Randomly disappearing inventory items...?

I’m sure it’s just because i do so much obsessive farming and mule transferring, but does anyone else ever have items they KNOW they didn’t sell or transfer or grind disappear forever from their inventories?

I had it happen a week ago, a few days ago, and then just now with a mix of Orange and Purple guns.

SO FRUSTRATING!

There were some reports of this when the game launched, but I don’t remember seeing anything more about it. You could browse the tech support sections for details.

AFAIK, the obvious causes are accidentally selling all at a vendor, not noticing the sort order/category on the display, or doing things with over-stuffed backpacks and bank vaults. The only other thing that comes to mind is that sometimes in local co-op (at least on 360) the second player can fail to be properly signed in, meaning that anything transferred to them is NOT saved when that character/player/mule quits out.

There may still be other things going on. All I can say is, make sure you back up all your saves regularly, and make sure you also back up the profile data file in the TPS folder at the same time, since it contains some important stuff you don’t want to lose.

@VaultHunter101

Thanks, as always.

At the risk of asking a potentially stupid Question, how do i back my save up on the PS3?

When my PS3 dies (and it will!) Im so screwed!

I’m pretty sure all you need to do is copy the files onto a USB stick. There was a similar thread a while back about that. On 360 the location is system > storage > drive > games > tps (or bl2 or bl), select the file and choose copy. PS3 won’t be exactly the same, but it should be similar. I’m sure there’s a FAQ entry about backing up saves on PS3…

I had actually backed up all my main profile saves to a thumb drive back around Christmas.

The problem is, when you try to back up files from a different profile, the file names overlap.

So i would need a different thumb drive for each profile?

Unless…

Can you copy the saves from a thumb drive to, say, a folder on your computer, empty the thumb drive, copy another profile onto it, repeat?

Yes you can use a pc for that purpose. Just make sure you name each profile the same from one system to the next otherwise it can cause errors unless they are linked to a PSN account. Then they get earmarked by that account so that the system can tell what profile they belong to.

@StormPoet

A lot of work indeed but worth it to save all my 5 years of data!

used to do that regularly, back when i was endlessly grinding to level up characters and find gear.

saved my bacon when one lobby i stepped into had too much gear on the floor. i lost all equipped items b/c the game had no memory to load them. the save quit lost the gear.
