Hopping back in

Sup,

I started playing again, trying to rebuild my bank and been doing the new Ava quests and any side quests I haven’t done this play thru.
Been using clone and drone build, full blue and orange with a sntl cryo lob, hellwalker, maggie, soul render with a shield with “action skill start activate shield break” effect that buffs me for 15 seconds.
Don’t remember what shield this is, or what artifact I’m using. Was running a seeing dead as well, +36 AS dmg.
I was reading around though and I guess blue/purple is the way to go? Thinking I’ll try a blue and purple build tonight, and also try to get a spy classmod.
What are some good blue/purple skill tree shields and artifacts? I feel like I got a nice shield, it was from the Ava podcast mission I think, but if there’s something better.
Oh, I got a re-volter from Sumo it’s called, with an action skill start annoint that triggers shield break effect.
If there’s any better shields for Zane going in a blue/purple, throw it at me.
Infact, any gear thats good for blue/purple. Thanks!

edit
This is what I’m thinking

So I’m still trying to work out the kinks, I put 5/5 in commitment but stopped there in the purple tree, I absolutely HATE using the mantis cannon lol.

So clone and drone with some purple and I think it’s going alright, does anyone have an optimal orange/blue/purple tree they can share?

What classmod?

If seeing dead… Put points in all killskils

Also, ducttape mod makes you immune to splash damage (your own) now so you won’t kill yourself every time a grenade pops out in your face

This also works for the OPQ :joy:

Oh and a clairvoyance (masher) is also z great gun on Zane

Using a seein’ dead as well, not sure there’s any other com for clone/drone.
Running hellwalker, sandhawk, hunting for better soulrender and lightshow. Masher though? I’ll be on the lookout!

All depends what difficulty you are playing and what your playstyle is bud.

Mantis cannon has improved zanes damage potential loads, plus has improved clones damage if using splash damage on action skill end annointment as it improves xlones damage if you are holding that weapon and clone has a splash damage weapon.

Have 4 zanes now and they all use blue tree so thats “mandatory” i would say.

My main zane is clone and mantis. Orange and blue tree full and the rest of the points in purple.

For general mobbing i let clone use whatever weapon i feel like but for bossing its a sandhawk for clone and i hold a splash ase weapon.

A neat trick i use as well is using the revolter shield (not with action skill start annointment) and position clone so his shield gets depleted. Clone also gets the extra shock damage if it gets depleted. Just keep an eye on its health and use swap to bump it up if needed.

Just lookin to clear EVERYTHING on true takedown MH11

A few things I’d change:

1: Move those 5 points from The Art of War over to Domino Effect. The Art of War wouldn’t be a good skill on any character but on Zane it’s even worse.

2: Take 3-4 points out of Salvation. You don’t need anywhere near that much lifesteal to become borderline unkillable.

3: I’d also take the points out of Synchronicity, especially if you are going to be running MNTIS that little bit of gun damage is not gonna be worth your points.

4: Try to get 1 point into Duct Tape Mod (the previous 5 points in red can go into either Praemmunitus or Borrowed Time, they are both arguably better than Synchronicity) because it makes you immune to all of your own splash.

5: If you are going to be running SNTL, throw 1 point into Drone Delivery. There’s basically no reason not to.

6: You can probably free up some points from Playin’ Dirty because it has diminishing returns on higher ranks.

I can recommend you a slightly more optimized skillbuild tomorrow but it’s getting quite late where I’m at so I’ll leave it at that for now.

Edit: So, this is roughly what I would do for Blue/Purple: Skill Calculator • Zane • BL3 | Lootlemon

You can still do some shifting around if you feel like it, it somewhat depends on what kind of weapons you want to use. For instance, Cold Bore is quite useful for launchers and other very high damage weapons but it isn’t all that useful for SMGs and AR’s. You could move some points into Donnybrook if you want a little extra survivability and if you are going for a shotgun/maggie/skullmasher build, moving points into De Ja Vu might be worth it.

Thanks! I’ll try out this build as it wasn’t really performing how I wanted to with my setup. Do you have a clone/drone with some purple tree build recommendation?

I do .

This is what I’m currently using on my Zane. There’s some things you can shift around in the red tree (you could for instance move some points from Trick of the Light to Like a Ghost) but I think this is pretty much what is gonna work best for an old school Clone & Drone. I take De Ja Vu here for the purple tree as Man of Focus is kind of useless on Clone&Drone and you really have all the healing you’ll ever need with Donnybrook (which you want for Clone damage and survivability) and Salvation and Headsman’s Hand is gonna amount to more damage than Commitment with Fugitive just being a neat bonus that works well with Violent Momentum.

