Axton a badass?

The whole time I’ve owned bl2 I’ve never once played as axton because everybody I knew said he sucked and wasn’t worth it. I’m now playing as axton and I’m gliding through uvhm with no troubles at all. He’s a damn monster and in my mind he comes in right behind sal in the damage department. I really enjoy playing as axton. Anybody that wants to post their axton builds and tell me how they like the build it would be much appreciated

Honestly, people say he’s easy to play. But then I look at Sal and go “reaaalllllyyyy?”.

Axton was my first toon I got to 72, I have just under 10 days playtime with him, and I have never once felt the need to get a Moxxi weapon for survivability. He can be a beast with the right build. My advice is to look at the Top Gear For Axton thread, and the Master Build Collection.

Axton is a great character. I always build him with double shielded turrets with slag rockets, it’s so good.

There are no bad characters in bl2 or any of the borderlands games. I like some more than others but that’s my tastes, not how good or bad they are.

Axton gets dissed because he doesn’t have that one OP skill or skills that allow for massive damage being done with a single shot or weapon type yet he is the most versatile character IMO…

He does have tediore reloads

It’s not an offensive skill but Grit chains are pretty hilarious.

On a related note, don’t let community sentiment about “terrible” gear preclude you from at least trying it. With a little trickery from the OP system, I have only found two (2) pieces of gear that I won’t use (although I still try them on occasion to be sure I’m not missing something). As a case in point: I recently took Axton through Southpaw Steam and Power using only a Landscaper and Magic Missiles.

Well, give- what are the 2 pieces of gear you won’t use (or is it just Axton you won’t use them for?).

The Madhous! and The Cradle (on any character). The Madhous! rounds don’t reliably hit targets in front of me, nor do their ricochet’s reliably hit targets (even with Close Enough). The Cradle would be fine as an otherwise lousy shield if the projectile’s damage was noteworthy. In the event that I get the projectile to hit an enemy, it barely scratches them (and I’m giving mine a 5-level OP buff too). As I think about it, I’m about due to dust these off again and see if I’m missing something. Maybe the Madhous! is more reliable at shotgun range?

I used to think Madhous! was crap until I saw @MOLMF’s video on it. Apparently the trick is to shoot at the enemy’s feet. Still wouldn’t call it a great weapon but now I know it isn’t as awful as it’s generally considered to be.

That’ll work, thanks! I have odd rules that “force” me to use the biggest weapon variety possible. The Madhous! fills the “Non-E-Tech Slag Bandit Assault Rifle” niche, which I’ve been heretofore avoiding.

This, all the characters are totally viable in UVHM. It really just comes down to who you enjoy and understand. Some classes are easier to understand than others. People go through normal and TVHM relying on their turret for damage, then toss their controller in frustration in UVHM, saying Axton sucks because his turret can’t kill stuff anymore. A properly played class is way more powerful than a poorly played one.

Considering I took Axton through my first UVHM playthrough using the Greed and a Fire Moloko (the E-Tech Sniper), without any of the knowledge I have now, not knowing Slag is basically mandatory, I’d say Axton is pretty badass.

Axton is my main (op2) and I love playing him. Having said that, I notice When I play with him I get a bit lazy and content. Next thing I know I have ■■■■ all up in my face. I really noticed it when I play my others.

I’ll throw out a couple turrets and say “hey, what’s in this chest?” go looking around for stuff and the next I know I have a super bad ass golith jumping on my head. Happens all the time…lol

Same here. Axton is one of my relaxing characters to play.
