Boosters dropped from shields are still manual pickup, amidst the “vacuum everything you can use” design philosophy, and it feels a bit strange and clunky. Especially because the boosters need to be grabbed mid-combat when you’re already damaged. I’m talking about the boosters that restore shields, health, and grant damage resistance. Quite likely to lose as much as they restore while fumbling for a pickup option.
I’m sure the drop chance/restore amount could be adjusted if auto-pickup made boosters a bit too strong, but I’m just really puzzled why they’re manual pickup. With the rest of BL3 combat feeling so clean this just stuck out like a sore thumb.
This annoyed me in BL2 as well.
I was hoping in BL3 it would be an auto pickup and also not be reliant on having an empty space in your back pack for it.
I get where you guys are coming from, but at the same time. if they were auto pickup…they’d basically just have to rework the shield effect to “has a chance when damaged to gain 15% shield instead”.
There’s a Shield you can get that drops two types of booster. One decreases damage but increases move speed and health regen, while the other increases damage but decreases move speed. The Damage buff one also drains a small amount of Health, too. If you were picking thise up automatically, you’d be cycling between more damage and less damage with no control, and a bad run of the damage ones could sap your Health with nothing you could do to stop it.
i’m not agreeing or disagreeing with this post… but i’ll chime in to mention:
not entirely
you can still see it and choose not to run toward it, “saving it for later”, like you might do normally with these
and the pick-up radius could be tweaked so it’s not just auto-sucking into you as it drops, only gaining the auto-pick up after a few seconds of landing on the ground, and also having a shorter “leash” than, say, ammo/etc pick-ups
the biggest problem i could see would be
this is where an issue comes in
this could just be a manual pickup for this specific shield, however, i guess, to alleviate that problem
but, again, i’m agreeing or disagreeing that this should need a change, but it’s a fair discussion, as there’s fair arguments to both sides of this
Oh, I wasn’t saying it was a bad idea. I was just pointing out that if done with everything, it could cause issues. The standard Booster Shields could work this way no problem.
it’s not like it’d be super hard to differentiate them either…(assuming the ones with multiple boosters are legendary…otherwise, setting up a script for if xyz prefixes shield is created tick the box that allows for manual pick up, could be cumbersome). It could be done, but giving the player multiple vacuums, or a leash law for that specific item seems like an odd way to fix it. /shrug, good points though
