Skulls, skulls everywhere! Better watch out for Ghozte Moze

I’ve been toying with the idea of a themed build recently and I finally tried it out. Not only did it work, but I enjoyed it so much I thought I would share it in case anyone else wants to join in the fun.

Say hello to Ghozte Moze.

With the Boogeyman added through Arms Race and the recent buff to the Soulrender, we now have quite a few guns which send skulls flying round the battlefield. They all inflict splash damage too, so Moze is in her element. Use this build well and you’ll have a mixture of red, green and purple ones blazing round the battlefield at any given time.

One proviso. This build uses some terror gear (yes, I know it’s January) so you may need to do some trading if you want everything perfectly set up. Thankfully, half the gear is available throughout the rest of the year so you won’t have too much trading to do.

Without much further ado, let’s get into the skills.

Nothing huge to say here, other than the fact that terror ammo regen + Redistribution + Forge allows us to spec out of mag size skills and take Click, Click instead which serves nicely on all three guns we’ll be taking later. The ammo regen skills are mostly there to make sure we never run out of ammo and have nice, long magazines but we do still get use out of this skill.

One thing which really makes the build flash is the number of aspects of the build which multiply against each other so damage is rarely ever lacking. At all times, we’ll have strong radiation, splash damage proccing fire damage which is multiplied by Stoke the Embers and very high gun damage. It’s also never long before we can jump into Iron Bear either as an escape from combat or an additional source of damage.

Ghostly guns
The four guns we’re using all link up with our theme.

  1. Redundant Facepuncher. Anointment: Melee has a 25% chance to inflict Terror status.
This one is there for utility. A shot or two is all you need to get poor Moze totally terrified, which is useful for our next gun.

  2. Fearmonger. Anointment: While under 50% health, deal 150% bonus radiation damage.
I picked an incendiary one of these up during the Bloody Harvest event last year, but really all you want is a Urad one and for your elements to be spread across your three guns. Thanks to its buff, this one is extremely powerful. You can walk into a room, get terrified, fire once at each enemy and wait for the mines to go off. Boom! Everybody gone.

  3. Soulrender. Anointment: While under 50% health, deal 150% bonus radiation damage.
Since this came out, this has been one of my favourite guns and the recent buff only made it better. It handles nicely with the added effect of peppering the battlefield with homing, explosive purple skills (which also home in on crit spots for good measure). Easy to farm from Tom and Xam.

  4. Boogeyman. Anointment: While under 50% health, deal 150% bonus radiation damage.
A fantastic sniper. After any kill, it has a 10% chance to spawn a red skull which, again, homes in on enemies and does heavy splash damage. So long as you don’t kill the enemy it is going after, you can normally depend on a string of ghostly kills working its way through the enemy.

Ghastly gear

  1. Front Loader. Anointment: While Terrified, gain ammo regeneration. The more Terror you have, the higher the bonus.
With this shield, you’ll always have your 150% radiation going and you’ll always have enough ammo for your guns (especially nice on that Boogeyman since it blasts through the stuff so fast).

  2. Vindicator Ghast Call. Cannot come anointed.
Some people may prefer to go with the CMT, but to me this completes the look. Plus, with 150% radiation, splash damage, additional skulls spawning when terrified, Fire in the Skag Den, Stoke the Embers and the October buff, this is a grenade which can actually kill things without too much difficulty. Who would’ve thought?

  3. Bloodletter.
The Blast Master could go in this slot, but I prefer the survivability and if you can get 5 points in Phalanx Doctrine then you’re onto something really nice. Rolls to look for: splash damage, weapon damage, crit damage, fire rate, mag size.

  4. Pearl of Ineffable Knowledge.
The reason we took the Front Loader. This relic gives you a stack of gun damage extremely easily and is relatively easy to acquire just by going through DLC2. Stats to look for: mag size, fire rate.

Trick or treat
One of the fun things we can do to tie the theme together is create the right look. With emotes, character skins, weapon skins, weapon trinkets and echo skins from across the past two Bloody Harvests and throughout DLC2, there’s plenty of scope for kitting out Moze and Bear to match the aesthetic.

And there we have it, Ghozte Moze! Don’t forget to like, follow and obey… Wait, what am I saying?

The soulrender is so dumb on moze. When the skulls get a good chain and synchronizes with Short Fuse proc things go REALLY crazy. It’s so obscenely strong I hardly noticed the difference between a fire 125% rad after ib, a Cryo consec hit and a Radiation with a ib anointment at least for normal enemies

Ps and it one of the coolest gun to look at to me. Only thing is, it NEEDS automatic fire mode to work

I picked up a 300/90 incendiary one on my other Moze and it was killing everything before the buff. Now it’s a top tier weapon - and with its special effect I consider it to be one of the absolute coolest weapons in the game. Plus, the accuracy / handling / fire rate of those Dahl assault rifles make it feel really nice.

