How to: Change amount of time low quality loot stays active. (PC Only)

Alright so as the title of this thread suggests this is a guide on how to change the time frame that ammo, health, money, white gear, and green gear will be spawned in your game.

Step 1: Open the folder: C:\Users________\Documents\My Games\Borderlands\WillowGame\Config.
Step 2: Right click the file “WillowGame” and open its properties.
Step 3: Click the box that says “Read-only” so it is not checked. (You need to be able to edit the file after all) and then hit Apply and Ok.
Step 4: Open the file “WillowGame” with notepad.
Step 5: Hit Ctrl + F.
Step 6: Enter this: “ShortLivedDropLifeSpan=600” And hit enter (No quote marks).

The number 600 in the line you where just taking to represents seconds that ammo, money, health and whites will be active in game.

Step 7: Change the number “600” to how many seconds you wish this quality of gear to stay spawned.
Step 8: Scroll down one line to: “LongLivedDropLifeSpan=1800”.

This time the number 1800 represents greens in game. Notice mission greens will remain unaffected (Brains, keys, etc…).

Step 9: Change the number “1800” to how many seconds you wish this quality of gear to stay spawned.
Step 10: Save your progress and exit.
Step 11: Right click the “WillowGame” file and open its properties.
Step 12: Re-check the Read-only box and hit apply and Ok.
Step 13: Play the game.

Now you may be asking why anyone would want to do this. Personally lower the amount of time this loot is spawned and I have a few reasons why. I use it to decrease lag in online games because the less gear that’s on the ground the less lag my fellow teammates, and since I live in the boondocks and have horrible internet every bit helps. Another reason is you can do more craw runs without crashing your game due to what I call loot overload (to many things in game for game to handle) and it helps with sorting threw the junk in his piles as well. There is of course the “I don’t even look at green loot or lower anymore” factor for a decent amount of people. too. I hope this guide helps all you PC players in your loot-based endeavors and have a happy 2015 playing borderlands!

I do not claim to be the original for this idea

That’s a cool feature, Stouty. I’ll be sure to try this out. Thanks man!

I’ve seen PC functions that highlight the rare gear. Producing a larger weapon and color beam. Wish I had something similar on console to expedite farming runs

Very, very late to the party, I know, but quick question: If I change 1800 to, say, 45, it will ONLY affect greens? Wouldn’t want my blues and oranges to start vanishing before I even walk through the loot pile!

As far as I know you are un-able to change anything above green rarity. So blues, purples, oranges, and pearlescents will be fine.

Thanks! This is appreciated. I don’t get “loot lag” but I never loot at the whites or greens and the ammo I care about all regenerates faster than I can expend it, so this is a nice little trick.
