Do you play it safe and use a big shield like Joltzdude or use a small shield to proc Tenacious Defense more frequently?
Personally, I’ve been testing my red/green capstone build on TTD runs using Sitorak and the BBB and the performance has been great. I’m sure the x3 power charge shield would be a good fit too, as would that purple shield from DLC2 (once they fix it). It’s too bad that the irradiate chance on the Red Suit is so low – that would be a clever way to maintain CH stacks as well.
Sitorak was the first i tested and it felt really good. Just make sure to deactivate those 2 Shield guardian rank skills.
What i plan to test next is a sprint roughrider, still don´t have one tho. The purple DLC2 one interests me too, should be pretty darn good once it´s fixed.
But yeah, sitorak really fits the bill.

I use a Big Boom Blaster. It feels way tankier than anything I’ve tried. I tried JD’s build and the giant shield doesn’t really help unless you give it time to recharge. BBB also gives you as many grenades as you need for the On Grenade Thrown anoint, which is nice if you’re not using MoD.
I have not used a lot of different shields with TD mainly because BBB were the first one i gave it a proper go with and it already ticked all the boxes what i wanted out of it.
I were fortunate enough to get a lvl 57 BBB with 2x power charge so yeah, i most likely won’t change it anytime soon q^_^p
i can tell you if i was playing this i’d absolutely go with a small shield. probably a low value BBB or that new Torch shield, likely with a health modifier.
unless you’re going with hyper massive sizes, shields offer very little protection compared to health, and even then there are plenty of enemies with attacks that can auto-deplete an entire shield. i’d rather have my shield breaking to proc TD constantly and just keep health up with the COM that try and push points to create a large shield effect.
The Red Suit could maybe be an alternative. I forget what it’s rate is like though but the capacity is pretty low.
I had picked up a 3x recharge I think and it might be in my bank, I should take a look at it. Only problem is the TD bonus isn’t even worth the trouble to begin with really.
I tried the Sitorak shield and it’s great, max health and gun damage, plus quick recharge for TD.
Old God may be useful for the bonus Elemental damage and the reduced elemental damage, but sounds like less damage in paper, maybe with a next 2 mags fire damage may be interesting.
Another shield I need to try is the recharger.
And another underrated shield is the Rico, since you always have your shield depleted, the 80% reflect may be really interesting (also CH procs).

For those interested Joltz just put out a video on this.
Tested Frozen Heart: its great for mobbing and CC.
Nova Berner: killer for fleshy enemies (DLC 2 for example)
BBB: Like you said, feels more tanky and grenade refill is always welcome
Sitorak: Its fun with nice dmg ouput but you feel naked LOL
Recharger: My workhorse atm with my current G/R build
Tbh the o ly route to go with this is a recharger so u have 100%up time on tenacious defense since the charge effect happens every 20 seconds. The build I made for sapper is honestly your go to I changed the weapons I use now to just pure SMG but u can also rock assault rifles and such but here’s the link.
The big issue with joltz build is hes completly missing out on any gun damage from desperate measures. U should rock 2 points in thin red line also the shredifier is honestly a bad gun not even a top 5 assault rifle imo go for the soulrender if u like assault skulls can also proc ammo/grenade regen from mod. Along with multiple things like the ricochet from rowans calls. I think joltz should have thought about his build alot more before putting it out cuz he didnt optimize anything really tbh
