Lost loot machine: how does it work?

So I get the premise of this but it’s always empty so…what is up with that? I’m level 21 and have never once seen it contain anything. Does it only work later in the game? Is there something you have to do for it to work?

I don’t know but it keeps spitting out the same story reward at level 1 for me every time I use it.

You have to pick it up. Keep or sell. Then the machine refills

Pick what up? It’s always empty for me. There is nothing to pick up.

Weapons which you don’t pick up, will be sorted by good to bad and the top ones in the list will be put into the machine. Pretty great, works everytime for me. Farmed for legendarys and after i got to sanctuary i had a machine full of legendarys.

OK but did you have to do anything for it to work? I got to Sanctuary long ago but still have never seen a single thing in there of any quality.

The Lost Loot machine fills up with the best loot you leave behind. If you touch the loot, then drop it, it will not go to the loot machine.
If you open a chest, and there is a legendary or purple, and some blues, but don’t pick them up, they will end up in the loot machine.

Hi, if you picked Co-Op-etition mode, the lost loot will not pick anything up. It only works if you’re instanced.

*according to a video I watched

Good point ^^^
I forget there are now two different modes with different mechanics.

I picked the standard BL loot but I’m just playing solo anyway. I guess that is co-opetition? So I guess that is my issue.

You have to be on cooperative mode. So you see your own loot. Also it only picks up blues purples and golds that you never picked up on a map.

So to easily test, make sure you are on cooperation mode. Then open a few boxes in Pandora. Do not bother picking up the crappy blues. Then go to Sanctuary. Those blues you never touched should be in the lost loot.

Yeah, in classic mode, the game assumes the possibility of other players, and if that’s the case, if it sent things to the loot bin, it would either have to pick and choose who got what…or duplicate the best stuff.

Yeah, it makes sense now I guess. I had not really thought of the different modes since I was just playing solo. Thanks for the replies everyone.

So I have changed my setting to cooperative but the lost loot machine is still always empty. Doesn’t seem to do anything at all.

@Sidartha

We are in literally the exact same boat.

I even switched to Cooperation mode last night then played a lot today.

Nothing in it, ever.

Admittedly there wasn’t much loot I didn’t pick up as I’m always keeping up on top of my selling.

So maybe the Lost Loot Machine is more like the Moot Loot Machine if you’re obsessively OCD and a gear hoarder / sorter.

Yeah that could be it. I’m a bit OCD about picking up blue and better stuff to at least sell. Moot Loot Machine. I like it.

Cheers!

It’s a cool idea.

Maybe more geared toward mayhem levels and multiple players.

Honestly, the LLM has already been so great to me, I almost missed an alien barrel hype shotty!

There’s been a couple of times it gave me loot that I specifically picked up and sold. So I got to sell it again.

The LLM only stores Blue, Purple, and Orange weapons. It will never store White or Green. I’m guessing you just always pick up Blue+ off the ground so you will never find anything in there if you do that.

It’s mostly only used if stuff falls off a cliff and you can’t get to it or if you’re backpack is full and you don’t pick up something.
Or you can use it to easily give money to one of your secondary characters. You can farm bosses at high level with your main and let the loot lie on the ground then load up your 2nd character and take the loot from the LLM and sell it to buy SDU’s fast.
