I have been doing a nostalgia play-though as Lilith. I figured Phasewalk is a bit like Zer0’s Deception, so no learning curve there!
Two skills on the elemental tree are just… I have no idea how the damage works lol. The one skill “Radiance” I was all OOOooo cool and then… wait what?! Max it out for the all mighty +5 damage biotches! It eats shields like no tomorrow, and then everyone’s a sparking firework display with tiny damage numbers falling off lol. It also burns your eyes out.
Then I get to the Pheonix skill, yet another “lol what the heck +5”. So I am totally combining both lol+5’s into the “ultimate” tiny number raindrops of mass annihilation?
There has to be more to these skills, or are they really what they say? +5 all the way?
Oh… or its just the multiplier number. It still feels pretty weak even if it IS a multiplier value.
edit: it depends on who you ask. some people like phoenix . others not so much.
Some sarcasm in here? I did some research in the old forums. I’m not sure Phoenix is that well rated. For it’s fire damage anyhow. I think people like it’s free ammo side benefit.
I used it all the time a long time ago but I hadn’t really studied it’s late game effect very much. I’m currently in the middle of a metro train borderlands 1 Lilith playthrough. And I have a point in phoenix.
I like the elemental effects triggering barrels actually (some people hate that). Because I control it. I am in phase walk long enough to ensure the barrels don’t damage me.
I am going to see how long I can use these skills for. FOR SCIENCE! Can the +5 keep up as the game goes on?
Radiance eats the crap out of shields, but I just got to new haven, so still low level. Phoenix seems ok so far (free ammo!), but the +5 thingy just drives me bonkers because I don’t know what its really doing lmao.
I’m not sure what the damage is based off of, but those just inflict damage based on the rank of the skill and your level. Just one of those skills. Phoenix is pretty cool for the ammo, but if you really wanna see it do damage take it to Zombie Island.
At level 69 Phonix is made OP, it kills anything that doesn’t resist fire in seconds. Chance to not use ammo is also really fun, especially with Sledges Shotgun.
I am a big fan a Radience, absolutky destroys shields and often kills weaker enemies while you’re focused on Badasses.
I usually take 5 Quicksliver, 5 Spark, 5 Radience, 5 Phoenix.
Venom is just bad, and the “Bunny One” I dislike during leveling because it makes it even easier to overlevel, but while at max I sometimes want extra speed so I sacrificie something else.
Cool to hear that Radience does something to these annoying Drifters. I always tend to be very careful around them… yuck!
The only negative thing from Phoenix is the reload bug - it can be quite frustrating, but only, when you aren’t aware of it in a tight situation.
Venom is not all that bad, if you focus on a PW melee striker Siren. At least it worked for me.
@Mr_Sandman mkay… I never noticed you could skip skills if there are enough points to go down the last tier… gotta try that out. Thx for this reminder!
Venom is kind of cool. Its extra melee damage and from what non-confirmed sources have told me something taking corrosive DOT damage will take increased damage from other sources. Don’t quote me on that last bit, I haven’t confirmed it or even researched it.
Venom can cause Corrosive DoT, but the chance is fairly low in my experience. It changes your melee damage type to Corrosive as well, which has it’s +'s and -'s.
Radiance endgame is pretty great from wrecking shields while you phasewalk camp next to enemies, but it’s not that great at killing things that aren’t wrecked by Shock damage (and few things are wrecked by Shock).
Phoenix’s Fire damage is really strong against many enemies because many enemies burn quite easily, it’s ammo save effect is also pretty great if you’re not bothered too much by that annoying reload glitch.
As for the math behind Radiance and Phoenix, you could use the Unreal Editor for Borderlands to pull out exact numbers, but the DoT (as w/ most DoTs) is % of health damage, which is why Drifters melt to Phoenix and Radiance (I’ve seen numbers in the 1000’s come pouring off of them before from Phoenix and Radiance DoTs, also had Phoenix 100-0 a Drifter by itself in all of a few seconds).
