Ideas for new equipment in Borderlands 3

As to why I said “equipment” and not “loot” in the titel is because I’d like gearbox to add new equipment slots. The ideas I have for those are first and formost: melee weapons.

I honestly think that weapons with bayonettes are pretty boring, and most of the times useless. Bayonettes are essentially a prefix loss for the weapon unless your playing as a melee character (which most people are not) and even then the melee attachment can become useless depending on what character you’re playing as (Brick in BL1 and Krieg in BL2). I think it would be more fun to have different melee weapons that can drop from enemies with different effects. I enjoy playing melee a lot, and actually caring for loot when playing melee would be kind of nice as well.

The weapons would of course come from different manafacturers, and the weapons could have different amounts of melee damage and attack speed (adding a new stat to the game). They could also include different effects depending on the manufacturer or if it’s legendary/unique.

Some ideas I have for basic melee weapons:
Dahl: short sword, standard and very balanced in melee damage and attack speed
Jakobs: lumber axe: huge damage, very slow attack speed
Vladof: dagger, low damage, high attack speed
Maliwan: energy katanas, lower base damage, average attack speed, melee attacks will deal bonus elemental damage and have a chance to apply elemental effects
Bandit: buzz axe, average damage, slow attack speed, chance to apply a bleed effect to the target (similar to athena’s bleed effects)
Torgue: morning star, ? (I don’t know what the effect would be, probably something with explosive damage, but since morning stars are badass they fit with the most badass company in the borderlands universe)
Tediore: small hammer, less damage, moderate attack speed, grants the wearer incresed magazine size and gun damage

The legendary effects could be completely wicked, just like other legendaryeffects. I have an idea for a bandit melee weapon where instead of performing normal melee attacks, you’d thjrow the buzz axe and it’d spin around like a boomerang, hitting enemies in its oath (even multiple times) and then returning to you.

The other equipment slot I wanted to mention is: first aid kits.
For a time now, we’ve relied heavily on moxxi weapons for our survivability. Even though it wasn’t pretty much mandatory to use 'em in TPS as it was in BL2 a lot of people defaulted back to them anyways. I was very upset when they decided to keepthe moxxi weapons in TPS even though they had told us pre-release that they were to be removed. I think that they should be removed for good in BL3 and be replaced with first aid kits instead.

All characters have some form av survivability, and any character can survive only using it to be fair. The only problem with the character survivabilty is that most of the times it’s survivabilty “over time” and most players want more bursty “save-your-ass” kind of survivabilty, and that’s why a lot of people use moxxi weapons. That’s why we should use first aid kits instead. They would work similarly to grenades as to where you have ammo for it and the first aid kits that you equip modify it in different fashions. I don’t know in what ways each manufacturer would modify them, but it could be things like “gives you immunity to a specific element for a few seconds after use” or “restore percentages of your shield instead of your health” or other things.

What do you guys think of these ideas? I think it would add more diversity to the game and would give us more new things to farm for and I definately think that having new changeable melee weapons would be a lot cooler instead of having a signature melee weapon for each character that does bugger-all.

Melee weapons could be cool, although as you said, for 99% of the community it would be a wasted feature.

I don’t like first aid kits, your just replacing one problem with another problem. What you’ve basically described is transfusion grenades, but faster. In BL1, basically every character used an Alacritous Panacea and Transfusion grenades, in BL2/TPS ppl used Moxxie Weapons. This new healing item will just be the standard in the new game.

If i was in the postion, I would just add a passive health regeneration mechanic, clearly everyone is just using them anyway, why dumb down gameplay because of it.