Yeah cause you can either aim for projectile kills ( which can proc SF too) or for a blind killer skulls slaughter
And it’s one of the fastest farms in the game. This gun needs to see more love.

After playing a while with this build, I’m thinking of changing some stuff around with this build:

  • The Ghast Call didn’t seem to proc Vampyr, but even still survivability wasn’t a problem. So swap the Bloodletter for Mindsweeper (I have an excellent one with 5 points in TCP). Then take the 9 points from Vampyr and TCP and use them to top up Fire in the Skag Den / Grizzled / Pull the Holy Pin / Means of Destruction / Stainless Steel Bear. Put a point in To the Last as the Ghast Call does do decent damage and can help get you up if you ever go down. Blast Master would be an option too, but I’ve used it more in the past.
  • Move the single point from The Iron Bank to Rushin’ Offensive for survivability. There’s so much ammo regeneration we wouldn’t feel the 7% mag size and end up spending more time in Click, Click.
  • After all this, consider putting a point in Big Surplus to take that bit more offense when IB is on cooldown. With Mayhem scaling, each point in that skill packs a punch.

Need to test it all and see how it goes. Overall, however, the build feels really good and I look forward to seeing how it changes over time.

I tried this build and works fantastic. I use skullmasher instead of boogyman I don’t have. Anyway it is skull.

Yeah, I’m still enjoying it. I’ve moved over to a version using the Minesweeper and I’m not sure which is better. With the Minesweeper version I was able to beat the Maliwan Takedown, but the problem is defense. She’s something of a glass cannon. So I may try the Bloodletter version and see if she’s a little tougher with that. It all just synchronises so nicely.

Are you on PlayStation? I could send you a Boogeyman to use. If not, probably trade for one.

The front loader and the loss of healt gate makes this particular playstile kinda a glass cannon on every class. You COULD ( not saying it would be necessarily better tho) try rearrange the build around consecutive hits with the same spec if you don’t want anything that needs action skill end to activate and with another terror shield, which I want to say its a Old God for merely dmg purposes. Other thing you might consider is to bump the red tree and go with purple as the fire rate gun dmg and bonus fire dmg are good with all the weps you listed. Mindsweeper and Blast aster are what I prefer in general, I feel like the bloodletter doesn’t make up for those even with all the survival ability it provides, and mostly, any severe dmg instance ( as such, any rocket shoot, badass psycho melee etc) is going to down you anyway when in urad healt range

Some good points. You’re right, it’s a little glass cannon-y but since adjusting the build to include a Minesweeper COM I’ve been melting the game. You touch into FFYL from time to time, but it’s over so fast you really have nothing to fear. The build made it through the True Maliwan Takedown and the Guardian Takedown on the first try. As for CH vs. Urad, I find Urad to be extremely powerful on Moze - those radiation explosions, powered up by Fire in the Skag Den and Torgue Cross Promotion, are something to behold. Then the top half of red vs. purple, I don’t see much in purple worth taking until you reach Fired Up. Meanwhile, Drowning in Brass provides a substantial boost, the Capacative Armature railguns are really nice and the small amount of damage reduction afforded by Security Bear/Armoured Infantry is welcome.

This setup is stomping the game right now:

unfortunately, I’m on Epic. thanks anyway. I would try trade forum

Man I swear I don’t see how using a blood letter increases survivability!!! My hat is off to y’all who do and make it work. I go down sssoooo much when I take away health gate!!! How do y’all make it work!!!???

Just keep shooting, and try to keep adds alive while bossing.

If you like this build, I’ve got an updated one I’m running called CubRender based on this with uRad, Revolter and Hunterseeker grenades.

Been updating this build with lv.72, DLC 5 and 6 gear and the purple tree and overall it got much, much more powerful (at least 3.159 times more powerful, just looking at the gear before getting to the skill tree). It also overcomes the biggest issue of its previous iteration — survivability. If I get the time, I may post my spec at some point, but I’m still tweaking it for now. I don’t have any of the anoints I want yet. Nevertheless, it was able to topple the Maliwan Takedown and Hemovorous without too much difficulty.

I’ve had a look at all the Terror builds for Moze on YouTube and there’s one by a fellow called Kody McHugh 8 months ago which comes close, but this has a few more damage multipliers which just tips it over that one IMO.

Might also post this in its own thread, but here it is for now. Best Moze build I ever made.

