Taking damage through shield. Bug?

So I’m running a Moze glass cannon build in mayhem 2-3. I have 1HP and 20k shields.

However. I am constantly being insta killed by things for no apparent reason.

I have been testing different builds and enemies and other things for hours now and have come up with no conclusion.

It doesn’t matter what enemy type I’m fighting. What type of attack or element it is, for no reason at all some damage penetrates my shield and instantly kills me.

At first I thought maybe it was something with the health gate, so I reduced my maximum reserved HP to %40. This did not solve the issue.

I thought maybe it was reflect damage (playing in mayhem) and it still killed me even while I was doing nothing but standing there.

What the hell is going on? This seems totally broken. Can someone please help.

It doesn’t. I read the modifiers and didn’t see anything about it.

There’s a reflect damage modifier and I suspected that it may be the culprit however I still died even when I wasn’t even attacking

Ive noticed this, I was fighting an annoited at the time and thought it was unique to them.

I think it’s a bug. I’ve literally spent the last three hours trying different enemies. Different builds. Different mods. Health gates. Elemental damage types. Enemy types. Everything I can think of.

It appears to be completely random.

The only thing I have noticed is I’m more likely to die after crouching or sliding (I don’t have any slide modifiers on my artifact)

I saw it too but only at the beginning. Maybe random bug?

Are you using the shield that projects itself when you’re crouching?

I can confirm this one, this bug seems to appear when you are wearing shield with “PROJECTED” modifier (projected shield when crouching) even if you are not using it. I had the same when I started to die instantly on Mayhem 2 having 1 HP due to Deathless artifact and full 40K of shields. After I’ve changed shield to one without PROJECTED modifier issue seemed to disappear.

Made an account just to say that I this is happening to me at lvl 5 and the above fix is not working. Some help would be nice up against this turret with no shields xD

Ok so i figured out the projection shields pretty much ruin the game because they cause the other shields to be non existent so you gotta keep the projection ones on and just not crouch all the time

I also get insta-gibbed from time to time, shields intact. And I don’t use a projection shield. Seems like a bug.

If anyone is still having this issue. Just try this. Quit to main menu. (I didn’t have a “projected” shield on either, just a normal high capacity shield) Then press “continue game” and it totally fixed my issue; shield started to absorb the damage again

I believe i’ve figured out the issue (at least for myself). I have the skill in Moze’s SoR tree which takes health when reloading in exchange for incendiary damage. This skill will activate even if you cancel a reload, which I do a lot because i’m tossing infinite grenades and trying to regenerate ammo. So if i’m cancelling reload after reload quickly, my health is very quickly depleting to 1.
So it seems the game considers “reloading” to be when you start the animation, rather than when you’ve loaded the clip. This is possibly to nerf anointed magazine skills for Moze? It would make sense

On graveward, when he tilts the ground, sliding with projected shield, insta kills me without taking any damage. The corrosive jello balls are just being spawned so its not them…

The same thing happened to me. It wasn’t happening before until I equipped a Front Loader (I also have Thin Red Line). I think it happens when he creates a line of flames at the center of the platform.

The projected shield is one of the issue, any projected shield don’t cover you.

As for the random OS, I have another theory :

Some enemy hit so hard they basically OS anything. Health is “hard protected”, meaning that, without bug, you can never get OS, you can at most lose x% of your health in one hit. Shield is not.

It’s especially obvious when you compare a deathless and a rough rider build.

  • You have a lot more shield point with deathless than HP with rough rider
  • Small continuous attack kill you effecively in rough rider, but are laughable with shield
  • Big attack usually only take half of your hp off in rough rider, but often OS or near OS you with deathless

I don’t think the projected shield is a factor. Here’s what happened: I have Thin Red Line and Loaded Dice. I equipped Front Loader because I wanted to see if it would increased my damage due to lower health %. I ended up at 1 hp, similar to Deathless. I killed GW at the center of the platform and my character would instantly just go into FFYL. There was no animation of him doing any attacks. It’s only happened twice, so I’m not sure.

When he flip the plateform, you’re considered to be sliding, and hence your shield is considered projected. Might be an issue

So could it be that reserved health is like missing health and 1 hp means u r not above healthgate?
