The +5% rare drop relic

Does this also help with things like vending machines and blue rare mission items, like for more rare prefixes?

Gearbox’s description of it made me think it was only involved in the roll for rarity (involving weapons) called during enemy deaths.

What do you mean by rare prefixes? Ones you don’t see often by virtue of the particular part selection (in which case the answer is no, sorry).

for example I’ve been farming the kitten from Moxxi and it seems like the swift prefix is more rare than the others… hoping it would help out there. I finally got it and had the relic on. Not sure if it helped but I’d like to think it did… either way I got it but I’m sure I would’ve at some point

No. The relic only affects the odds of getting a green over a white. It’s basically useless.

And it doesn’t affect parts at all (which is where you get the prefix from.)

The way they phrase it… “Rare loot”… It makes us players think of hard to get items like Deadly Bloom or Lyuda. But no. It literally reduces the chance of getting a “Common” (White) item and replaces it with “Uncommon” (Green). That is all. Ever since people realized this, almost nobody uses it. A relic with cooldown properties is infinitely better.

Just what everyone else said. It only increases your chances of getting a green drop instead of a white drop. Literally nothing else.

It’s useful about as long as the Gearbox sniper rifle is. Makes things a tiny bit easier for your first half-dozen levels in your normal mode playthrough, but then replace it as soon as you get any other relic.

You don’t get any relics for a while anyway, so I usually keep it equipped until then.

It’s an item that you tolerate for the first playthrough before ditching as soon as you get another relic. The 5% would be great if it lowered the chances of getting whites and greens for a chance at blues or purples which are quite decent and perhaps even make it useful for farming unique items but that is just wishful thinking.

Considering you have it alongside the Gearbox weapons which are decent save the SMG it is a rather redundant item.

…quoting the Gearbox article on the relic’s function , “The Vault Hunter Relic makes all higher rarities in the game more likely to occur by simply reducing the weight of the common pool.” It doesn’t just enhance green rarity. “Farming” for a mission reward weapon like the Kitten (by quitting/restarting until you get the part set you’re after) won’t be affected by the relic because the weapon isn’t being rolled from an enemy death.
