Strange - white with red text is normal?

That’s a reference to something Claptrap says when he gives you the Echo-3 communicator at the start of the game.
Echo-2’s were known to explode, so it’s now a grenade
You can stick it on your wall in your room, although it juts out sideways instead of face-on which is a bit odd.

It’s technically coded as a legendary in the game code. It’s a meme just like most of the uniques.

It’s one of two white-rarity weapons with red text (though the other is a tongue-in-cheek mission reward, so I think it’s coded this way on purpose). It is weird seeing it as an item of the day, since it turns the little light bulbs highlighting that panel in the machine white.
It’s an Easter Egg, reference to Samsung’s(?) phones.

I wonder if the writers considered ‘Do not take ECHO-2 on spaceship’ but rejected it as a bit too on the nose?

Funny fact, the echo 2 actually does bonus damage if you’re not looking at it when it explodes.

I was hoping you were right - I’ve done my own testing, and it always seemed like a brick to me.
I thought I had remembered someone testing it and seeing slightly higher damage when looking away. It wasn’t anything significant, but it was supposedly there. Now I can’t find that anywhere.
