it works well for me. I tried it many ways and went with what worked best. You can do the same with what ever you choose. The game has diversity so use it.
