Returning to Borderlands 1

Started playing Borderlands 1 again recently and I must say its been a blast playing this game again, especially when Action Skills are actually used for more than just activating anointed weapon buffs, Legendaries were actually rare to find, and wasn’t brain dead easy. The atmosphere is amazing, I really like the mad max type vibe you get while playing it and the music definitely adds to that, it makes it feel like a completely different compared to the other games in the series. Playing a Blast Master Brick has been so much fun, getting a good explosive shotgun killing and getting massive fire rate and damage boost is just a fun gameplay loop. The scaling is just right so the game doesn’t feel unbalanced. Clearing certain maps proved difficult earlier on and the game really wanted you looking for the next best gun if you didn’t want to struggle hard. How many ya’ll have returned to playing the older games?

I keep finding myself returning to play borderlands 2 all the time, just seem to prefer it out of all of them, don’t get me wrong 3 is good but 2 has some amazing dlc love keeping killing the snowman boss haha.

Never stopped

I alternate between BL1 and 2, each has their specific charms, love 'em both.

BL3? Meh. I’ve played through about 20 times, did a complete 1Life run, and now launch it maybe once a month.
It’s just, well, too easy.

So sticking with 1 and 2.

Yeah, for me Borderlands 1 still has the best atmosphere and vibe in the series, especially brilliant Knoxx Armory DLC. It always feels so warming returning to it.

Also I’ve recently found out about cut grenade launcher weapon type (which is still in-game and can be obtained with save editing) which is extremely fun to play and definitely adds a refreshing spin to it, so i’m planning to complete it once again haha

I restarted Borderlands 2, the older version when it was level 72 followed by
op levels when you completed Raid on Digistruct Park. It is fun, and I can see why it was patched. I am at OP2 and trying for 3. The differences between that and newer versions are quite noticeable. I have considered starting
a continuing game from B1 to B2 to PS to B3 as a team game but yet to happen.

Grenade launcher? Can I see?

Sure, here’s a video demonstration of it (not mine) and there’s a save file for grenade launchers (not sure if it contains entire set of them though) in the description

One note about save files though the weapons don’t use correct corresponding ItemGrade_GrenadeLauncher, which in reality doesn’t affect anything but the level number (stats don’t change), so if you prefer full authenticity I’d recommend you to change it to the correct value

example of incorrect item grade:

Heh. That’s cool. So they’re just launchers basically. We wound up with the Carnage :poop::100:

Yeah, I’ve been playing a lot of BL1 lately (original version, not the enhanced*). Partially because there are still some pearls I have yet to get my hands on, but also because I just love the feel and vibe of the game. There’s more of this feeling you’re on an adventure and it’s you against this lonely desolate waste of a planet. It’s a bit grittier and the humor is more subdued than later installments (well, at least until you get to the DLCs which start to introduce more of that characteristic absurd BL humor that became more prevalent in BL2/TPS/BL3).

*I’d play the enhanced more because I really like some of the QoL changes, but I don’t like the new inventory UI at all (I much prefer the original one, even if it does look like something from Linux circa 1997) and the memory leak problem (playing on PC) really sucks. I know there’s kind of a workaround for that by deleting certain cutscene files and whatnot, but I don’t wanna take a hacksaw to my game.

Yes, thank you. The UI in BL1 was never improved upon , other than the item examine and trash/favorite. I’ve ranted about this before. You want a repeater ? Equip any repeater , compare and select whichever one you want …boom. I keep certain high rarity weapons in my pack solely for this function whether I use them much or not. I don’t really know how the “enhanced” version works but if it’s anything like 2/tps then it’s trash :-1:

I want to play it more, but I’m such an end game attick, that the gauranteed legendary drops they added to Craw’s loot pool, keeps me from coming back. I hate all those new weapons and it feels like they take the spot of rare legendaries or even Pearls for that matter. Back to the original.

Yeah I feel the same. I don’t know if anyone’s done the science to see if this is truly what’s happening or not, but when I see multiple copies of those new guns dropping from Craw in one go, combined with that feeling they’re bumping more desirable drops away, keeps me from coming back too. Especially since those guns are fixed parts and once you’ve got one, there’s no point in seeking more. And the fact that they’re broken with the various ammo regen COMs and whatnot. I could go on heh.

Huh. Might have to see if I can manually export my current from Enhanced to OEM, especially since when I next load up (some time in 2024 I expect), she’ll be hitting Knoxx.

I just did that and backported my Eridian weapons only Lilith from the remaster to the original game with a save editor. Except for the contents of the bank I could transfer everything.

i had intended to do a test on this but never got around to it. I think they just added another drop pool - from my limited understanding of how the drop system works, that would be the easiest way to do it, and they certainly didn’t put too much work into the remaster.

I loved it at first but could never get the 4-player slider working…deal breaker for me!

Yep, same here. About 2-3 new gearbox legendaries drop from Craw each time. As you can get the items easily from the Vault loot chests, Craw should not drop these at all. They really screw up the end game on BL1 GOTY enhanced, really a shame. I need pearlescent items as well as the different Knoxx specific class mods (e.g. Spectre, Ogre etc.) instead of the pretty much useless gearbox items. Where is my Bessie?

I think we’re all still looking for that LV 68, barrel 4, heavy accessory DVL590 ZZ Fearsome Bessie.

I don’t believe anyone has ever recorded finding one out of the millions of craw kills and armory runs accumulated by this community over the years.

About the gearbox legendaries, I don’t believe they take up any loot slots, I think that they are just extra. Though the pearls do seem rarer on GOTY…
That said, it is a shame the gbx guns are level locked and part locked.

Also the inventory UI in borderlands GOTY is hot polished garbage. Why do I need to be able to compare a rocket launcher to a shield, at the expense of automatically bringing me to my other rocket launchers?
Pearls in BL1 acted as book marks. Wanted to equip an obscure vladoff sniper? Press X on the Bessie.

Exactly what is max damage on a Bessie like 1900 something? My best was just under 1600…

There’s a perfect one in the finds thread. 1913 damage.

I believe just over 1900 damage for the Bessie I described above. The only sniper over 2000 damage is whiting’s elephant gun.
