Notes
Weapons with next to their name can spawn with the 160% and 125% splash damage anointments. My reference is the guide compiled by @twoPIZZA here.
You will see icons, for each piece of gear, indicating which builds a piece of particular gear works best with. This is not a recommendation to note use that gear with other builds, as many weapons are viable in multiple builds. It is only meant to highlight which gear is noteworthy for certain builds. The explanation of the icons is directly below.
- Some for the Road - By hopping in and out of Iron Bear, Moze can gain infinite ammo for 5 seconds. This lets her abuse extremely powerful weapons that are otherwise limited by magazine sizes to deal very high amounts of damage.
- Blast Master - These are builds that rely on the Blast Master class mod to deal high amounts of splash damage.
- Iron Bear - It is possible to have Iron Bear do most, if not all, of Moze’s damage by piloting him constantly. These builds typically require Moze to sacrifice some of her effectiveness outside Iron Bear. Gear with this icon will typically improve Iron Bear.
- Auto Bear - The Rockeeter class mod significantly extends Auto Bear’s duration, enabling Moze to fight almost constantly along side Iron Bear.
- Short Fuse - While Short Fuse can be used in Blast Master builds, there is room for builds that use Moze’s other class mods with Short Fuse. For an analysis of Short Fuse, please check out Prismatic_Me’s guide here.
- Bloodletter - Moze can opt to sacrifice all her health, gaining increased shields and gun damage in return from the Shield of Retribution tree. While this can have its drawbacks, some gear works particularly well with this playstyle.
- Tediore - Some people just like to throw guns instead of shooting them. This indicates which guns are best for throwing and which gear is best for people who like to throw guns.
Pistols
Beacon
Elements: |
|
|
|
Best Prefix:
Obtain From: Jerrick Logan
Preferred Builds:
The Beacon is a legendary Maliwan pistol notable for its high damage and fire-rate values. The combination of its high fire-rate and average magazine size makes it less efficient with Blast Master than other options, but it can still be made to work with some investment in magazine size. The red text effect creates a nova whenever the weapon is reloaded. This effect is relatively strong and usable by non-Blaster Master builds.
Prompt Critical

|
Best Prefix:
Obtain From: Evil Lilith
Preferred Builds:
Gargoyle
Elements:
Best Prefix:
Obtain From: Dickon Goyle
Preferred Builds:
The Gargoyle is a legendary COV pistol with an alien barrel. Like non-legendary alien barrel pistols, it fires projectiles which explode after a short time. Its red text ability gives it a chance to fire corrosive blobs alongside its normal projectiles. This pistol is highly recommended against armored enemies, like WOTAN, but does enough damage that it can be worth using against non-armored enemies
Lucky 7
Elements:
Best Prefix:
Obtain From: Scraptrap Prime
Preferred Builds: Any (with Bottomless Mags)
The Lucky 7 is a legendary Jakobs pistol that has a chance to activate one or more bonuses when reloaded. Moze, using Bottomless Mags and passive magazine size bonuses (from skills and equipment) can avoid reloading the Lucky 7 and thus indefinitely use the desired combination of bonuses. The Lucky 7’s bonuses are represented by five slot machine icons which appear after reloading. The most important of these are the first (auto-crit) and the last (x7 pellets).
Hornet
Elements:

Best Prefix:
Obtain From: Mother of Grogans
Preferred Builds:

The Hornet is a legendary Dahl pistol that deals splash damage. Although restricted to one element, its high base damage makes it serviceable against most enemies and extremely effective against armored enemies, like WOTAN.

