Moze Shield build problem

Ok I don’t have a novel to explain this situation so I apologize for the lack of content here. I’m running a Shield of Retribution build and sitting on roughly 6k shield and 1 health at lvl 33 (my gun damage is insane). My problem is with a specific type of enemy (there may be two). I know psychos are one type. I get one shotted from their axe leap. Now is this a combat mechanic or are they possibly using electric attacks? I’m trying to prioritize my targets and I don’t know whats hitting me. It’s very rare for me to have this happen so it has to be something i’m not seeing. Thank you in advance for and tips or suggestions.

Some attacks do a massive amount of damage, usually from bosses or melee enemies that rarely attack at range. For most characters this isn’t a big deal because these hits will trigger health gate if you’re only getting hit occasionally, but with high levels of thin red line you’ve sacrificed that defensive mechanic.

The solution is to either keep thin red line at 2 points to maintain health gate or get used to the idea that specific attacks have to be dodged.

I didn’t think the trade off would be that dramatic but I was definitely wrong. I’ve started boosting max shields and my health sits at like 500, haven’t gotten one shotted since. I’m actually pretty happy this situation arose, lets me know adds have more strategy than previous titles. Oh and Jakobs is the bees knees. (yep i went there)

That seems like poor skill design since Borderlands has always based encounter balance around health gates. Making it so a player is incapable of having a health gate by just selecting a skill is not good.

Having no type of health gating for shields is weird. I can get oneshot with 30k shields…
Better adjust damage numbers instead of having that weird health gating mechanic…

Designing around health gate is part of what made high OP levels in BL2 not fun. What’s the point of a shield if you’re just gonna health gate all day?

Exactly and you feel that when playing with Shield… get rid of health gating, if gearbox really needs oneshot mechanics, adjust the damage to percentage of player hp/shield or whatever
