ECHO-2 Mythbusting

There are quite a few rumors about the special effects of the ECHO-2 grenade, and I wanted to find out if they were true or not.

The attempted tests were:

  • Does the grenade damage of the ECHO-2 increase if you don’t look at the explosion?

  • Does aiming at the ECHO-2 grenade change its behaviour in some way (decreasing damage and/or radius, increasing fuse time etc.)?

Tl;dw: it doesn’t look like that at all. I hope that less people will now refrain from using it because of its (inexistent) impractical gimmick.

If you have any information (even discordant to this, of course) regarding the ECHO-2 and its special effects, feel free to post it here!

Welcome to hell - if it doesn’t carry someone through the True Maliwan Takedown at MM10, it’s “not viable”.

Seriously though, I appreciate this… testing like this was in my queue, but low in a long list. The non-explosive, non-impact trigger makes it rough to use… like I might take a rubberized version over a lobbed if it was available. I’ve found some with elements and anointments, and I really want to use it but… lobbed. :dukepuke:

If you have a niche, no matter how small, where this grenade shines, do tell.

I already did this kind of test however my conclusion was a bit different: it is impossible not to look at the grenade ( I thought the condition is do not look the grenade) except if you throw it indirectly via drone or revengenader which I have yet to do.

Did you get different results? I just happen to have an Echo-2 grenade in Zane’s pocket as I type this… gonna be tricky to get one of those grenades to actually hit something though.

edit - SNTNL can’t hit a thing with this grenade.

What I mean is the condition I heard of is do not look at the grenade which you cant fullfill if you throw it directly.
With drone and Loco Chantelle  it should be possible
I ll do the test right now

nope I was hopeful but this property does not seem to work even not looking at the grenade at all, I did long hide and seek party with Coco used drone and revengenader and it does the same damage every time. That s a letdown I was hoping the grenade would do insane damage if you fullfilled this riduculous condition

Yeah, for what appears to be a hard-coded lobbed delivery on top of a theoretical, ‘can’t look at grenade for more damage’ mechanic, I was hoping the return would be huge too. I mean, it’s not like the damage is negligible (I did kill a few Skags with it), but it’s not that fun.

This grenade is only an Easter Egg to the begining of the game and exploding phone bateries.
Doesn’t have any hidden gimmics.

Yeah, I’m familiar with similiar statements
In a game with ~400+ red text items, I just wish people would try and give a shot to as many as possible, not just the meta ones, if nothing else for the novelty.

Regarding the ECHO-2 in particular, I found the concept and the call-back to be genius, but yeah, there really isn’t a specific reason to use it unless you make a point to.

It recently came to my mind only because I got one on a low level character from the Mouthpiece story kill, and I gladly used it for a while.

Oh that’s unfortunate, but still, that was a warranted suspicion, so thank you very much for testing it out!