Plasma Coil
Elements: |
Best Prefix:
Obtain From: Arms Race DLC
Preferred Builds:
The Plasma Coil is a legendary Maliwan SMG that can only be obtained in the Stormblind Complex. It is notable for dealing splash damage and having extremely high base damage, making it one of the most powerful weapons to use with Short Fuse. It has an unusual firing mode for a Maliwan weapon, causing it to burst-fire after charging up, and always spawns with radiation and shock elements.
Flipper
Elements: |
|
|
|
Best Prefix:
Obtain From: Minosaur
Preferred Builds:
The Flipper is a legendary Maliwan SMG and arguably one the best weapons Moze can have. It deals splash damage (without dealing self-damage), and comes with considerable damage stats and respectable magazine sizes. Its red text effect causes the Flipper to fire more and more pellets the longer the trigger is held down, to a maximum of nine in a diamond-shaped pattern, multiplying the base damage of the gun. Ordinarily, it is limited by the fact that reloading resets the number of pellets it fires back to one, but Moze can mitigate or even completely ignore this limitation.
Kaoson
Elements: |
|
|
|
|
Best Parts: Full-auto
Obtain From: Captain Traunt (Mayhem 6 and above)
Preferred Builds:
The Kaoson is a legendary Dahl SMG and a suitable - albeit noticeably inferior - substitute for the Flipper. It fires sticky projectiles which explode after a short time; these deal splash damage both when they stick to the enemy and explode. The Kaoson should not be used without a full-auto firing, as the burst fire delay between bursts will significantly lower its damage output.

Kyb’s Worth
Elements: |

Best Parts:
Obtain From: WOTAN
Preferred Builds:
The Kyb’s Worth is a Maliwan that borrows some ideas from Hyperion. It brings together the elemental versatility of Maliwan guns and a Hyperion shield, and adds to this a unique red text effect which causes dead enemies to spawn a healing circle every once in a while. It typically has decent damage stats, a sizeable magazine and comes in x2 or x3 variants, which consume 1 and 2 ammo respectively, making it ideal for Moze’s splash damage set-ups.

Snipers
Boogeyman

Best Prefix:
Best Prefix:
Obtain From: Arms Race DLC
Preferred Builds:
The Boogeyman is a legendary Vladof sniper that is found only in the Stormblind Complex. It has a high chance not consume ammunition, which together with some skill point investment in Bottomless Mags, enables Moze to shoot it almost indefinitely. The Boogeyman also has a chance on a kill to create a ghostly skull which pursues enemies. Skulls created by this ability are treated as grenades (meaning that they can crit with Pull the Holy Pin). The Boogeyman and its skulls deal splash damage, making this weapon ideal for Moze.
Firestorm
Elements:
Best Prefix:
Obtain From: Katagawa Jr
Preferred Builds:
The Firestorm is a legendary Maliwan sniper that deals a respectable amount of splash damage. It has a very high splash damage radius, making it especially effective against groups of enemies. Its red text ability causes its shots to spawn fireballs just above the point of impact, which then rain down on enemies, dealing further splash damage.
Sand Hawk
Elements: |
|
|
|
Best Prefix:
Obtain From: Katagawa Jr (Mayhem 6 and above)
Preferred Builds:
The Sand Hawk is a legendary Dahl sniper which fires multiple projectiles which have a very high combined damage. These also deal splash damage, benefiting from Moze’s Demolition Woman abilities, but travel very slowly, making the Sand Hawk difficult to use at longer ranges against moving targets.
Honorable Mentions
Headsplosion
Elements:
Best Prefix:
Obtain From: King Bobo
Preferred Builds:
The Headsplosion is a Jakobs legendary sniper that is notable for dealing splash damage on impact. This enables it to benefit from Moze’s splash damage bonuses. Its base damage is high enough that, with the right anointment and some help from passive bonuses from class mods and artifacts, it can mob efficiently on Normal Maliwan Takedown. It can also be used for bossing with an amp shield and Short Fuse.
Krakatoa
Elements:
Best Prefix:
Obtain From: Tumorhead
Preferred Builds:
The Krakatoa is a legendary Maliwan sniper which comes with very high damage stats. It does not deal splash damage on hit, making it much less useful for Moze in general, but can still be worth using in sub-optimal set ups. Its red text ability creates a small volcano whenever an enemy is killed, and the projectiles spewed by this volcano can deal splash damage to other enemies. This effect, however, is only situationally useful.
Lyuda
Elements: |
|
|
|
|
Best Prefix:
Obtain From: Tremendous Rex, Reward for Target of Opportunity challenge
Preferred Builds:
The Lyuda is a legendary Vladof sniper which always spawns with a tri-barrel. Its high fire-rate enables it to be used like an assault rifle, when the magazine size can be made large enough that Moze’s Bottomless Mags abilities can sustain firing without reloading. Its red text effect makes the Lyuda’s shots split into three after traveling a short distance. This makes the Lyuda less useful at close range, where it does less damage, and at long range, where the trajectory of the split shots can miss enemies entirely.
Launchers
Ion Cannon
Elements: |
|
|
|
|
Best Prefix:
Obtain From: Fabricator
Preferred Builds:
Ion Cannon comes with the highest base damage per projectile for any weapon in the game. This, combined with the fact that Short Fuse double-dips in a lot of bonuses, enables Moze to exploit the pre-determined Short Fuse proc pool to create Short Fuse explosions so powerful that they can one-shot bosses with a high degree of consistency. For a detailed guide on one-shotting bosses with Moze, click here.
Backburner
Elements: | |
|
|
|
Best Prefix:
Obtain From: Agonzier 9000
Preferred Builds:
The Backburner is a Vladof launcher which shoots an energy orb that creates a fountain of damaging projectiles at the point of impact. Its high damage and relatively fast fire-rate makes it for bossing, although its mechanics make it unreliable against quick-moving targets.
Plaguebearer
Elements: |
|
|
|
Best Prefix:
Obtain From: Warden (M6+)
Preferred Builds:
The Plaguebearer is a legendary equivalent of non-unique Lumps. After a moment of charging, it fires a big blob of energy which begins to spawn homing missiles. Upon impact, the energy blob deals a large amount of damage and causes a singularity. With Moze’s large splash damage bonuses and various ways of regenerating rocket ammo, the Plaguebearer can be an effective crowd control tool.

