My theory about EOS Glitching

I think what causes EOS to glitch is having another character present and then leaving in the chamber before the boss area (the room with the vending machines).

I just fought him twice and, after bringing in my mules to unload all the gear from the previous fight, saved & quit and reloaded rather than just going straight into the fight like I had previous times.

If that makes sense.

Glitch free twice in a row doing that.

@joe_king Please send this to the team, see if he’s right.

The crashing happens to me anywhere in that arena. Split screen or Co-op during menu transitions (e.g., pausing the screen, pulling up character menu, saving and quitting, etc.). I’ve already submitted a support ticket to Gearbox, maybe you should too and keep it on their radar.

@FlamesForAll-

I’ll def pass this along. Can you list out the specific steps you took to reproduce the glitch? Feel free to be as detailed as possible. Thx!

I’ve had so many glitches in this fight (3 legendaries lost due to crashes). I’m on PS3. Sorry but can’t reproduce on demand. Crashes mainly on multiplayer after boss death & weapons drop. In single-player, main issue is the second form (EOS) not returning after he disappears for the first time (once the Holograms come out and start talking). I think this second problem may be linked to the speed at which he’s damaged – if fast then less problem.

Really sorry to hear that. I know how frustrating that can be. I passed this along the other day and if anyone can find a way to repro and then pass along those steps, that would give the team a head start. It’s not required of course, but is always a huge help.

@CDR_Shepard

Did you have a mule toon join you to take gear off your hands before going into the fight?

Like, you get into the boss chamber, your inventory is full (or full-ish) from whatever you did before the boss, or because you had just killed the boss and his loot filled your inventory before you save/quit/reload, so, in the Vendor room before the boss, you bring in a mule toon or two to lighten your load, and then immediately go into the boss fight without saving/quitting/reloading after the mule visits?

Did that make sense?

I havent had the boss fight glitch since i started saving/quitting/reloading after having my mules join me in the Vendor room, and that’s been 6 straight fights glitch free.

On a related note what’s with the reported glitch of him repeatedly firing Rockets? Is this really a glitch or is this the result of destroying torrets? The last battle I had he was relentless by the 3rd charge, there was no way I could have defeated him without the shield of ages, even then with Jack I was down every two minutes, still managed to win.

Just performed a bit of an experiment:

1 - loaded my toon (who is sitting in the vendor room outside the EOS/Eclipse chamber

2 - went in a fought the boss. No glitch.

3 - Saved / quit / reloaded after fight. This time, before starting the fight, brought in a couple of mule toons to remove loot.

4 - Went in a fought the boss without saving and quitting after the mules showed up. Glitch (health fully regen’d along with shield, Helios form would not respawn, Holograms just kept talking).

5 - Saved / quit / reloaded. Went in and fought the boss without bringing in a mule toon. No glitch.

6 - Saved / quit / reloaded. Brought in mule toons. Transferred gear. Immediately went into fight. Same glitch.

7 - Save / quit / reload. No mule, fight. Glitch.

8 - Save / quit / reload. Load mule. Gear transfer. Don’t enter fight.

9 - Save / quit / reload. Fight. No glitch.

10 - Save / quit / reload. Mule visit. Go into fight. Glitch.

11 - Save / quit / reload. No mule, go fight. No glitch.

My theory is that, since the boss loads IMMEDIATELY upon loading the area, unlike, say, RK5, where you have to go down the elevator before the boss loads, any extra toons entering change the parameters of the fight?

Maybe the game does not want a solo player to defeat EOS and get the greater quality / amount of loot?

NOTE: This was all in Online mode, but playing solo only.

I won’t be fighting EOS again for a while as my current character is now dangerously over-leveled due to this research!

UPDATE:

Spent the last couple hours farming EOS with my Wilhelm, now in TVHM, and confirmed that, on my PS3 at least, if you have another toon with you in the room before the fight, and you don’t save & quit before joining the fight solo, his final form will NOT reappear, just an endless loop of the holograms talking,
