I have died trying to loot health, due to my pet camping the item. My pet has pushed me to my death off the edge of a cliff (at least once so far). My pet routinely pushes me off markers while trying to press X to interact with NPCs, vending machines, vehicles, and any other interactive item you can list. It also provides no end of frustration while trying to loot items in general as it happily sits on top of things making it so I can’t interact with the things I’m desperately trying to interact with.
Look man, it was a fight, I was close to dying, I saw health, I pressed X, the pet was on it and I died. Auto loot or not, it happened. You can claim the pet didn’t cause it, fine -
It still doesn’t negate getting pushed off a cliff, being pushed off vending machines, desperately trying to pick up your items off the ground and having to run in circles as your pet dances on top of it. It is an aggravation. It would be a very welcome quality of life change, for the better.
yeeeaaah maybe exaggerated for effect lol, but the overall point still stands. How did they develop and test Fl4k for any length of time then ship the game with the pet’s core behavior being ‘follow the player until they stop, then relentlessly attempt to push past the player and come to rest directly in front of them, in exactly the space they would be viewing & picking up objects.’ It defies belief that this is such a difficult AI problem to solve. You have to kite your own pet, bc there’s also no way to command them to move to a specific area. So they have a special attack command that runs off of a cooldown, thats well and good, but they don’t have a basic attack command, they have no movement command, and you can’t even summon them back to you when they decide to run off fighting half the map on their own.
I may be wrong, but I also am not aware of a way to dismiss them if need be. I personally have not had immediate need for that (yet), but I soon will as trying to capture Technicals in TVHM is proving very difficult, and your pet laying into it doesn’t help you keep it healthy enough to drive back to a Catch A Ride.
The pets are feeling a bit less than robust to me. More like walking stat modifiers at this point. That can grief you… Just sayin’.
Some ppl have started respeccing and just never assigning a pet and building w no pet synergies. I don’t want to do that. Even if my pet is really just a mascot, my monkey is a stylish mascot and I want to keep him around. I just need him to not be aggressively annoying, becoming an actual hindrance.
yaaaaay. for fl4k mains this is quietly a massive QoL fix. too bad about the way they handled the LNT nerf but its nice to see this and to see rakks getting buffed.
As a followup for those who care (no one does) - We had shields that had to manually have their boosters picked up at the time this post was written. I had incorrectly assumed health was the same way. I had thought I had died as a result of my pet standing on top a vial of health. It was a “straw that broke the camels back” moment for me. That isn’t what happened. However, all the rest of the things I listed did. It was quite a relief when Gearbox changed pet behavior, I’m still appreciative of it every single time I play Fl4k.
I’m glad they changed the way you pickup boosters. But my pet is still a huge source of annoyance for me. Everything I’m trying to do something, it gets in the way. If it weren’t for the fact that FL4K is difficult to play without the pet buffs, I’d have ditched mine already.
I can’t even snipe without my pet ruining my shot, much less look through loot. For some reason, someone thought it would be a great idea to have the pet immediately stand over whatever you’re looking at…because…they hate pet classes?
Seriously, the number of issues that arise due to my pet’s behavior and the inability to control it, can’t be accidental. Someone had to purposely write code that says, “stand where the player’s reticle is pointing and start bashing the ground like an idiot, screeching the whole time.”
And despite the patch that was suppose to fix this stuff, my pets still push/block me. Not as much, but it’s enough to grate on my nerves. And why even have that stupid “pet” option? Because it still interferes with picking up loot and activating somethings. True, it’s not as bad, but it’s far from perfect. Or even fixed.
I absolutely love pet classes, they are my favorite in every game I have played. Except for BL3. I hate FL4K’s pets. For me, they are the worse thing about the game and I wish I could find a build that didn’t require them (without going back to non-mayhem mode).
A simple sit command would be so amazing for the pets. Make them stay in one place until told otherwise. The “running off to agro half the map” thing can be very annoying.
I’m glad I didn’t started FL4A on release! Was a close second contender…
But yeah… No wonder we get “free crit”. Only time the pet doesn’t run to aggro mobs I’m trying to sneak on is when I’m trying to snipe them. Even when it does run to them. Still managed to somehow get between me and the target.
And this standing on stuff you’re trying to look at. Gear, chest… anything. It’s attracted like a cat on keyboard.
