"Why are they here?" Mission

So I have looked everywhere in search of how the “Why are they here?” mission connects to the story and I’ve come up with nothing. If you’re not aware of what this mission is, it’s an early mission in the main story in skag gully where you find two heavily distorted bandit Echo recorders. Is there any point to these recorders or is this actually just a stupid filler mission that I’m thinking a bit too hardly about?

Based on the face that shows on the screen while the audio plays, I believe the ECHOs are originally from Sledge (Nine-Toes’ boss).

I think the end mission notes have the translation of the messages when they’re mixed together. Yeah, it’s some message from Sledge.

I think it’s in-game. Hunt through your Echo mission log and the end slate should be there.

It’s Sledge. The mission translates a message he gives to his men, basically telling them to camp out in Skag Gully to make the people of Fyrestone scared.

I already knew/thought it was Sledge (the garbled speech has Sledge as the “speaker”) but having it confirmed is kinda cool.
