I’ve used 10 Golden Keys and all I get are Pistols in the middle compartment. Does Borderlands 3 only give pistols? Or have I just had really bad luck? I never use pistols, so it’s a complete waste of my keys. I’ve now got a Legendary grenade. I like it, but it wasn’t worth 10 Golden Keys, if ya know what I mean.
You’re complaining about free gear?
Thank you for answering my question. I appreciate you taking the time to help.
Wouldn’t call it “really bad luck”. Just not particularly lucky.
As everything else in Borderlands. The gold chest drops are “pistol heavy”. You’ll see more pistols than anything else from any loot containers and whatnot.
That bums me out a little. I’ve played every Borderlands game, and it always feels like they just want you to use pistols. Not sure why. (Hard to get Sniper bullets in ammo boxes too) But thank you for letting me know. I didn’t want to use any more keys if I didn’t have ANY chance at another gun type. I would just wait and use them every few levels for grenades and shields. Very nice of you to give me a straight answer. My next key after your post was a Sniper Rifle. So, I’m gonna have a good day.
I’ve been lucky with the few keys I spent and got nice legendary Jackobs… pistols!
I’m attempting to try using them. I’ve got one that works like an SMG, but does more damage. I can get excited about that. And I have one that feels like an assault rifle with radiation damage. It uses a lot of bullets, but rips through everything. So I guess if I find ones that “feel good” to me, I can start using some of the ones I get. I guess I just need to try them out before selling them.
What lvl are you?
I recall in BL2 you would get weapons in line with your level and progress.
When you unlocked the 3rd weapon slot, you’d get AR’s, then the 4th would be more Rocket Launchers.
could your level have something to do with it?
This was from a month ago but I was level 20. The prior chest had a four legendary shields. It’s all up to the RNG gods:
I was 18, now 24. Still getting pistols, shields and grenade mods. TPS was almost all pistols as well. I had over 200 keys, but it was annoying running to sell pistols 5 or 6 times before I could get something I would use. Borderlands 1 didn’t have much selection, so you would get the same weapons sometimes 3 times back to back. I think 2 was the most balanced, but I still got pistols about 50% of the time.
I’m storing all my gold keys until 100
Great idea. Didn’t know it gave out legendaries. In BL2, I got a lot of the bigger guns from Moxxi’s slots, but it didn’t offer legendary. Thank you.
I posted a bunch on the Item of the Day thread including the Cutsman. I’m constantly looking for decent class mods and the slots were a good way to spend eridium (cheaper than using cash).
@ziminy ive noticed the same emphasis on pistols and pistol ammo too. Its super frustrating to only be able to use my sniper rifle for about 25% of any given quest (especially when playing as a team) because I ran out of ammo and have to drop back to a secondary weapon because we’re only finding pistol and AR/SMG ammo. (& for some reason on one quest we did together: exclusively rocket/pistol ammo which was bizarre… We ran out of everything)
Shouldn’t there be a better average to get other weapons & ammo, especially if the computer has the ability to calculate what our primary weapons used are, with their ranks?
They don’t want us using Sniper rifles. Not sure why. I usually have to open 8 or 10 chests to get 1 measly pack of bullets. I count. My record so far in Borderlands 3 is 18 chests with no sniper bullets. AND… It was the only ammo I was out of. I think it is a COMPLETE MYTH that the game tries to give you the ammo you are out of. I have had this same issue in BL2. I’m playing BL1 right now (hate the halloween crap) and it’s the only Borderlands game that seems to give an even amount of sniper ammo. Sometimes I even open a chest with 4 cartridges. Crazy, right? So, if they started out being fair, I wonder what the reason is for trying to force the same gun style down our throats. In BL2 it was SMG ammo. Stacks of it in every chest in every corner of the game. I never once used an SMG in that whole game. It was maddening. They want us all to be 12 years old and just run around blindly with the trigger pulled spraying bullets everywhere. AND… Are you like me? I will use a good sniper close up too? I will run right into battle with that mofo and blow your effing brains out with it. Hahahahaha. (until I run out of ammo)
