What skills to target while leveling up

Starting from scratch, and up to level 50, what skills need to be aimed for and in what order for a good melee Zero? And what skills to avoid altogether.
A Siren example would be…2 points into Sweet Release, then get to Ruin, then Converge, then Res.

I recommend consulting the pinned topic The Community Zer0 Guide - All You Ever Wanted to Know at the top of this section. Of particular note are: DDD -Zer0’s Skills for You!, Assassin Master Build List, and T0p Gear f0r Zer0 . The first two should at least offer some guidance in playing a melee focused Zer0.
