[Discussion] Maliwan Takedown and Moze - What Works, What Doesn't

I made this thread so we can compile builds, tips and suggestions for Maliwan Takedown (non-Mayhem and Mayhem), especially for solo attempts.

The biggest hurdles in the Maliwan Takedown (as far I can see) are survival, Moze’s speed against WOTAN and WOTAN’s double-shield stage. How are you tackling these and other challenges?

My only issue is survival. If I had a skill in the BM or SoR tree that give a little bit a health healing I would have a few builds that work with a few different COMs. I don’t like relying on Transformer, BBB, or Vampyr.

What works is nothing. The game is broken. To defeat the broken game, you can equip a low level stop-gap with Bloodletter and have immunity, your damage output will lack.

A Kybs Worth and an Otto Idol relic could be hella useful, if you can get them.

Unfortunately, Kybby is a Maliwan Takedown exclusive so…the gun you need is behind the content you need it for. Lol

Is it possible to get it from other Mayhem levels? I guess I’ll just have to farm it on Amara.

Binary Kybs Worth + Blast Master is the only thing that works for me and even then it’s by the skin of my teeth that I get past Wotan

Well, I have HEARD but not confirmed. That if you take on Maliwan Takedown at lower Mayhem, you can still get the exclusives. But. I haven’t really done much to verify.

I have extensive experience on trying to keep Moze alive. It may be cheap tactics but I found a great safe zone for the artillery missiles. From the spot you start go to the far left wall, go past the tower, and look for 3 Maliwan crates. When you go behind it you’ll see a small gap in the crates. Push up against this gap and crouch. Since I found that spot I never get hit by the barrage. Do not use your grenades as a damage dealer, they are your lifeline, chuck them either to heal or setup a status effect. Don’t bother too much with any weapons that aren’t shock or corrode, normal bullets do little damage to 80% of the adds you face. Super Important Tip Kill the adds before any Wotan transition! (beginning shield>Armor>gap barrier>jumping>double shield>split ). I know this sucks but unless your teammate is behind cover do not revive them. You will get yourself killed quickly, instead shoot at the add they are shooting. If they aren’t shooting adds to revive let them die. I’ll get some more tips going later. (console texting is horribly tedious)

Probably true, but I would expect that the chances are lowered (lowered luck), and at a lower gear score.

Gear score will be the same. It’s an irrelevant stat.

I can confirm you can, I haven’t beaten it on anything higher than mayhem 1 and had one drop for me.

I got my Kyb’s Worth from MH3. I’ve also had coop partners get them at MH3.

I’ll take that as a confirmed :joy:. Yay! Time to do the thing.

I got all of my kyb’s in m0, for what matters, Not anointed, ofc, but it’s a start.

Anyway, what works for me withe the double dome phase is a mix of transfomer, wampyr, flak/ogre and an electric torgue clusterf*ck. Chucking the grenade and combining it with the flak/ogre allows me to take down the shield very quickly and stay alive due to the healing effects of the grenade+transfomer.
All the other phases are running in circle from the barrages + killing mobs before each transition, and hopping on the air stream to get air time to chuck more grenades into wotan’s shields along with an electric cutsam.
I complete the takedown easily every time unless I screw up badly because I get too confident.

You can always use the transformer and chuck a tediore shock shotgun to your feet 100% of the time but good luck if you stop doing that for 1 second cause you’re dead.
Or use a stop gap that give you 5 seconds of invincibility but doesnt work with deathless. Or the level 1 stop gap with bloodletter health regen, that work but its gonna get nerfed next week.
Or use Vampyr and hex grena… oh no that got double nerfed a few weeks back.
Luckily for us Moze players the Bloodletter didnt got nerfed with an insane recharge delay and rate.
Maybe using another of Moze’s healing skills… oh right she has only one.
At least when we go down we have a free second wind like Amara, Flak or Zane. Ah…What’s that?.. oh Moze doesnt have a free second wind either.
Talking about dps, I dont know because I never get that far into the fight.

I’ve been having success with a Deathless build on Mayhem 1. The loss of health-gating isn’t a huge issue if you leave a couple of enemies (preferably Omnispheres) hanging around. The only time it is a problem is when WOTAN starts spawning Strikers (the homing rocket deathspheres), but at that point you can use IB. I’m not sure if it this can work on higher Mayhem levels.

Weapons I’m using are Cutsman for WOTAN, x2 Kill of the Wisp to quickly get rid of the Kraken-mech shields when they spawn and something to heal a transformer. I also found a Snowdrift Deathless which makes up for the speed problem.

It does. I always leave omnispheres around for free second winds and I have been able to solo up to m3.

Can’t tell for m4 because I am not even gonna try solo until GR and moze skills get fixed for good.

Yeah, I know. The current state of moze kinda sucks if you compare it to other characters that get a free 500% damage only for breathing.
That said, tediore chucks and the stopgap exploit are the lamest ways to play, in my opinion, and I would rather die horribly in m4 than resorting to such kind of stuff.
They are not builds, as shamfleeting and flak-ahab-ing weren’t in bl2.

I need to get my hands on that scourge. Time to farm brood mother

This may seem like common sense, but I see people do it all the time. DO NOT heavy charge forward then camp the spot alone. Adds will spawn multiple times from doors and drop downs. Just because you cleared the guys behind you doesn’t mean you’re safe. Shoot the barrels. They weren’t put there randomly, if you see barrels expect something to walk near them. Speaking of random, Important Tip pay attention to what and where adds spawn. They aren’t as random as you think. Case in point; Right after the Valkyries. The adds will spawn in the same pattern everytime, the random part is their type. So a heavy will drop at the same spot but it might be a pyro or Frostbite. Use this info to setup OHK opportunities. Lastly for now, for the love of god kill the orbs first. Especially in the first area. They will flank you if you ignore them.
