Recently I’ve started to try and use the Pimp to its max potential and I’ve got to say, I’m really loving this gun. Easy to get, extremely powerful and its special effect makes it interesting and challenging to use to its full potential.
My question is what are the best parts and why? I see differing opinions and versions used depending on who’ve I’ve seen using them though, dating all the way back to the old forums.
I’ve seen Banbury with Maliwan grip, Barking with Jakobs and vice versa and so on. Some of these conversations were centered around Zero and I’m wondering if the differences are because Maya is better off with a higher damage weapon while Zero has enough damage potential and that makes the Banbury a better option for him?
I’m planning on getting 3 or possibly 4 versions (still undecided about slag, but I might want it for a different character later on) once I get my Siren to OP8 and I’d like to know what I should be shooting for because I hate quest farming, but I’m willing to do it for this weapon.
Will any stock besides Jakobs be good enough, but hope for Dahl? Should I not worry about this too much since quest farming is already a giant pain?
Which prefix and grip combo should I want? If I don’t want to be too picky, will either of the above versions (Barking or Banbury, Maliwan or Jakobs) be great since the gun is so good?
I’m not too worried about the sight, so that will be pretty irrelevant to any version I take.
Any help and insight from dedicated Pimp users (and I know there are a few here) would be appreciated!
Not sure about parts, but in terms of raw damage, Barking is better. Gentleman’s is better for use with The Bee shield, as most of the damage will come from the amp anyway, but the extra 120% critical hit is worthwhile.
Of course, it can be quite tricky to get crits with the Pimpernel since you normally shouldn’t be aiming for the same places as a standard SR to get the full effect of the extra pellets.
If I was quest farming, I’d just stash it as soon as I get the right element, unless it is something especially bad. Pimp too good for parts to matter much, unless you insist on squeezing out the last few drops of performance. You can get, say, the slag one as Banbury/Maliwan and the corr one as Barking/Jakobs, then figure out what you prefer and whether you want to put down the save/quit effort to get the details right.
Barking/Jakobs gives you max damage, Banbury/Maliwan max dps. Like derch said, ‘best’ comes down to toon and build and preference. Hyperion or Dahl for stock. Gentleman’s is not best with the bee for single shot damage, the math for that has been done before, and Gentleman’s does not add 120% of crit damage, only 20% on top of the 100% inherent to non-Jakobs snipers. If you need bee on your pimp I can’t even imagine what you are up against, but you would probably be best off with fire rate for expedient amp delivery.
If you’re not getting the full set, drop the shock one, you only really need it for fire-res flesh enemies, which is almost never. Slag pimp is the best slagger in the game, and packs enough punch to strip shield without needing to swap weapons.
I personally favor the damage prefix (Barking), Jakobs grip and Dahl stock.
Matching grip will work aswell, but personally, I prefer the highest damage per projectile.
Thanks for the reply and info. I was leaning towards thinking that it didn’t really matter that much since it’s so powerful, but since I’ll be starting a fresh playthrough and grabbing them ASAP I just wanted to make sure. Didn’t want to regret taking something and then have to consider starting all over yet again.
Dropping the shock version is probably something I’ll do as well. Obviously fire and corrosive are the first priorities, but after thinking about it, shock seems really unnecessary for the most part.
I generally prefer the fire rate accessory on all my sniper rifles, the Pimpernel especially. Banbury handles easier, allows faster follow up shots, and has more than enough damage. If you’re like me, and miss shooting the sweet spot (read: the dick) often with a Pimpernel, then you’ll appreciate these sorts of things. I also like matching grip on my weapons for faster reload speed and increased magazine size.
But if you’re the master of your domain and it only takes 1-2 shots for you to hit the sweet spot, well then, Barking Jakobs will serve you well.
If I’m quest farming anything I always prioritize parts over prefix.
I am definitely not the master of my domain and constantly getting 1-2 shot kills, so that will be something to consider. I fell like I do ok as far as hitting the sweet spot goes, but still not amazing or anything.
If you’re going for the kill shot every time, Jakobs Barking.
If this is more of a sustained fire thing, Maliwan Banbury.
Jakobs and Barking will both increase damage, so they are somewhat interchangeable. Maliwan grip is a must if you intend to use it as a slagger.
I prefer a middle ground personally: I like Maliwan Barking. I get increased damage, great reload speed and a bigger mag for when I want to just keep shooting.
Banbury Jakobs is a poor match IMO: you get about the same damage as Maliwan Barking, but you shoot faster…with a smaller mag and longer reload, so your gain in FR is completely lost if you shoot 8-9 times or more… And it wasn’t really worth it if you shot less than that anyway.
When it’s easier to hip-fire a sniper rifle rather than ADS, and the results of the number of critical hits are largely unpredictable, it shouldn’t be classified as a precision instrument. Compare a Hawkeye to a Pimpernel. You get one chance to score a Critical Hit versus 7 or whatever. Yes you have to aim the initial shot, but it’s really an estimate.
I don’t think using it in this way was even considered when it was designed. The designer probably thought the pellet bloom would be AoE damage after scoring a critical hit with the main projectile.
Imo, Banbury for the one with slag, Barking for the rest. As for the grip, since you will be farming for them, I’d say take either(except for the one with slag, of course, but some may argue even about that), if the stock, the prefix and the element are good.
P.S Derch, Chuck, how the life is treating you, gents?
I don’t see the big difference in sniping with the Hawkeye and pimp. With both I’m aiming to a certain spot to inflict maximum damage and hopefully killing the enemy with one shot.
Just because where I aim is a different location does not change the activity of sniping.
I was planning to return with the PS4 version, but I’m extremely disappointed with it: technical reasons aside, apparently OP3+ matchmaking isn’t fixed. I’m not sure why I was so sure that they will fix it, though…
Then, I lost my profile AGAIN, and the back-up is almost 2 years old. Over weekend I opened OP8(from OP2) with ragtag gear, it was quite an experience and I feel the game is hooking me back again, We’ll see.
I’d have to say the shock version is probably my favourite. Certainly when I used it with my Axton it seemed to take down all comers better than almost anything else. I used to do Hero’s Pass with just a Shock Gentleman’s Pimpernel. Especially the Badass Constructor just melted and as for the Warrior, it was by far the Best weapon to use for me.
Conversely, I was most disappointed with my Incendiary Pimpernel. For reasons I can’t explain my Shock was much more efficient at taking down flesh enemies than my Incendiary seemed to be, plus it also took Loaders down with ease, too. Corrosive was better at armoured foes but not by an awful lot I have to say, while Shock was the most versatile of the lot. If I had to choose one it would be Shock every time