Ghozte Moze, lv72.
There was a lot to look at here. This is the first time in the game where we have been able to start thinking about how Terror gear mixes with purple trees, DLC5 and 6 gear, an anointment reroll machine and 70 skill points. I have effectively built up the build again completely from scratch and a lot has changed. As I mentioned before, the build is roughly 3 times more powerful and the glass cannon nature it had earlier is diminished. Not wanting to hype it up too much, but this may be the most powerful Moze build I have ever seen.

Let’s start with the gear
There’s a wide range of guns we can go for, so we’ll come to that later, but I thought it would be worth starting with 5 particular pieces of gear which synchronise in a particular way to bring out some spectacular damage. We’ll start with one thing which hasn’t changed.

  1. Redundant Facepuncher.
Anoint: Melee Attacks have a 25% chance to apply Terror to yourself.

I’m actually still using the one I had at lv.65 because this is all about applying Terror to yourself. Triggering Groundbreaker easily is a nice perk, but this is really here to apply 3 stacks of Terror with extreme ease. That takes us onto our shield and grenade.

  1. Infernal Wish.
Anoint: While Terrified, gain ammo regeneration. The more Terror you have, the higher the bonus.

Thank goodness we have the reroll machine, because farming this would be a literal Terror otherwise. For those not in the know, the Infernal Wish grants an additional projectile per shot while your shield is up. For Moze, who has ways of keeping up her shield indefinitely, this can effectively mean double damage all the time. Then there are a few guns which can take this even further, but we will come to that later. Nice to boosters on this if you can - not only do they regen your shield, but they can also be triggered by the DOT created by the shield itself.

The anoint, I considered the Terror Health Regen but that is calculated from your max health. Now when we have a standard shield of ~290k, receiving ~3,120 per second is not very impressive. The ammo regen, however, at full stacks gives 21% of your mag per second. That’s more than double what Moze can get by going all the way down the Bottomless Mags tree. Yeah. With this, we can take all green tree damage perks and ignore the rest.

Onto the grenade.

  1. Cloning Maddening Tracker.
Anoint: While Terrified, gain increased damage and fire rate. The more Terror you have, the higher the bonus.

The previous iteration of this build took advantage of the Vindicator Ghast Call. Unfortunately, this grenade can’t drop with anoints (and for some reason it didn’t seem to be proccing Vampyr either) so it’s back to the old faithful. The CMT, great for proccing Vampyr and Redistribution via Pull the Holy Pin. Usually, we wouldn’t see this as a source of damage, but in this build it can put in some work.

The main thing here is the anoint. The damage is in a category of its own, applying to all sources of damage and going up to 35% at 3 stacks, and the fire rate is a substantial 21%. Combined, our damage increases by 63.35% through this anointment alone. Very powerful. I think we have been sleeping on it as a community. The possibilities are endless…

Let’s just pause for a second. So far, 3 pieces of gear. Before picking up a gun or skill point, we’re getting over triple the damage along with more ammo regen than the entire green tree — all this just for shooting your Facepuncher once or twice. That’s before adding in Urad…

  1. Class mod: Bloodletter.

Not normally the most powerful class mod, but when we think about how it can keep up our Infernal Wish all the time, its synergy with Urad, its gets enough punch to blow the hair back on a wookie. If possible, look for points in Desperate Measures and Phalanx Doctrine. Decent rolls would be: weapon crit, splash, action skill cooldown, action skill damage and mag size. Someone sent me a perfect one the other day: 3 Desperate Measures, 2 Phalanx Doctrine, weapon crit, splash, action skill damage. Mwah! Perfection.

Final piece of gear before we get into the skill tree.

  1. Atom Balm Deathless.

Previously, we procced Urad through a Storm Front/Pearl set up. The Infernal Wish replaced our shield, however, so Deathless becomes the next best move. Atom Balm fits the amount of radiation in the build extremely nicely. Suddenly our Infernal Wish is twice as bulky and those radiation explosions really kick. Mine is lv.65 and has splash, radiation damage and mag size on it. Again, mwah!

I think that’s enough on gear for now. Let’s move onto…

The skill trees.
I’ve done a lot of tweaking here, so there’s piles of explanation to go through. I’ll take it one tree at a time.

This is a pretty standard spec and definitely Moze’s best tree.

