Guardian ranks hard cap

Hello all, I am loving the game but have a question about the Guardian rank hard caps. Thanks to data miners and the modding community we know that the Guardian system has a hard cap of 15% on any given category.
We were told through multiple articles at the time of its announcement that it would have INFINITE progression, and while it will take a long time to get everything to 15%, thats not infinite. Plus, having caps makes it so eventually everyone will be the same and there is no specialization into the three trees to be had. Is there any chance that these caps will be removed?
Otherwise loving the game.

I’d like to know this as well, because if it’s true, then the whole Guardian System just became totally lame to me…

The reason why I loved this new system over BA ranks, was that you can earn ranks by killing stuff instead of doing dumb challenges, and that it actually gave you a reason to keep playing after reaching the level cap and getting all your favorite gear with said character…

Instead of adding a cap, just make so that bonuses start granting very small bonuses after a certain threshold… That, or let us reset the Guardian Rank.

It may be possible that if such a cap exists it may be an undocumented stopgap measure to limit how much people can break the game with known exp glitches. It wasn’t long before people started posting glitches to earn millions of exp per hour.

if the guardian rank had no cap you would just become way overpowered eventually and there would be no challenge even in the hardest difficulty you would 1 shot everything with 600% gun dmg. this is what they are avoiding.

^This. It would be asking for too much, and then players would come back to the forums and complain about other players killing EVERYTHING in 1 hit, no cooldowns, super accuracy, a million health…just like a cheat program.

Well the diminishing returns of the cap less BA system in BL2 shows that getting to even a 100% boost was very time consuming.

The issue I have is not with their being a cap, but that there are articles in which gearbox referred to it as an endless progression system. By capping it you are giving the exact opposite of what you announced. That is dishonest.

Personally I enjoy the paragon system of Diablo and the idea of a similar system was a major motivator behind my purchase.

There is nothing wrong with a cap had they said that since the beginning. And if there is to be a cap, 15% seems way to low. Personally think it should be 50% to offset some of the Mayhem modifiers

in a few months they will have UVHM and 80 cap. there is some work to be done on the guardian rank before that, maybe not infinite but once the updates drop they will be adding another 2 at least. so 6 char lvl 80 and grinding for perfect gear at cap. thats some serious hours.

My guess is that they will raise the cap once a certain number of stats for a certain amount of the playerbase reaches the cap, or they will raise it when future DLC drops.

It takes a LOT of Guardian tokens to reach the cap, so they probably don’t expect anyone to reach the cap anytime soon. I’ve been dumping a ton of tokens into Luck and I’m only at 12.31 or something. I probably have to put another 20 or so into Luck before I hit the cap, which at the end of the day would probably equate to around 80 tokens, which is quite a lot.

I really hope they redesign the Guardian Ranks later in the DLCs and introduce true infinite progression.

Or they might be trying to figure out a countermeasure to current exp glitching before allowing those ranks to raise more. Without the glitching exp I don’t think people would have discovered a cap yet.

Ooof, 15%? I noticed it slowed down significantly after 12.5% so it will take me awhile, but that’s not cool. If I sink as many hours in to 3 as I did 2, I want to be able to get some of those stats up to 30-40% just for the lols and see what new builds open up; you know, the items that would normally suck.

Also, why is vehicle damage in there? Has a single person purposefully picked it outside of their OCD compelling them to keep everything even? Where’s elemental damage and proc chance?

@ around 14.90 it’s starts to cost around 3-5 ranks per .01 increase, @14.99 it’s a bottomless pit that just eats ranks.

It would be interesting to be able to reset Guardian ranks and respend the tokens at a Respec machine so we could try out different attributes being increased, like fire rate, or recoil reduction, or shield cap, stuff like that.

That is one of the most disappointing things I have ever read.

It’s painful, and the diminishing returns are so heavy and pile on so late that there is no real choice, everyone will sort of average everything out and slowly creep to completion.

I say slowly I’m nearly done.

level a skill to 13% and move on

I don’t even go that far. 12-12.5% is where I stop. Just not worth it when there are other things I have that aren’t even at 5%

There are way to overcome that, though.

Not sure if you played The Elder Scrolls Online or Diablo 3, but these games have a similar system to the Guardian Ranks and in both games, the enemies scales off your character’s stats.

All they need to do, is make so that enemies scales with the player’s Max Health, Shield Recharge Rate, Shield Recharge Delay, Gun Damage, Vehicle Damage, Melee Damage and Grenade Damage after a certain threshold, while stuff like Fire Rate, Critical Damage, Accuracy, FFYL Movement Speed, FFYL Duration, Luck, Reload Speed and Reduced Recoil should have a cap for obvious reasons.

This way the game doesn’t needs to enforce a complete cap on Ranks and you can have an endless progression system.

Are you really progressing if enemies scale off all your guardian rank stats, making the guardian rank stats useless?

Yes and no. This is part of endless progression systems, because it will always make sure you’re busy doing something.

There needs to be a certain degree of enemy scalling, or else you’ll just reach a point where you could oneshot a boss with a white pistol.

Which is why endless progression is not for people that wants to play the game, beat it and move to another game… I personally like games with endless progression, because you’ll always have a reason to kill enemies, even if you had all items farmed already.
