have seen this mentioned various times as well as seeing various complex equations over the years but have never seen a simple explanation for those of us who are basic neanderthal types lol.
for example - say i have a shock grenade that does 100 damage (to keep things simple)
i have 2 relics, one that gives 30% grenade damage and one that gives 15% shock damage.
on the surface, the former seems a no brainer - but is it as simple as that?
on top of all this of course we have critical damage for weapons which adds (or multiplies) a third layer to all of this.
if anyone can explain this or put a few simple equations to us, that would be great. i am sure it would help a fair few of us with skill and equipment choices for chasing our own meta
First. I havent seen any mention of these in BL3. Yetā¦
They probably exist and itās quite possible I just missed it.
To oversimplify it.
Let say we have two (2) 30% bonus. Base damage is 100.
For āadditiveā bonus itās quite simple. 30% times the base damage for each.
100 * 0.30 = 30
Two (2) 30% additive give you this.
100 + 30 +30 = 160
āMultiplicativeā work the same but is" added/multiplied" later in the formula. So if you have a 30% additive and 30% multiplicative. (Think Bone of the Ancient here. Thatās the most common example/use in BL2.)
100 *.0.30 = 30 ā> 100 + 30 = 130
That is your additive. The base on which your āmultiplicativeā will be applied.
Then you apply the multiplicative.
130 * .30 = 39 ā> 130 + 39 = 169
In other words⦠Multiplicative is "multiplied " on top of the āaddedā bonus.
These are small numbers and only two ābuffsā but you can see where itās going⦠up!
