Is Zane’s barrier working properly now?

Hey guys. I know there have been some issues with Zane’s barrier lately, and I am hoping with today’s patch that it’s back in proper order. Does anyone have any information about this? It’s really unpleasant, as I have to change my build to compensate when it was performing perfectly before.

Nothing was mentioned in the patch notes about Zane’s Barrier. However, when they did announce a few patches ago that they fixed the problem where certain enemies would penetrate the Barrier, I ended up getting downed multiple times by a badass enemy with a rocket launcher and it went right through the Barrier and there was nothing I could do. The enemy is one of the bandits located in the Handsome Jackpot DLC; don’t remember the exact name tho… Since that, I moved to using SNTNL/Digi-Clone combo and have been really enjoying it so far…

Happening all the time in slaughter shaft now. Can’t pinpoint exactly why some stuff goes through and some doesn’t. Modifiers, enemy type, weapons don’t seem to be consistent.

Something in the last hotfix seemed to have broken the barrier more. The Maliwan melee troopers with the shield (as in sword & board shield, not just the blue bar) were destroying me in the Takedown. As in, they were health-gating me (if that’s the correct usage). Basically, bypassed barrier (I use Deterrence), dropped my shield, and left me with a fraction of my health. And other stuff was wrecking me more than usual, whether projectiles, explosions, or melee damage.

Then the game kept crashing and there was a forced update. After that things seemed better. I was able to do the true Takedown (while carrying an alt in split-screen, though that probably doesn’t matter), without a single FFYL moment. The melee guys (and dogs) still hit me, but the damage was back to the normal amount I was used to (25-50% shield down per hit).

So if you haven’t played since Saturday evening (um, PT 6-ish PM), then you might see some improvements if you do the update. Not sure if it’s automatically applied now.

Badass Zealots, those new Dirigible floating sac from DLC 2, and a few other things still bypass or overcome the barrier. But it’s not as bad as it was in those few days since the last official hot fix.

Thanks for the update. My Zane is at around Level 40, and I’ve run with the Digi-Clone and Drone the whole time, but always thought I might switch to Barrier Shield once I got to End Game levels if need be. But now I’ll just keep on keeping on like I have been. Between my Digi-Clone, my Drone, and all the Tediore “cheap drones” I throw out on reloads, I can keep enough attention distracted away from me to keep me alive. :+1:

Sounds like a solid plan. Anything to keep the guns pointed away from your direction. And you can always swap to your barrier while waiting for another action skill on cool down. It’s easier if you’re playing solo.

Sometimes I’ll just toss my barrier behind me to cover my escape if I’m just running through an area. I have a few weapons with “clone swap” anoints, so I might try using him more in place of the barrier. I love the barrier, but I love my SNTNL +100 cryo weapons more. :grinning:

Honestly, it seems like it is more broken than it has ever been. In the new DLC, Barrier doesn’t seem to work against many beams or projectiles.

So, the best advice I have is to put the max amount of points into Zane’s skills that boost his Shield Capacity, recharge rate, and recharge delay, get the most powerful shield you can find for him, and then use a Class Mod that boosts his shield improvement skills even more. Then respec him to use the Drone and the Digi-Clone.

That’s fine and all, but really they should fix Barrier…

Thats normal - youre reflecting bullets off their shield and reflected bullets dont get eaten by barrier. Its consistent with other reflect mechanics.

if you aim precisely and only hit their head youre not going to take any damage.

All things considered they should just make barried affect everything properly but only make it like 50% damage reduction for the all around and 100% for the only front facing barrier or something.
Making it into a 100% invincibility from all sides and almost permanent uptime tool is stupid for obvious reasons.

No, that’s not it. I’m well aware of how their shields work, and I can drop them with my Lob or Redistributor without any issues, regardless of where I aim. This was them moving into my barrier, without being stunned, and hitting me. Every single one melee attack through the run was doing this, same for the wardogs.

When the barrier is working properly, if they are moving and perform their slide attack, they can bypass the barrier, hit me for maybe half my shield, then they bounce off and are staggered. If they just come up to me, for a normal attack, they will bounce off. Occasionally one will manage to get inside the barrier.

When the barrier isn’t working properly, even the normal melee troops can drop shield and health. Normally, only the invisible guys or a heavy’s slam can bypass my barrier in a single attack and drop my shield.