|
|
|
|
Best Prefix:
Obtain From: Brood Mother
Preferred Builds:
Quickie
Elements: |
|
|
|
|
Best Prefix:
Obtain From: Anywhere
Preferred Builds:
Quickies are non-unique Torgue launchers with a relatively high fire-rate and low magazine sizes. Depending on the parts, they can stack up to 75% damage per sticky that’s already on the enemy. With the temporary infinite ammo Moze gains from Some for the Road, Moze can ignore the low magazine size and stack as many stickies as possible on a single target, resulting in very high amounts of damage. This makes Quickies ideal for bossing.

Cloning Maddening Tracker
Elements:
Best Components N/A
Best Anointments: “On Grenade Thrown, Weapon, Grenade, and Action Skill damage are increased by 25% for 6 seconds”
Obtain From: Anywhere
Preferred Builds:
Cloning Maddening Trackers are Moze’s bread and butter and also her biscuits. Moze prefers grenades that can repeatedly trigger Means of Destruction, increasing the chances of paying for themselves, and repeatedly trigger Vampyr, to keep her health topped off. Cloning Maddening Trackers have the potential of impacting two times (original dividers), followed by three impacts per mirv, making them one of the most reliable utility grenades available.

Shields
Big Boom Blaster
Best Components: Health, Capacity, Power Charge
Best Anointments:
Obtain From: The Unstoppable
Preferred Builds:
The Big Boom Blaster has a 60% chance to drop a booster which restores 60% shields, 1 grenade and 1 heavy ammo when collected. The Big Boom Blaster’s biggest drawback is that it has a low capacity compared to other shields, but Moze can offset this by putting points into the Shield of Retribution tree. Moze’s Tenacious Defence capstone synergizes very will with the Big Boom Blaster, because an activation of Tenacious Defence and picking up one booster will fully restore the Big Boom Blaster.
Re-Charger
Best Components:
Best Anointments:
Obtain From: Urist McEnforcer
Preferred Builds:
The Re-charger, upon breaking, immediately refills Moze’s shields. This ability has a cooldown of 20s. This means the shield has effectively double the capacity, a feature which Moze can enhance with her shield boosting skills in her Shield of Retribution tree. Note that the Re-charger will not work if the instance of damage which breaks the shield puts Moze into FFYL, which means this shield should not be used with a 1hp build.
Stop-Gap
Best Components:
Best Anointments:
Obtain From: El Dragon Jr.
Preferred Builds:
The Stop-Gap gives five seconds of temporarily invincibility upon breaking, given that the instance of damage which breaks the shield does not put you into FFYL. This can give Moze a few crucial moments to regenerate health, seek cover or activate Iron Bear instead of being put into FFYL.
Plus Ultra
Best Components:
Best Anointments:
Obtain From: Dr. Benedict
Preferred Builds:
The Plus Ultra is a legendary shield which doubles Moze’s HP and gives her a 20% chance to absorb a bullet and increase Iron Bear’s cooldown rate for a few seconds. This makes it an ideal choice for Iron Bear builds, not only because of the improved action skill cooldown, but also because Iron Bear’s armor scales with Moze’s HP.
Old God
Best Components:
Best Anointments:
Obtain From: Randomly in DLC2
Preferred Builds:
The Old God is a legendary shield that boosts the damage of a particular elemental (typically the element it is resistant to) and provides an additional 25% elemental resistance to all elements. It also spawns with three components (excluding the Old God component) which can be stacked to provide significant defensive bonuses. The Band of Sitorak is a respectable replacement if one is unable to acquire the Old God.
Double Downer
Best Components: N/A
Best Anointments:
Obtain From: Reward for Double Down mission
Preferred Builds:
