Borderlands 2 and TPS player here, question about legendaries

How and where do they drop? I know that they can appear in chests and vendors, and that Crawmerax can drop them. Can normal bosses drop them too? What about normal enemies? And lockers, trash piles, etc? Also, the legendaries aren’t set to drop from one source like in BL2 and TPS, right?

They can drop from anywhere. What needs to happen is that the gun has to spawn with the legendary part (Skullmasher barrel for the Skullmasher, Hellfire accessory for the Hellfire, Cyclops sight for the Cyclops, ect.). And none of them have a designated source*. Just have to get lucky.

*There are a few exceptions. Some unique guns like TK’s Wave or Ajax Spear can spawn with a legendary part on them. And most uniques have a drop source, so if you want a specific legendary, you can kind of get one by farming the boss with the unique as long as you know how to identify the legendary part. However, not all bosses respawn in this game, so some unique boss-exclusive guns you can only get one time.

Uniques that can spawn with a legendary part:
TK’s Wave (combat shotgun) can spawn with the Bulldog magazine.
Roaster (rocket launcher) can spawn with the Rhino barrel.
The Dove (repeater) can spawn with the Hornet accessory.
Bone Shredder (smg) can spawn with the Savior body.
Chiquito Amigo (repeater) can spawn with the Protector body.
Reaver’s Edge (semi-auto sniper) can spawn with the Penetrator barrel.
Boomstick (combat shotgun) can spawn with the Friendly Fire accessory.
Kryo’s Power (bolt-action sniper) can spawn with the Cyclops sight.
Ajax Spear (machinegun) can spawn with the Ogre accessory.

Not every Unique can spawn with a legendary part.
Sledge’s Shotgun, Knoxx’s Gold (not confirmed), Krom’s Sidearm, etc.

Anyway, some uniques gett a orange title, others don’t and those who don’t are only identified by parts or maybe a extra white line on the card.

I know. Did I word it improperly somehow?

derp on my side.

I added onto the post to avoid confusion for the OP.

With all of what ACN and 0taku mentioned, yes, you’re absolutely correct. Anything else you need? It sounds like you know what’s up.

The good thing about BL1 is that it rewards playing the game as opposed to farming one boss until your eyes bleed. Go open/smash/shoot everything.

The whole world is your playground. Legendary weapons can drop from anyplace in the game. BL1 is truly Diablo with guns.

No, thank you. Thanks to playing lots of BL2 I know the Borderlands games quite well. So far BL1 has been interesting, but not that different.

One thing to note is that enemies drops weapons they’re using, so sometimes when unexpectedly an enemy pops up who does a ton of damage to you then a guess can be made that at very least he have a powerful weapon you might want to loot off his corpse. You can also correctly gauge which weapon he’s using by noticing it’s special effects or by plainly looking at how it looks in enemy’s hands. However not always enemy drops his weapon, I’ve failed to get some legendaries for that.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen this. In my experience, if an enemy spawns with anything better than a trash white, he’ll drop it.

I think you’re right. I haven’t played the game many years and returned last week. The only example I actually remember somewhat is lance soldiers not dropping their eridian weapons after death, probably more than 1 time it happened iirc. However if it was because those had low/green rarity then I guess it shouldn’t be a reason for concern in any case. I have a feeling that I lost a legendary that way, but it’s just a feeling which I can’t reconstruct into a solid memory. So let me agree with you, because I’d be just happy if it’s all ok with legendary+ drops.

Yeah I’ve had one Badass shock trooper drop a Nemesis on me and my pal split screening… He was eating us alive with that thing. Nothing feels better than a world drop and BL1 is the best place for that to happen.
