Just reached 72, barely learning about OP8

Ok so upon getting to 72 after leaving the game behind for a very long time, I’ve started to read about OP8. I pretty much understand everything, but a few things need clarification.

First off, how hard is it to beat all 8 levels by myself? My deathtrap destroys everything on site after slagging them, but it looks like I won’t get far in that digistruct thing. What’s the farthest you think I’d be able to reach by myself?

And secondly, after completing each level, will a new play through unlock? I.e. play through “OP8”? Or does it just scale everything up from the UVHM playthrough that you’re currently on?

And lastly, once everything is scaled to OP8, does that mean shift code keys will unlock OP8 items from the chests? Or will they still be 72? Will mission quests also be shown as OP8? Or will still say level 72?

Thats hard to say, some tear through it, some really struggle. It’s not easy, but not impossible either, just a solid challenge. If you have been away from the game for a bit you might be rusty that won’t help.

It’s not a new play through like TVHM to UVHM, when starting a game you choose your level 0-8 and the enemies will scales to that, it is still your UVHM play through.

Golden chest will be op8, missions will be what you accepted them as. So if you accepted a mission on op0 or 72 and turn it in on op8 the reward will be 72. But if you are on op8, the quest and gear will be op8.

Awesome reply. If you had to estimate, how long would each OP level take if you’re doing it by yourself?

And I’ve been playing this for a good two months. Still kicking ass. my deathtrap does most of the work for me, though.

The first 5 are fairly short and the last 3 add quite a bit.

But an op8 digi run can take anywhere from 15 mins to well over an hour depending on the player. First time I would assume at best the last 3 rounds will be 40 mins + and you will fail a few times at least. The first 5 maybe around 30 mins each roughly. Its really hard to say without knowing you or seeing you play.

Unlocking later OP levels definitely takes some time, you need to familiarize yourself with enemy spawns and their variables. But Mechro is a solid class for Digistruct Peak IMO, specially with Anarchy.

Really depends on your build, your skills and gear- but not in that order and with a bit of luck involved. I had help with Gaige from OP2 thru OP7 but did the final run to unlock OP8 on my own. If you decide to reset your play thru on UVHM so that’s it’s completely OP8, just be aware that when you restart the game, the OP level will be set to 0- you have to manually raise it to OP8 (just like you have to manually raise it each time you gain a new OP level).

If you are playing as Gaige, I could say that the best spec is a 26/26/15 with a Roid shield for DT and a Legendary Mechromancer COM. Try it, I guess you should at least unlock OP2~3 with your 72 gear if it is top gear.

Yeah I tried it by myself after level 2 and i couldn’t do it. I posted a topic on this forum asking for help going through 2-8. Hopefully I’ll find someone.

You’ll need to figure out for yourself how Gaige works as you go. There are some noticeable jumps in difficulty as you run through on different OP levels, some by virtue of the particular critter types that spawn, others due to enemy counts. For all the characters that I ran through OP8, for example, I gave each of them my best gear for the last three or four levels (I only play allegiance builds, and I couldn’t get any of them through that on their own merits). Sandhawk, Pimpernel, Unkempt Harold, Grog Nozzle, Hive (drunk hive is awesome), Bee/Blockade shields… felt like cheating, but there are some nasty choke points in there. I played very defensively, and might have spent like an hour on some of the latter runs.

Deathtrap was weird… sometimes he would clear out a section on his own, sometimes something would gank him in like one or two shots. I mostly used him as a decoy to keep fire off of me (like a lizard that drops its tail when under attack).

How’s anarchy? Deathtrap looks like he’s about to be useless soon

And oh, every time I beat the mission to get the next OP level, do I have to go to the character menu each time and scale the enemies up as well? Or do I just complete all 8 in UVHM with OP level set to 0? Or does it not make any difference?

Anarchy is generally very good. You have to raise the OP level each time you complete a run thru DigiStruct Peak, in order to be able to unlock the next level. If you don’t raise the level first, upon completion you won’t unlock the next OP level.

I think you do need to quit the game and raise the OP setting manually.

Anarchy gives you a huge damage boost and that’s precisely what you need. I’d also consider farming a Bee every two levels or so, it’s not for constant use but in certain situations it can be very helpful.

Deathtrap is also useful if you give him a roid or nova shield.

I didn’t use Anarchy until I got my first Mechromancer to level 72 and then began trying it out (accuracy loss was verboten - no way was I going to use a skill that promoted this!). It is definitely a unique play style - if you haven’t yet done it, it’s at least worth a shot to see if you like it (and there are a few different ways to play with it at that). If you’re concerned about the accuracy loss, it’s pretty acceptable until, what, maybe between 50 and 100 stacks (although sniping at distance obviously suffers sooner).