  • You could easily move the Iron Bank points to Torgue Cross Promotion if you like. It depends on the weapons you want. We already have ~80% splash damage from our com and artifact so an extra 30% isn’t as good as it sounds, particularly when it comes with the added bonus of being able to kill you.
  • If you find you’re not getting enough from Vampyr, feel free to take a point or two from Specialist Bear.
  • Auto Bear is worth taking, a) for the damage and b) for the Guardian Takedown gimmicks I’ll mentioned in Dakka Bear below.
  • I believe Fire in the Skag Den is currently boosted by Iron Bear damage so having points in Specialist Bear, Stainless Steel Bear and Scorching RPMs all help.

  • Cloud of Lead. Best way to get down the tree. Not really necessary, but the little bit of damage is nice.
  • Dakka Bear. Beyond co-op antics, try jumping into the turret during the crystal stages / Anathema’s bubbles in the Guardian Takedown. You’ll see…
  • Stoke the Embers. One of Moze’s best skills. Grab it, grab it!
  • Redistribution and Rushin’ Offensive aren’t the best, but the add a nice little bit to our ammo regen and survivability. Put these points in Scrappy if you like.
  • Scorching RPMs. 3 stats which multiply with the rest our kit? Yes, please!
  • Specialist Bear. Awesome multiplier for Iron Bear / Cub’s damage. Love it.
  • The Iron Bank. Depending on what weapons you’re running, you may want to move these points to Torgue Cross Promotion. Less likelihood of having to reload or that bit more splash damage? Up to you.

  • Security Bear is a nice pickup whether you choose to go Iron Bear or Iron Cub (and the build is good with both). Iron Cub will arguably be better because a) it’s pretty awesome already, b) it’ll benefit from urad and our terror damage anoint, c) we’ll be getting all options for the railguns.
  • Armored Infantry is just to get us down to the tree.
  • Drowning in Brass, 6 points in Desperate Measures and 2 points in Phalanx Doctrine gives us a base line of +100% gun damage and sometimes way more. No need to take Scrappy, Click Click, Harmonious Havoc or any other gun damage skills.
  • Experimental Munitions. Not always the best, but nice when it’s boosted by urad and the Terror damage anoint.
  • I tried various combos and 3 points in Thin Red Line and 1 in Vladof Ingenuity give us the highest shield while getting us down the tree.

Not much to say here, other than the fact Big Surplus gives you massive damage whenever you’re on cooldown. Worth taking, but not worth going any further down the tree.

Finally we should talk about the…

GUNS :boom::fire::zap:

This spec is pretty open to different guns, but I do have some recommendations.

I mentioned we’re taking Urad on all our guns, right? Probably only 2 or 20 times. Well, we are. Urad on all the things.

Whichever guns we use should be a) splash weapons, b) low pellet count on account of the Infernal Wish (preferably one, but two is not that bad), c) best elements would be fire, cryo or corrosive. Shock or radiation aren’t really necessary. Urad goes very nicely on cryo weapons.

Then I’d have a few personal favourites, centred around how guns interact with the Infernal Wish:

  • Guns which are already good with Moze get better. Plaguebearer, Backburner, Free Radical, Beacon, Gargoyle, Major Kong, Trevonator, Plasma Coil, Yellowcake…
  • The Craps can occasionally shoot 5 pellets for the price of one. It will now shoot 10.
  • Soulrender gets double skulls.
  • Nukem becomes pretty tasty if you can handle the arc.
  • Atlas Replay goes bonkers.
  • Ember’s Purge will create pools really fast and those pools will be effected by splash bonuses, Stoke the Embers, Urad and the Terror damage anoint.
  • Since the Flipper has one pellet on the card, the total number of projectiles gets doubled. After a few shots, Moze starts shooting 18 pellets.
  • It might possible to make the Hive work with this set up. Just take corrosive, not radiation.
  • Haven’t tested it, but a Tiggs Boom might get double comets. I should check this…
  • If you wanted to try a COV version of this (especially since she now has a matching outfit), I would move the floating points from The Iron Bank / Torgue Cross Promotion to Matched Set and go with a variety of the Gargoyle, Zheitsev’s Eruption, Rebound, Globetrottr, Major Kong and Yellowcake. You’d still have plenty of splash damage and ammo regen and - 33% heat per shot for your effort.

If you want some crazy damage, shoot your Facepuncher to trigger the anoints, fire a few shots from a Plaguebearer, then switch to a urad Guardian Angel. Yeah… Your Plaguebearer will be doing 7 times the damage before the Guardian Angel gets stacked on top. Mr. Torgue would weep for joy.

And there we have it! Ghozte Moze 2.0.

Ok, maybe Mr. Torgue isn’t weeping for joy. I think he’s in love.

@EldeeFifty, this is what I’ve been talking about. Even with the urad nerf, this is over 2.5 times as powerful, with more survivability, and that’s before we even mention the extra skill points
