Which tree to go in first?

I’m on a mission to get every character to level 72, only Krieg and Axton left.

I’m level 16, I went into the mania tree.

Is the hellborn tree any good? I always assumed it was bad, seeing that dots in this game are a joke -looks at cataclysm tree-

Where should I start?

Hellborn is actually extremely powerful. It’s great with guns and melee. However, you shouldn’t spec into it this early since the self-DoT can kill you easily at this stage.

Keep going down Mania for now, it will serve you well. Just be sure to have good guns for flying enemies… (f*cking buzzards…)

Avoid investing points into Silence the Voices until you get Release da Beast (lv31 app)

For downing buzzards, a Hyperion corrosive (no matter which rarity) shotgun should do it well.

Between the three, Mania is the worst choice considering that you’re only getting the to good part of it after reaching lvl31.

I disagree. I went full mania playing with two others when I was getting to know Krieg and I did okay. I used a meat COM to help with healing while rampaging and once I got RtB, I was in heaven… As long as you activate your skill whenever you’re close to your enemies and can kill one quickly, you should be good. Activating it too early or too late can cause issues though. If you’re using a roid shield, wait until your shield is almost empty, that way you get the roid damage as well as BXR’s damage.

you want to do mania. If you want to eventually want to do hellborn you need good gear for it.
as soon as you hit 31 it’s a game-changer. release the beast makes krieg practically invincible.
If you hellborn at a higher level with a good torch mod, a flame of the firehawk and perhaps a slag rubi/grog nozzle or something to slag enemies, you can pretty much just walk around and things die and you heal while they’re on fire, and you take less damage while you’re on fire.

But this applies to every character…

I guess you could say that but it is much more effective on a hellborn krieg because more healing while holding rubi/grog + heal while enemies are on fire, your shield stays down longer even if not being shot, and damage reduction while on fire, as well as more damage DoT’s.

I know he’s the most effective with it. I just don’t like when lots of people say to just use a FotFH and a Grog. Makes me sad.

(P.S. Please don’t take offense to this. I’m not trying to insult you.)

Mania is arguably the best. You can get the Law and Order shield/weapon combo which allows you to heal through melee and while it does somewhat cramp BxR it helps for when you’re on cool down. Once you get RtB it becomes a major league cakewalk. Grabbing a Love Thumper for some extra melee love does not hurt either.

While Hellfire is an outstanding tree unlike Mania you actually require gear to get by where as Mania you can run around without guns and shields if you want. Though once you get some decent gear and get deep enough into the tree Hellfire can be a beast.

I’m going to quote you again from another thread because it was solid advice on starting Krieg:

From my experience, Krieg heals better by actively using weapons and stacking elemental effect rather than passively healing with Grog and FotF. For example, healing is nearly instant with Hellfire or Infection and because the DoT is so high and Krieg is tailor made to stack with his effect chance, fire rate and magazine size bonuses.

In comparison, with an early bloodlust or hellborn played correcty you would doing great instead of just okay.

I thought that was pretty much how hellborn krieg was supposed to be used. just walk around and things die. the only problem with that method though is armored enemies.

I actually started in the Bloodlust tree first and hit Mania after finishing normal mode. At level 16 I was this:

And finished normal at this:

Now at OP8 I’m trying a Mania/Hellborn build…

I disagree. If you’re going to focus on gunplay, then bloodlust is a good tree. However, if you want to make the most of Krieg’s melee ability, mania is the superior choice even without RtB.

Corrosive Hyperion shotguns.
Highly effective in Hellborn builds.

I use a corrosive Conference Call or Butcher with loaders, buzzards, surveyors and armored psychos. Shotties were key in my quite suffered DP run.

A corrosive Maliwan Plasma Caster would be an interesting choice because splash damage and Elemental Empathy.

Plus, ■■■■, K is da shotgun badass.

I didn’t know conference call could have an element until just now. I’ve literally never seen/had one with an element before.

Yep. Every element except explosive.

I’m level 33 now, my brother got me some levels/eridium from the dragons in tvhm. I beat blood wing last night… should I get bloodsplosion or stay in the mania tree??