At the very least, there are skills below Anarchy that are worth eating that point (and then ignoring the Anarchy if you don’t like it. Robot Rampage is one of Deathtrap’s best (in my opinion) skills for killing things, especially in UVHM without shield augmentation. Also, Blood Soaked Shields opens up with a point in Anarchy, which is similarly worth eating the point just to get there.

Ok guys, sorry for this long post, but I’m confused, big time. Bare with me.

Alright guys, I had a weird experience and I need some answers. I barely play online ever, so I don’t keep up with how people do things. Anyways, I was getting massacred over and over so I hit the public button and this guy comes to help me, and he’s just slaughtering left and right (this was OP2), so I was very happy for this guy coming in. At one point we both die and he tells me to join him, and once I do, I’m pretty sure this guy starts using modded stuff. He’s tearing through everything in less than 3 shots, and before you know it, we’re on OP 5. He then leaves and tells me to join him again, and this time he starts jumping to the end of the map to where the big-ass robot boss is, and each time he did it said on my screen that I’ve unlocked the next OP level, and before I know it, I reached OP8. I’m not happy with this guy two shot killing his way through, but I only started to notice this guy was using modded weapons late into our runs, since he didn’t die once. Now, with that said, I have some questions:

  1. This guy got me to OP 2 to 5 without me having to go back to the menu and raising the OP level manually. We did it by just staying in the game the whole time and he just rampaged through all of it. How is that possible? And is it going to screw up my save or something? Everything seems normal. I can pick up OP8 weapons, my deathtrap is level 80, etc, but just want to make sure this guy didn’t screw my save over.

  2. I read that if someone hosts and let’s say they’re OP7, and I’m barely OP2, his OP level will go up, but mine won’t. I’m assuming this guy was at OP8, so how did I manage to get the level up?

  3. Is OP8 the highest level you can be in the game, and are they the highest level weapons available in the game? Or is there something higher?

  4. How does the game expect you to kill these guys if they’re 8 levels above you (level 40)? That means a crapload of reduced damage. I found a pearl OP8 Butcher while I was in the arena, and that thing barely did any damage to anything, despite it being 200k damage.

  5. If I reset UVHM, will it also reset my OP levels? Would I have to go through all of them again to get it again? Or can I reset it without OP8 being reset?

You can set your op levels to any level you want without loosing them.

My guess is he was playing an OP8 Gunzerker with all OP8 Gear, hence the Rocket jumping to the end of the Map to beat the Binary Boss. FYI, modded weapons are not required to not die. I have gone through most DP levels without dying. None of my weapons are modded. You just have to have good weapons, a good build, a good understanding of your character and a good understanding of DP. But yeah, the guy who helped you was probably doing something that was not legitimate (see 1 and 2 below)

As for your questions:

  1. He was probably using a modded lobby. There is no way you could legitimately go from OP2 to OP5 in one DP run.

  2. See answer to 1 above.

  3. OP8 is the highest possible level.

  4. If you are lvl 72, then an OP8 enemy would be lvl 80. Did the OP8 Butcher have an element? My guess is ‘No’. Also, did it have a Practicable prefix? Again, my guess is ‘No’.

  5. Resetting UVHM will not reset your OP levels.

Very informative reply. Thank you. I started realizing this guy was doing something fishy when his infinity shot out rockets. So since he basically got me to OP8 in a non legit fashion (im assuming he did do a modded lobby since he told me that he wanted to host), will it affect anything negatively? Or will it be just as if I got to OP8 the legit way?

As for the shotgun, it had no elemental effect, but it did have red text. Don’t know if that’s what you mean by prefix. I’m just going to be spending my keys that I’ve been saving up all this time and hope I get a weapon that does more than just small amounts of damage at a time from that box in sanctuary.

But yeah, I’ll probably never step online again. While he helped me greatly, I am not fond of him doing it in a non-legit way.

Since the Infinity cannot possibly shoot Rockets, he was definitely a modder and using a modded lobby. That explains both his Infinity and your jump from OP2 straight to OP5. I wouldn’t worry about any negative effects.

By prefix I meant the type of Butcher (Example: Practicable Butcher). The Butcher is the one Hyperion Shotgun hurt the most by not having a Practicable prefix. If it has a Practicable prefix, the damage will be NNNx5 (Example: 200,000x5 = 1,000,000). Without the Practicable prefix, the damage will be NNNx3 (Example: 200,000x3 = 600,000). Not having an element only hurts it even more. Well, congratulations on getting to OP8!

Yeah I’ll try not to worry about it too much. I would have been able to tell if he screwed something up by doing that, but I guess not. Thanks for the replies. I feel bitter sweet about this, but thanks for the congrats (even though I hid behind my deathtrap the entire time).

Now that you at least know the layout you can try another character- or just go back to OP0, use OP0 gear and work your way back to OP8 yourself… :sunglasses:
