Right now, I’m completely stuck where I’ve got to defeat The Sentinel … I mean this game’s got a hell of boss fights in every level. I’ve played both previous Borderlands from the beginning, completed every quest but this So called Pre-Sequel is different. I’m bored of being killed many times while playing a single. Why did they design like this?
Which character are you using?
General tips
You can’t stay still during this fight, keep jumping/moving.
When he changes his element, you can jump over the purple nova. Do a vertical boost to accomplish this easily.
Get the Hail assault rifle from Iwajira, he drops one fairly often. Has very good health-steal, and it does splash damage, which means you can hurt the Sentinel even when he’s spinning his staff. The Hail’s bullets will still get reflected when he does that though.
You can also use a bomber ozkit and transfusion grenades to heal yourself.
Hyperion weaponry is good for second winds.
Just unload a rocket launcher on his small phase, the large one is easier.
Other than that, yeah, post your class for more tips
Most folks are griping that the bosses (and game overall) is way too easy.
I think the balance is pretty good … of course I never finished the OP levels in BL2 … so folks who could do that … yeah, they might think anything is easy.
Anyways…
It is all up to learning the bosses … just like in the other games. Learn their movements, strengths, and weaknesses.
You’ll find a lot of help here. Just go the forum for the character you are using and see how folks are building the character and what weapons they are using.
The sentinel is a truly vertical fight. There are 7 phases.
The first 4 phases are pretty much the same challenge. Deal a lot of shock damage, survive. Depending on your class there are different techniques. With Athena I get the “lightsaber” laser from the side quest and then I get up close and personal. With Jack I use the middle skill tree and the shield sharing thing and equip a shock nova or ice nova shield. Once I beat a phase I double jump when she novas. With jack I prematurely stop his action skill so I can have the holojacks up when it matters.
Last 3 phases. Deal shock, then explosive/nonelemental and then shock again. Get the platforms when they rise. Get ammo and health from the little circles on the ground. Time your “fight for your life” if you need to so that you have something to kill, (the face mask counts as a kill and so do the flying enemies). When he tries to raise you from the ground, ground pound down away from his airborne nova. Each phase makes this a little more challenging but you can easily avoid all his novas once you learn it. For example, getting around to his other side, or prejumping/preslamming.
This boss is actually one of the best borderlands boss fights ever created, if not the best.
The E-Gun works really well after you get the shields down.
I also used an adaptive shield and transfusion grenades.
Ignore the ads. Save them for FFYL.
Jump. A lot.
also, buy a Moxxtail. i usually bought the 20% damage reduction one, when it was a close fight. i.e. fighting with Aurelia
Also one of the easiest things to do (on Normal and TVHM at least) do other missions/kill stuff until you match his level. It’s MUCH easier without the 2 level handicap. Extra note, adaptive shields are your friends.
I agree with much of the above advice. Some of my own tips:
Use beam lasers on the Sentinel. He cannot reflect that with his twirly staff thing, and still takes the damage. Even your far-outleveled Vibra-pulse will be useful here, with that continuous damage bonus. Also, E-gun is a great one (highest damage for a prurple Maliwan beam at its level, matched with Rosie).
Systems Purge oz kit is very helpful in this fight. Damages his minions when they’re close, wrecks the flying ones, and NE damage that’s hard to resist. Since it’s in-atmosphere, you don’t have to sweat your o2 supply, and it’s an easy-to-acquire mission reward. 3DD1.E is also a strong choice, if you can get one.
Remember that his elemental resistance matches his current type. If he’s spewing acid at you, he’ll resist that. Choose your weapon appropriately. Shock almost always wears his shield out, except when he’s in a shock phase.
Longnail, or any decent gun with the 30%-to-iggy-shields luneshine, will do great against this one. ESPECIALLY the Empyrean Sentinel, which is slow and has a huge critical spot.
Take a lap! Every now and then, need it or not, take a lap around the arena and restock ammo. You can sometimes get insta-healths from the little ammo belchers. Patience, Willow.
Use your action skill. A lot.
Adaptive shields are your pals. Haymaker is a great, easy-to-get one. You can farm a good purple from Iwajira pretty easily. Etc.
Most of all, play to YOUR strengths. There are 1,001 ways to skin this cat. Do it your way. And if it’s unique or cool, show us the video.
Seriously, I had a harder time with Felicity Rampant. The Sentinel is a pushover. Even his raid boss version is pretty easy, on the order of Pyro Pete. Hyperius would knock this fool out in the first round.
YOU GOT THIS!
Now, go get it!
Thanks for your help people. I tried som of your advices but I look like I ain’t fast enough to defeat this one. I became bored and upset so I uninstalled it.
Sorry to hear that. I think both boss level fights are actually pretty good. It just takes a while to figure your strategy and tailor a build.
Took me four hours to figure out Eclipse - Eos. But now that I’ve done that I have steadily Improved on it till it now takes me around six minutes.
So as the other posters are saying it’s just a matter oftechnique and getting the right build and tactics. Skill in the end has very little to do with it.
My biggest problem with this game are not the bosses. It’s that there are aren’t enough of those bosses. The game needs many more raid bosses for end game play ability.
I’m with Johnrr6: Sorry to hear that you’ve abandoned that one.