The Double Downer extends FFYL duration and gives Moze bonuses to her accuracy and weapon damage while in FFYL. This makes the Double Downer a particularly useful shield when Moze has a high risk of blowing herself up (such as with Mindsweeper builds), since self-damage on higher Mayhem levels will generally one-shot Moze regardless of her damage resistances or her shield/hp. Combined with the Guardian Rank perks that affect FFYL, this gives Moze significant opportunities for Second Winds.
Version 0.m
Best Components:
Best Anointments: “On Action Skill Start, activate any effects that trigger on shield break or fill”
Obtain From:
Preferred Builds:
The Version 0.m is a legendary amp shield which can be used by Moze or Iron Bear to easily one-shot (if at all possible) most bosses in the game when used with the right weapons, skills and anointments. When the shield breaks, it creates a circle on the ground which buffs Moze or Iron Bear’s damage, providing an additional boost to boss one-shotting set-ups.
Honorable Mentions
The Transformer
Best Components: N/A
Best Anointments:
Obtain From: Killavolt
Preferred Builds:
The Transformer turns all shock damage received, including that which is self-inflicted, into shields. This enables Moze to regenerate her shields on demand with shock splash damage. In addition to this, The Transformer has a 40% chance to absorb bullets instead of taking damage.
Class Mods
Blast Master
Best Skills: +1 Redistribution, +4 Vampyr
Obtain From: Arbalest of Discipline
Preferred Builds:
The Blast Master class mod rewards Moze for not reloading with a splash damage bonus, which reaches a maximum of 100% after 1 minute. Because Moze can easily maintain this bonus with most splash damage weapons, the Blast Master is one of Moze’s most consistent and damaging class mods.
Mind Sweeper
Best Skills: +1 Redistribution, +4 Torgue Cross-Promotion
Obtain From: Tink of Cunning
Preferred Builds:
The Mind Sweeper class mod gives Moze’s critical hits a 25% chance to drop a micro-grenade, whose base damage will be equal to the damage of critical hit that produced it. The Mind Sweeper is not a recommended class mod for lower difficulties, since many enemies on lower Mayhem modes tend to die from critical hits before the micro-grenades can have any effect. On higher difficulties, however, the micro-grenades will substantially increase Moze’s damage, as well as her health/ammo regeneration from Vampyr and Means of Destruction. Because Moze’s Pull the Holy Pin skill applies to micro-grenades, the micro-grenades will also activate Redistribution when they deal critical damage and may create their own micro-grenades. A chain of micro-grenades, while not very common, will deal exponential amounts of damage. (Damage formulas for Mind Sweeper are here).
Rocketeer
Best Skills: +5 Torgue Cross-Promotion
Obtain From: Arbalest of Discipline
Preferred Builds:
The Rocketeer mod changes the way the Auto Bear skill works. Normally, Auto Bear lets Iron Bear assist Moze for fifteen seconds when Moze exits Iron Bear. With Rocketeer, Iron Bear will hang around until it uses up all of its fuel, at the cost of not refunding Moze’s action skill cooldown if she exits Iron Bear early. Although Rocketeer’s red text ability doesn’t offer either Moze or Iron Bear additional damage bonuses, the two of them being able to work together continuously makes Rocketeer viable in nearly any situation. (It is not recommended against Anathema in Guardian Takedown). Note that Auto Bear will still use all of its fuel if you switch class mods after deploying Auto Bear with Rocketeer; this makes it possible to switch to a class mod that provides stronger bonuses that Rocketeer (like Blast Master), while using Rocketeer’s ability.
Bear Trooper | Raging Bear
Best Skills: +5 Stainless Steel Bear
Obtain From: Tyrant of Instinct | Billy the Anointed
Preferred Builds:
Iron Bear builds will want one of these class mods. Bear Trooper increases Iron Bear’s duration and has skills which improve Iron Bear’s cooldown, while Raging Bear improves Iron Bear’s damage and conditionally improves Iron Bear’s duration (with heavy investment in Deadlines, and therefore kills). Either one will serve Iron Bear well in most situations, and so can be considered interchangeable.

