New to game, best class?

Hello. I decided to try the series for the first time and I have purchased the Borderlands GoTY on PS4. This lockdown seems the right time to start so can you advise me as to the best class for a new player? I haven’t played Borderlands before so have no idea what to expect really apart from it’s a shooter.

I would go siren - Phasewalk will get you out of a jam in a hurry. You’ll find a Lilith section here with some resources that should help with understanding the skills. Enjoy the ride!

I would start Mordecai or Lilith.

Thank you both for the reply, it seems you both recommend Lilith, so I will go with her!

More love for Lilith here.
She, in my opinion, has the best general offensive capability, SMGs and her skills plus the damage increases her Mercenary class mod offers makes her a devastating damage per second machine. Find a Hellfire SMG and you’ll be golden, but any high fire rate SMG (like a Stinger) that you may find will be great.
Then her action skill, Phase Walk, is the ultimate escape dangerous situations skill, when you find yourself in trouble just activate your action skill and get the hell out before you die.
I’ve run many Lilith’s from start of game to level 69 without dying, can’t say than for other classes.
Mordachai is 2nd, his DPS with snipers or pistols is also very good. His action skill is much less useful, but with Mordy I generally stay further away from enemies that with other characters.
Roland is meh. He’s general purpose combat, with a so-so action skill.
Brick is pure melee, and I personally don’t like melee, so I have no opinion on how good he is.

He is the melee specialist, but that’s hardly all he has. Brick’s key thing is shield/health tanking, with focus on melee or explosive damage.
With his huge hitbox and strange playstyle(intentionally get downed in good positions to abuse Die Hard and kill skill focus) he’s the oddest BL1 toon and the last I’d suggest to a new player.

All that said, he is an absolute monster with the right gear and skills. I believe he attains the highest DPS out of any character(kill skills are insane) and he’d be the hardest to kill if Lilith’s Phasewalk didn’t do so much so well.

@StortTrold Welcome to the game! I’d agree everybody on the Lilith recommendation, but don’t brush off Mordecai or even Roland either. Roland is also a solid beginner’s choice as his skills buff stats that any weapon class can benefit from. If machine guns with boosted RPM and magazine capacites of 300+ sound fun, check out a Roland Heavy Gunner build.
