Secret/Easter Egg Hunting Time! (SPOILERS)

Well, I finally did it (TVHM Mode):

Which means it’s time for me to start the easter egg and secret hunting! As we all know, Gearbox looooves to stuff their game full of secrets and easter eggs galore and I looooove to look for them all (even if they don’t exist coughCrystaloferousTheInvinciblecough). So Ima go ahead and use this thread as my hub for shooting ■■■■ and throwing out ideas for various secrets, potential secrets, and red herrings (which, it turns out, isn’t the correct password to accessing a vault key).

So, without further ado, time to throw idea out and see what we come up with. I apologize in advance for the poor picture quality. I am a PC player, but I’m lazy and like to access this site only from my phone.

1. The Ascension Bluff Eridian Door

This first one is likely the most famous of the unknowns in this game. This eridian door:

Located here:

And this eridian door:

Appear to house an area that looks like a boss arena:

I’ve looked up other peoples’ quests to find the answer to this area and found some people were able to access the arena. By the looks of it, the first door (which is at a higher elevation) is the entrance.

This is most definitely a boss room. Hopefully for an Invincible (I really wanna fight new raid bosses already). There appears to be no known way to access the area and trigger this boss. I’ve looked around and found no lever, no button, no nothing. I’ve played all the eridian writings in front of the door and still nothing. I’m wondering if the answer is external to this area. It seems such a weird place to put an eridian secret: the Ascension bluff. Any ideas?

!!!UPDATE!!!

Youtuber Glitching Queen posted the following video showing what boss may lurk behind the door and a potential step to summoning it/opening the door.

I’m using this as a stepping stone right now. It looks to me like this varkid animation isn’t supposed to trigger until the door is opened and it may fly in there and turn into vermivorous. We’ll see.

2. The Tannis Buttons

I’m sure we all encountered these when trying to progress the story in Tannis’ lab. If you press a green button, the pattern changes. Below are the 10 possible combinations:

Additionally, there is occasionally a noise that accompanies it, a double beep that can be in one of two tones. This does not appear to be associated with anything in the area and may very well be a red herring. I doubt it (or at least, I hope not), but as far as everything I’ve tested goes, that isn’t off the table.

3. The Sanctuary Interactables

Around Sanctuary, there are several button and stuff you can press. I’ve counted 4 so far.

One at the back of the engines:

One at the upstairs pipes between the mayhem pedestals and the hallway to the bridge:

One at the circulation unit downstairs from the previous one:

And lastly, one in the engine control room:

These ones are likely just easter eggs on their own as they cause BALEX to react in one way or another. Still, this IS Gearbox we’re talking about, so there may be more buttons and there may be an order that leads to an easter egg.

EDIT: Aight Vault Hunters. Figured i’d add more to this Sanctuary stuff to see if we can throw out some ideas. Here’s the blueprint for sanctuary:

And on said map, we have letters. A through E. Could be a sequence of some sort to trigger something? I haven’t got it worked out yet.

B:
C:
D:
E:

Additionally, there are two known cameras on the map. One outside Marcus’s room and one outside Moxxi’s room. They break if you slide in front of them.

If you notice anything more on Sanctuary, please point it out and @princeofnight117 and we’ll look into it with you.

That’s about everything I’ve found that I’m looking into. Feel free to add thoughts on them or even bring up more, as I’m sure I missed A LOT!

Happy Hunting!

What about the strange red and black interactable little column thing at the beginning of Promethea and maybe elsewhere?

Those are for the 6 Eridian Proving Grounds: Ghostlight Beacon, Gradient of Dawn, Precipice Anchor, The Hall Obsidian, The Skydrowned Pulpit, and Wayward Tether. The become accessible after the story is complete.

Thanks! Although, I’m on PC, so I only really get a personal sense of accomplishment. I’ve been dying to go easter egg hunting, but really wanted to get everything out of the way first so that I could know what is part of a side quest and what is actually something of interest.

Have fun and please keep us updated!

Oh, I might have one for you actually!

In Ascension Bluff, there is a high clifftop Bandit camp in the middle of the map (Pitterpunk Camp or a similar name) with a hut whose door is opened by sniping a somewhat close by target.

Inside the hut is a dead Bandit, two money skull chests, a painting of an oil can, and a safe with an actual oil can on it.

No one seems to know how to open the safe!

@Epoa

Maybe not quite an Easter egg but I assume you have found the girl and her three dragons (a la GoT)? I kind of giggled when I found and killed them.

@FlamesForAll I’ll look into that. It may be part of a side quest, it may not be, but if other people don’t know what it’s for, it may be worth a looksee.

@javajaws that’s cute. Where at? I do recall something of that ilk, but I don’t remember where.

It was in a cave somewhere I think on eden-6 that’s all i recall offhand.

@FlamesForAll yeah, that was part of a side quest.

Alright!

Thank you, sir.

In the map Konrad’s Hold, next to the entrance to the slaughter arena, there is a similar door with a quest. In like the second room or so, next to one of the statues there was a locked ammo chest. I dont remember it being used in the quest so it might be something. The area before and in there is riddled with varkids, and the secret boss being a varkid itself, might be something. I dont have everything done so the chest might be unlocked for others.

Funnily enough, I was actually looking at that earlier today and it was included on an earlier writeup of my post. I removed it after watching some videos of people on that quest, “The Demon in the Dark” and noticed it was unlocked for them, but the video maker always passes over it. I’ve been waiting to find someone with that mission so I can see what’s in that chest.

But yeah, now that we have evidence that the varkids are important, I’m going to relook at that. I actually originally thought it was part of the Tannis buttons.

It’d be funny if everything turned out to be linked…

Ooh, actually, @FlamesForAll, could you help with that? I understand you aren’t that far into the game, but basically know all the spoilers for it because of all the time you spend on the forums. When you get to Konrad’s Hold, you’ll reach a point with Varkids. If you take a right and drop down, you should see a cave with the side quest “The Demon in the Dark.”

During that quest, look for this chest:

Crack that puppy open and see what’s inside! My assumption is an Echo relevant to the quest but not necessary for the quest, but you never know.

Number one is definitely a boss arena. Here’s a pic of the treasure room for after you beat the boss.

I imagine the chest will be right between those braziers.

Nice find!

I tried shooting the door with the gun gun a buncha times, but that didn’t work. Womp womp.

We’re so close! We have everything but the trigger to open the door.

There’s a button puzzle similar to Flinter’s puzzle in the Bloodshot Stronghold.

In Lectra City’s underground section there’s a side room and hallway. The buttons are in the side room and there are 5 or so TVs, again it looks like the binary puzzle that Flinter had.

I can’t say I truly figured out any of the sequences, but I’m stubborn and by bashing my forehead into the buttons for a few minutes I was able to open the door and reveal a badass psycho called One Punch.

His name is One Punch.

I don’t advise letting him punch you.

Lol, yeah, he drops a sweet shotgun, too. The trick is to flip all the dials, knobs, and switches so the tvs around the door turn on. I believe the correct input is the left interactable, the second from the left twice, then the far right, but I can’t quite remember.

I’d recommend farming him for that shotgun, tbh. It’s really powerful.

EDIT: as an aside, do yah think I should be adding on to the original post with all the secrets and easter eggs that have been found that require at least one step beyond “go to this location,” like One Punch?

I will do so!

Great and fun idea, thank you!
