Here, is an extremely long post analyzing Angel, Handsome Jack, And his wife. I am applying knowledge of human anatomy, psychology, and interactions between characters to analyze each of the said characters in the borderlands. Lets start, with Angel. This is a major work in progress.
Angel
* Chapter 1: Who is Angel? The Introduction.
Angel is the Daughter of Handsome Jack and an Unamed mother. She was locked up since a very young age, by her own father, Jack (John), when she had done something to her mother, mentioned by Handsome Jack during the “Where Angels fear to tread” quest.
Race: Human/Siren
Gender: Female
Hair: Black
Eyes: Blue
Year of birth ~ 2850-2854
Approx. Age ~ 19-23
* Chapter 2: Early life
^Angel as a child^
When she was just wee little girl, she had gotten siren powers. I say gotten because in the picture, you can see that the younger Angel has no tattoos. This may be just a mistake on the artist part, but maybe not. Around the time she had obtained her siren powers, which judging from the picture, would be about 4-6 years old. Around that time, Angel most likely was scared by her powers, which would make sense in a problem like this, as a sudden change in a childs environment can affect their behavior in certain ways. Handsome Jack mentions that Angel had done something horrific to his wife when she was a girl. Angel, would certainly not be able to control her powers at such a young age, and had either wounded her mother. Jack saddened by the loss of his first wife, had locked Angel way so that she could not harm others.
* Chapter 3: Her Siren Abilities. Part one, Data and Microwave manipulation.
Many people are correct, when they say that Angel’s ability is the manipulation of technology, they are only giving a fraction of the answer. Throughout the Borderlands story line, Angel is able to communicate with the player. Jack, wanting to keep her and her abilities a secret, and even he didn’t know the whole truth about her abilities, but he did know she could manipulate data. She most likely didn’t have an echo, as the security on those would not be enough to protect the secret. So, Jack had the An631 instead, where he could monitor the words exchanged with Angel and the vault hunters. All data on microwaves has a different frequency. Angel, is able to change the frequency of the waves, therefore changing the data stored on the waves
But Greasy_Broccoli, surely Jack wouldn’t let Angel be in the 4N631 without him. Well, no she didn’t need to be in the 4N631, because her abilities allowed her to manipulate microwaves ( No i’m not talking about the microwave ovens). Now, if you are asking yourself what Microwaves have to do with her abilities, well, Angel controls them. Microwaves have everything to do with data transfers. Data is transferred through air/whatever the hell else by microwaves, that’s how she is able communicate with the vault hunters. Each microwave has a different frequency, and Angel can either change the frequency, therefore changing the data being sent on each wave, and she can even direct the wave to go where she wants it to.
But Greasy_Broccoli, again, how can she do that? She cant touch the waves! It is similar to how Lilith glows orange before she delivers an attack. When Lilith does that, she is using her powers, with only her thoughts. Angel does the same thing, but with microwaves. She uses her thoughts to manipulate and process the waves.
Broccoli, there is a plot hole, if she controls them with her thoughts, then how does Jack know she is talking to the vault hunters in borderlands 2? Good Question. She send the controls the microwaves, BUT they must pass through something in order for the audio to play, like the said vault hunters echo. Jack would be also be able to intercept these waves, with the technology of Hyperion.
* Chapter 4: Her Siren Abilities. Part two, Digi-structing from the flip-side
During the quest “Where Angels fear to Tread” we see Angel digistrucing ammo crates for the hero, how does she do this may you ask? Well, when we digi-struct something, see don’t see numbers, but rather the elements Tungsten, Iron, Nickel, an Strontium. This has no relation to Angels digistructing, as it is also shown by other things that will Digi-struct. But wait, when Angel did the Digi-structing, she didn’t use a machine, she used her hands! There is a law stating that Mass can neither be destroyed nor created. That’s true, Angel doesn’t create nothing out of something. So where does she get the materials? From that other dimension. It’s safe to assume that each sirens abilities are linked to an alternate dimension. It is unknown whether the Sirens all go to the same dimension. That is where Angel digi-structs from. Lilith, walks there, Maya sends there, and Angel, takes from.
But Greasy, i have a question, how does she get the stuff from there? She gets it from there by her tattooed arm, similar to how may uses her arm to send things there. She streams the things needed/wanted from the other dimension. She could probably create objects more massive than those ammo crates she made, but it would take more effort, like how even when hoped up on eridium, Lilith needed more power in order to use her stronger powers, same with Angel, the more she digi-structed, the more juice she would need to do it.
* Chapter 5: Possible Results of past events
Isolation, more specifically social isolation can have negative effects on the mind of any person, but when you are a child, isolated from the outside world, immediately after a traumatic experience, it will have huge negative effects on your brain.
Social Isolation - The feeling of loneliness and fear of other. People with this disease have no one to turn to in times of personal crisis.
This is one of the things than Angel may have suffered from, judging from the events that were suffered in her past. People with this disease purposefully avoid social contact, but Angel was forced upon this condition by her father at a young age. This was immediately after the wound or killing of her mother. The effects this would have on a child is a tragedy to some. To Jack, this was a solution to keep her and others out of harms way. While it is unknown what Angel saw during her lock up time, but it is assumed that she may have even been locked away for years. Being locked up with little human interact would then lead to hallucinations. There is no evidence that things were so bad, that Angel had seen things not there, but there is evidence that she had interactions with her father Jack during her imprisonment, probably sparing her from the major effects of this isolation. Jacks decision to lock her up was probably what had made her want to turn on Jack, but before the Vault Hunters of Borderlands 2 came through, she was hopeless in any chance of rescue of escape.
* Chapter 6: Relationship with Parents
Even though we know little about our Guardian Angel, we can assume that her relationship with her parents was a rocky one. Early in her life, before the accident with her mother, we could assume that Angel had a nice relationship with her parents. Jack was probably nicer, she had a mother who might have been nice, or could have been the role of the evil mother. After the incident with her mother, we can tell that Jack tried to be a good parent, as saying he was keeping her safe, and restricting her vocabulary from speaking “bad words”. Even though Jack thought he was doing a good job, Angel thought differently, even going as far to calling him an ■■■■■■■in her dying breath. Her relationship with her mother could be good, bad, neutral, but we probably wont find out. If it was indeed a bad relationship, then that may factor in to the altercation she had with her mother.
* Chapter 7: Tricking the First Vault Hunters
Angel was told to trick the first vault hunter, by her father. It is unknown why he helped her, but in doing so, it would eventually lead to her demise. It is possible that he tricked her.
Writing more later. Much more to come.