When it comes to the AS augments, you can really do whatever you feel like, I just included the ones I personally like using.

Thanks! So commitment isn’t too worth it huh? Heck that was the only skill in the purple tree that I wanted, but if it’s less effective then…
I guess it was super OP when I wasn’t playing but now it’s not that great after the nerfs?

It’s still not completely horrible, but since it got nerfed to a stack limit of only 2 it isn’t anywhere near as strong.

The thing is, it provides 2 bonuses which are both kind of mediocre on Zane, especially Clone & Drone Zane.

The first is gun damage. The combination of Violent Momentum with Zane’s movement speed skills and his kill skill effect skills (strangely enough, VM counts as a kill skill and as such is buffed by things like Death Follows Close) essentially means that Zane has easy access to several hundred of percent worth of gun damage just by moving around whilst shooting which means that things like Commitment, Synchronicity, The Art of War and gun damage boosts on artifacts, class mods and anoints really don’t have a very significant impact on the actual amount of damage you deal, because it’s all additive. You can kind of get a significant amount of gun damage out of Commitment, but you’ll have to run a Spy Class Mod to get extra points for that. Zane benefits considerably more from crit damage, elemental damage, splash damage, action skill damage or weapon type specific damage increases (such as SMG damage and the likes on artifacts and class mods) than he does from gun damage.

The second effect is cooldown. Getting a lot of bonus cooldown speed can be kind of neat if you are running a MNTIS based build, but specifically Clone&Drone is all about keeping your action skills up so they don’t go on cooldown often in the first place.

So yeah, Commitment used to be 100% broken for a few months after DLC5 came out, but they nerfed it from one of the strongest skills in the game to be fairly mediocre.

One of its main issues really stems from the fact it’s on Zane, a character who already has insane amounts of gun damage and action skill uptime. It would be a much better skill if it was on any of the other Vault Hunters.

Really wish you could turn at normal speeds while sprinting, or if activating an actionskill made you move as fast as if you were sprinting. Probably won’t be a big deal once I play around with it more but sometimes I feel like I lose a stupid amount of DPS by getting stuck on something, enemies and the map alike.

i could talk very long but i will be brief what @jmthsauer said is true but it is only partially true

the short answer is if you are filling up purple tree there is no reason to not take commitment anyway. gun damage provided by VM is overrated and is not always accessible you still want to gather other forms of damage boosts also, any multiplicative boost grows from you gun damage (check out zane’s damage formula) if you want to enjoy some quality ads shooting not running and sliding around like crazy you still want to pick up commitment, however points in sychronicity are total waste

also doing cone drone without double barrel in endgame setting makes literally no sense

Of course. But if you are gonna do Clone and Drone you’ll need Double Barrel and you’ll want Death Follows close which leaves you with 11 points to spare for purple. 5 points go into the first tier, 1 goes into fugitive which leaves you with 5 points and at that point, Headsman’s Hand is gonna be considerably more valuable to you than Commitment.

Wait wait wait wait.
Synchronicity is bad?
This is news to me.
I guess I should read how Zanes dmg is calculated.
See, this is why I wish skills in this game, y’know, worked how they seem like they would.

EDIT

yo I just got a free radical and it multiplied my dps by 5000% what is this gun lmao

synchronicity works as advertised and is good you just do not need it and it is better spent somewhere else

for example if you are into abusing cold bore is insanely strong like ridiculously strong, initial skill distribution you have posted on the fist post is super unoptimized and can be improved depending on your GR and gear knowledge

well what he posted certainly does not look like clone drone build :d

I think you might have misread the original post. What he posted was meant to be a MNTIS/SNTL build and he was asking for feedback on that and then he also asked for a Clone & Drone Build.

Yeah sorry I’m using a clone and drone after getting fed up with the cannon. It just feels so weird to use.

Been using a cryo MIRV hex but I also have a rad one, both with 25% bonus annoint on throw.
You guys think cryo > rad?
Also, not sure what shield/artifact to use.
Been using the re-volter like I said, but with action skills up most of the time I might be able to use something better.
Artifact, I don’t even know what I’m using now. Most I find add bonuses to corrosive dmg or melee, nothing of note as of yet.

So, I guess my questions are:
cryo hex > rad hex? (mirv, 25% on throw)
It’s piss > mirv hex?
What arty?
