So, I have been farming the wizards and mages in the Temple of Misworship area on the Lair of Infinite Agony map, so I can steal their magics (missiles, that is). However, after a few days of farming, I got more than enough Fireball and Lightning Bolt grenade mods to fill a 20th-level Archmage’s traveling spell book, as well as two Chain Lightning mods and a Fire Storm. But not even a single blue Magic Missile mod had dropped, let alone the purple x4 mod.
Is there a better place to farm for Magic Missiles? I recall that I used to sell a bunch of extra blue Magic Missile mods, but that was more than a year ago. Anyone care to hook a Flip up?
I think the only types of wizards that spawn in that room are the ones that drop the Fireball/Fire Storm and Lightning Bolt/Chain Lightning. I don’t remember the name, but you need a certain type of BA Wizard to drop the MM.
And while the Handsome Sorcerer can drop Magic Missles, he will only ever drop the blue MMx2 version. If you can live with that, then he’s your best option. Personally, I’ve only seen the MMx4 drop in the Magic Slaughter Dome. It’s not the only place it can drop, but the amount of BA Wizards in the BA round make it more likely.
It really is a pain in the ass to farm for one and really not worth it in my opinion. I’d be much more excited over getting a Chain Lightning to drop. Excellent find there.
Yeah, if that’s the room I’m thinking of, you’ll only get fire and shock grenade mods there.
My first x4 MM was from a BA from the altar in Dragon Keep, so that’s one option. But you have to get lucky and have the right kind of BA spawn, and then have him drop an x4 MM.
Or there’s the Magic Slaughter, as already mentioned, but that also takes luck.
I’ve never tried it, but I think I read that some people farm for the MM in that room in Lair that has a dice chest under a shield/barrier.
So I decided to bite the bullet and hit the Magic Slaughter in Murderlin’s Temple. I only had the Badass round available, but eh. Sure enough, I saw Astral Wizards and Ultimate Badass Wizards, and some other kind of wizard with a prestige class that I can’t recall. I did get several blue Magic Missiles to drop, but no purple one yet.
I’ll probably continue this in TVHM, so I can get a level 50 purple Magic Missile(x4). I use it mainly for slagging on my Assassin, and an equal-level MM would sometimes backfire and drop my own shields if I stand too close to a wall or enemy.
If I remember correctly the MM drops from the Badass Necromancer-type wizard. There is one in the begin of Dragon Keep, so you can kill him and save quit.
Necromancers (not just BA) can drop any of the blue “magic” grenade mods (Magic Missile, Lightning Bolt or Fireball), but it doesn’t seem like they drop the purple/legendary versions.
I’m not completely sure, but I don’t think I’ve ever seen that BA Wizard drop anything, ever. Seems to me that they left that wizard without drops like the Treants near the fast travel in the forest so it couldn’t be a super easy farm.
Again, not entirely positive, but if it drops anything I’ve never seen it in many, many kills. You’d think at least a blue would pop out once in a while?
I just paid a visit to Dragon Keep in TVHM. Around the 15th kill, the BA Necromancer dropped a Lightning Bolt.
FWIW, after that, I figured I’d try my luck at the altar while I was there. I got some blue mods, including a MM or two. I also got a Chain Lightning from one BA, then, a bit later, I got a double drop, with a Lightning Bolt and Chain Lightning from the same BA.
FWIW, I kept farming the altar in Dragon Keep and eventually got a level 50 purple MM. I think it took around 5 - 10 runs, which doesn’t sound that bad, but each run (feed everything that drops to the altar, and keep going until I run out of stuff) takes a while. Still, at higher levels, where Magic Slaughter could be a real pain, the altar would be a lot easier. Maybe not faster, but easier.
Along the way I also got at least a couple of Chain Lightnings, and a Fire Storm or two (maybe from the altar, or maybe from the BA fire mage on the stairs).
I also noticed something that I don’t remember noticing before – With at least one of the Chain Lightnings, and the purple MM, the BA also dropped a blue mod. It’s like they have separate loot pools for the blue mods and the purple/legendary mods.