Artifacts
Legendary artifacts typically have two components in addition to three passive abilities. There are two sections below, one for recommended top components and one for recommended bottom components. The ideal combination depends on the build and the situation.
Top Component
Elemental Projector
Obtain From: Anywhere
Preferred Builds:
Whenever Moze is afflicted with an elemental status ailment, the Elemental Projector artifact increases the damage Moze deals with elemental damage type which corresponds to that status ailment. This works for status ailments Moze inflicts herself with, giving Moze a relatively painless and significant buff to damage whenever she needs it. Popular ways to activate Elemental Projector are low level grenades or a low level Sellout.
Snowdrift
Obtain From: Anywhere
Preferred Builds:
The Snowdrift increases Moze’s slide speed. There are situations where Moze’s running speed (which is the slowest in BL3) can become problematic (for instance, if one is using weapons like the Lyuda - which require their projectiles to travel a certain distance before reaching their full effectivness - or if one is trying to avoid AoE attacks). The Snowdrift solves this problem for Moze.
Last Stand
Obtain From: Anywhere
Preferred Builds:
The Last Stand Artifact works similarly to the Stop-Gap shield. Whenever Moze’s drops below 50%, she gains 5 seconds of invulnerability, unless the Last Stand ability is on cooldown. This Artifact can be a lifesaver in many situations, preventing enemies from comboing Moze to death and permitting Moze to recover.
Honorable Mentions
Cutpurse
Obtain From: Anywhere
Preferred Builds:
The Cutpurse Artifact is the backbone of Moze’s Everblast builds (Tediore Shotguns with MIRVs). Although these builds are very strong, the Cutpurse is here included only as an honorable mention because these builds require multiple pieces of gear to work, meaning that by itself, the Cutpurse isn’t that great.
Bottom Component
Deathless
Obtain From: Phoenix
Preferred Builds:
The Deathless artifact is one of the most efficient ways to reserve Moze’s HP in order to gain the full benefits of Desperate Measures and massively increase Moze’s shields. This artifact is a staple for Moze’s 1 hp builds.
Victory Rush
Obtain From: Sloth
Preferred Builds:
The Victory Rush gives Moze a respectable movement and damage buff whenever she kills a badass enemy. Although a Victory Rush won’t always be beneficial, there are situations where it will be easy to activate and maintain the Victory Rush bonus, like the Slaughter Shaft.
Unique
The Pearl of Ineffable Knowledge
Obtain From: Reward for Call of Gythian quest
Preferred Builds:
The Pearl of Ineffable Knowledge rewards Moze for landing consecutive hits with a significant amount of bonus gun damage. Moze can easily maintain this bonus with a combination of elemental status effects (except cryo), grenades with multiple instances of damage and regenerating magazine ammo.
