Let's buff Re-Volter and call it a day

I mean it already gives you +200% Shock dmg and +50% fire rate. Chuck in the barrier from Super Soldier or Stop-Gap and lets all use the same shield. Why bother with variety when we can all just use this instead. We’ll all have more time to ponder choices in the Diamond Room if we don’t even have to look at the shield selection anymore.

The bigger issues is that majority of shields just plain old suck donkey butt.

ReVolter. Old God. Stinger. Frozen Heart. Super Soldier.

That’s about it for good shields, and 2 of these are only good if you build around them.

Old God ceased to matter with the introduction of the Re-Volter, Super Soldier and the Infernal Wish

No it didnt. When built around the old god is straight killer.

Infernal wish is kinda buggy and not great for characters without shield restore or shield charge augments, super soldier and Re-volter are good for ASS builds but not much else so depending on your action skill they’re not very useful. Old god provides constant damage boost and works extremely well on moze still

What is there to build “around” exactly in a shield with a straight passive bonus ?

I feel it’s still a very good option for Moze, I don’t really like abusing Phalanx+SS or being costantly ignited with the Infernal Wish if I’m using fast firing weapons

There’s the Front Loader , which allows urad to be used with the Pearl and the Plus Ultra for max health Iron Bear builds too, Madcap for coolness and swag factor idk, I really like to see 300k+ shield on purple+orange trapper Fl4k and I’ve seen triple Amp Madcaps doing wonders on Zane, the Red Suit and Transformer which both leads to pretty silly elemental immunity, Void Rift and Ember’s Blaze which are somewhat overlooked and both have cool unique traits to play around with

While I think @RobCheap provides some good examples of alternatives I basically agree with the premise of this thread. On my roster of Bl3 characters a large portion of them are accepting a huge nerf by not just equipping an ASS Re-volter. I remember when the Band of Sitorak was considered a decent offensive shield. I don’t feel like I have to use the new stuff but it’s hard to ignore the massive powercreep. And yet again we just see more focus on “activate action skill for huge damage buff” which to me is a regrettable focus in BL3’s meta.

Guess that’s why I don’t play with meta builds lol

I have a 3 shot fade away Ice FL4K built around a cryo old god and its stupid good. I use a dastardly clarvoyiance masher with cryo next 2 mags. All the weapons i use are cryo next 2 mags. Also the mitosis hex with rad next 2 mags and he just doesnt care about nothing. Everything is ice cubes. You wouldnt think that 20% is a lot but oh my you would be wrong.

No one has mentioned the Big Boom Blaster, which is an excellent shield and if you can get a double-amp roll BBB or a Marksman’s BBB (Power Charge and Amp), the BBB is really, really good. One of the best shields for a RL build on Fl4k and Moze.

There are tons of good and usable shields in the game. Super Soldier. Plus Ultra. Transformer. Big Boom Blaster. Re-Volter. Old God. Those are just a few of the more versatile ones.

Among the many issues the game has, IMO, lack of good shields is not one of them. Shield options are just as good/diverse (or perhaps moreso) in BL3 than they were in BL2.

Disgusting powercreep indeed. Hard to not notice. I dug into other shields just to get away from those abominations

It’s true. I never use it because i never got a god version of it ( it seems that this shield specifically eludes me with dedication, don’t know why, I just get a lot more Rectifiers than BBBs) but I have sweetest memories of Axton and BBB in bl2, so will always love it for old times sake.

I meant mitosis hunter seeker. Sorry.

If I’m going to do a new fl4k for non urad, I’ll do your build for sure

I actually play melee Amara with Ward, 300/90 Facepunch, Cryo Stone White Elephant, and Driver.

So yea, there are other options but you have to build around them. All the shields I listed you can just put on and it works almost every time, with or without the shield effect anoint.

Look for jakobs passives on that stakbot. You might say well why am i using elements next 2 mags if it resets the stackbot huh? The reason is you are so O.P with it that the classmod becomes irrelevant to an extent. The pearl with mag size and fire rate is real nice. I have stackbot with assault rifle damage, jakobs crit and weapon damage. The clarvoyiance after that 10 secs wear off on the elements from the shield and grenade mods can power through any content by itself. I keep a redundant reflux with consecutive hits just for the maliwan takedown. With that said i can run the whole thing clairvoyance only. But i do keep a corrosive backburner with consec hits for wotan. I would just keep a backburner in difderent elemants for bossing although besides takedowns bosses you can easily kill any other bosses with that clairvoyance.

I don’t think OP is questioning the number of useable shields in the game, but rather that the new shields in DLC6 are perhaps a little too powerful.

Yes, of course other shields are useable - there were lots of great options for shields prior to DLC6. But its just that the new shields are just way too powerful to be ignored. On Fl4k, Amara and Zane, you are pretty much shooting yourself on the foot if not using the Revolter or Super Soldier. Why is it the Sitorak gives you 20% gun damage on shield break, but the Revolter gives 200% shock damage and +50% FR? Is there any situation where it would be more desirable to use the Sitorak? Or a Stop Gap vs Super Soldier. And this powercreep goes for any shield - are the perks given by xxx shield enough to justify losing +200% shock damage? And especially for Amara and Zane, the answer is almost always gonna be no.

Well, I guess it’s too late to mention and gush about the Faulty Star, Beskar, Snowshoe, Torch, and Brawler Ward then.

@darreltan2004 That’s correct, but also not necessarily what I was responding to. The OP implied that only the new shields were usable:

and I just don’t think that is correct at all. It is very true that these new shields are very OP, but that doesn’t mean that the old shields were bad or that they can no longer be used effectively.

I haven’t even seen the Infernal Wish mentioned anywhere above either - that thing is literally insane on a Fade Away build.

Pretty much this, it’s not that hard for the new shields to stand out that much when many of the old ones are just overly situational.

Maybe not for the other 3 thanks to the ASS anointment but for certain Moze builds there are reasons to use the Stop Gap over the Super Soldier.
