I’m trying to get a rough estimate of how big the grenades are in BL3, so I can 3D print them in resin. I have dainty little artist hands so they aren’t a good yardstick.
Also, if any modelers want to contribute, I’d be grateful if you could make the model loosely “snap together”, requiring just a little glue to assemble. Maybe just add cutouts so we can glue in LEGO plates or whatever to make it easy to assemble. I’d gladly make you a print as thanks.
[EDIT: Thanks peeps, I went with 150mm for this one. Of course Tediore will be a little shorter, Hyperion a little longer, etc. because of the different shrouds.]

Not quite sure but you can see them on the ground and how they compare to objects around them.
I’ll try that for this TORGUE grenade, I think at that size they’ll fill a person’s palm so they don’t feel too dinky. Also a good size for display, like 6-inch action figures.
Haha, I’ll try throwing some next to a soda can.
You could always look at them in photo mode as well.
It depends where you are looking at them. If you take the vending machine shelves as a reference then I’ve actually measured it up (assuming total overall height at 1800mm), here are the shelf measurements: https://www.therpf.com/forums/threads/marcus-vending-machine-from-borderlands-3-full-scale.305869/#lg=attachment1077276&slide=0
Your average grenade comes in at approx 160mm which is pretty much what GrzesPL suggested.

Thanks bub, the Hyperion and Atlas grenades will probably be around that size because of the extended shrouds/hoods.
I’m picturing MR TORGUE holding a grenade in his pan-sized paws and how they all must seem like a PEZ dispenser to him haha
Yeah i hear that!
Hey although I’m still many months away from finishing my vending machine replica, once it’s done ill be looking for full size grenade mods to place on shelves. Not sure if you’d be interested in making a few of them and selling them but let me know if you do. I’m talking later this year or perhaps even early next year - I’m not setting myself any deadlines for my project but I assume I will finish it at some point and will be on the hunt for these.
Would be cool, I’m almost ready to do test prints too, just have to find a way to easily assemble the bits. Ideally I would just add tabs and slots so the parts fit together, but the 3DSMAX boolean functions are buggy for that because of the polygon count.
If anyone can do this I’ll print you something as thanks!
Sweet dude, or TBH I’m more than happy to drill out inserts and assemble them myself etc. That’s not a problem. I’ll follow your posts man, or just let me know if you end up getting some done and I’ll gladly hook you up with some cash.
If I can’t get help, this is the print plan so we can figure it out ourselves.
Every color will be a separate hollow part. I added a small indent to the bottom and top sections just to show the center, might be useful for DIY solutions.
(Also, I have all the different grenade parts, I’m just using these as a test.)

Man that looks great. I’d probably almost just use resin to put it all together as I wouldn’t want to dissassemble it but have it as a completed product. How long did it take you to get that done in 3dMax? Looks like a lot of work!
I used the game’s low poly model as a base, it looks like a giant faceted buttplug.
Then I add in any details that are only painted on the texture, like panel lines, rivets, turbine section in the head, etc.
Then I have to “up-res” the whole model so it’s as smooth as it is now.
Then I have to figure out a way to 3D print it without leaving a ton of visible scars after removing the printing supports.
The warhead section is printing right now, about 3 hours to go.
Next will be the endcap and the warhead’s “skirt”

Dude you’re a machine, awesome level of detail.
I just checked the distance between the vending machine shelves (ignore the missing shelves, I’m currently working on the surrounds/lighting so the shelves are off) and even when the shelves lean in there is easily 120-130mm of clearance between the shelves. I’m guessing if the length is about 150-160mm it’ll be roughly 50mm wide? In that case there will be plenty of clearance between the shelves.
TBH I can remount the chain brackets and hang the shelves further apart but even this distance seems to be sufficient.
Attachments like the sparker or fins add to the overall width, but sounds like they’ll fit anyway.
Yup even with that fin I’d say that’ll be under 100mm at the widest point, and since it can be turned i can mount it to have lower profile too. Cant wait to see the finished item man.
Turned out better than expected, a few minutes of cleaning up the supports and the only sign of them left is a few tiny pock marks.
1 hour until the skirt and endcap are done.
