Is it because they never adjusted the damage multipliers when combining elemental damage and roid damage? Or is it completely intentional? It makes Deathtrap one hit pretty much everything he can actually hit. If he could melee raid bosses it would be completely broken.

I explained the best could Deathtrap Melee Damage Formula (WIP) - hidden ROID buff AND INSANE SPLASH DAMAGE .. sometimes .

  • he gets an undocumented 40% bonus to roid damage (compared to vault hunters who get the value on card). This is not a big issue.
  • problem is the elemental splash that when roid bonus is active his splash multiplier jumps from 2 (which is already STRONG with elemental matching) to 10+ . (200 % to 1000+% ). Could be a BUG . Doesn’t break the game since he likes to spend so much time using his impotent eye beam against certain types of enemies …

Well, considering Gaige came out when 50 was still the cap they likely didn’t anticipate or balance the two capstones being used together. Nevertheless it makes a pure Deathtrap actually viable so I’m not at all complaining.

It is balanced. If you invest this much in DT (2 Capstones) Gaige herself isnt this strong.
Also, DT wont melee the majority of bosses, so.
You are also giving up your shield slot to DT, and Roid shields are pretty much useless on Gaige without With Claws.

It’s always possible to switch shields post summon. Beyond that, everyone’s favorite roid, the terra, has a nova you can proc over and over because of bss.

Outside the Firehawk and the Black Hole, due to their special effect actually, Nova shields arent really reliable.

Swaping shields is indeed a possibility, but I do not play this way personally. But that is just me.

Either way, giving DT both Capstones ends up hiting Gaige damage output and it is a worth tradeoff imo.
You can let DT carry you through the majority of the game but some bosses are going to give you a hard time.

…the firehawk might be the most useless nova on Gaige. Lol. Unless you mean using them for DT. Which I wasn’t saying. I was saying that Terra’s Roid isn’t wasted on Gaige because she can benefit from it’s spike and nova properties. I’m honestly so mad that Terra is the only Nova Roid in the game because it makes my Melee Gaige Grenade a little less pocket than I wanted. But I can’t fault the game for that. The Terra is a beast with so much going on. I’m just mad it became the cap of my build because I wanted so desperately to not use a Terra. Black Hole is my baby.

Funny, my plans include, but are not limited to: giving DT a Black Hole or WTF while I run a Terra. (I really wanna see how a WTF works on that lovely hunk of metal. It could kill me. I’m stoked).

But I missed your original point about it being balanced because I thought you meant something else and that’s my bad. Lol.

I agree, using both Caps for DT is a bit overkill, and does kinda leave Gaige with a little less room to play with points for herself. I put so few points into DT it’s funny. (I love my Bully Death Bot. But mama needs some Claws and Slag and Lightning…everywhere)

Gaige can still survive even without the buck up glitch, but the proc chance of WTF will hurt you since you need DT to buck your shield up or rinse in the pipes.

Well. That…that definitely proved that I can’t make the WTF viable on Gaige outside of mobbing like I had kinda hoped. I was working on this challenge with a friend where we pick a specific loadout that’s character based and try our hand at level 50 TVHMing the Raids. To see how the game technically felt at launch. I was considering the WTF as my raid shield since blackhole doesn’t really have magic in raids, and Terra won’t do me any real good without a Capstone, and I have none on my 50 build. So. Thanks for the info!

Hahahah true. But. My friend mains Zer0, so, we’re thinking we’ve got a good chance. I mean, we’re using some new gear (Electric Chair and Peak Opener for me…I mean…how can I not? It’s. A. Shocket Launcher.) so who knows how this is gonna go. But we’re trying our best not to over cheese it.

Clarification: the 50 raid challenge is more an exercise in role playing the characters than it is about our skill at playing. But also. It’ll improve us

i did normal and tvhm raiding with maya and I can say the dragons are way more difficult in normal and tvhm rather than in uvhm.

Yes, I meant using for DT. But the Firehawk is pretty solid for Gaige too. Try it with a Kitten in a BFF + OC build! :slight_smile:

About the Hide, you just dont use it for the Nova or the Spiked. They are there and are a good plus, but you dont build around them.
You just want the Roid.

I mean, the strongest part of the FotF is that it continues going until recharge. My Gaige will only get off one, maybe two of those, and as such, negates the bonus of the shield. I wouldn’t build around it personally. My BSS is the center of my build. I like the FotF on a character who will run their shield to zero and leave it there.

I mean, I’m building around alllll the features of Terra. Lol. That 3mil Nova at 80 is nothing to sneeze at when you can multi proc it.

Yeah, but playing an aggressive style I’m always depleting my shields in the way to the next target so having the novas constantly healing me because Im holding my Kitten is welcome.
So the Firehawk ends up being both a nice damage source through SiC and a healing source through the Moxxi guns effect. That is why I say we can build around it but can not build around the Hide side effects.

You know what I just remembered? My issue with FotF actually stems from my use of Unstoppable Force as a pounce skill. It almost always ruins my chance of utilizing Firehawk. Cause what happens is BSS brings me full on kill. Awesome, I can nova. But I almost always lose my shield while UF is up, which means the Nova procs, then dies, and doesn’t come back. That shield recharge is honestly my biggest complaint. Managing that skill is actually probably the weirdest part of my Melee Gaige Grenade build.

My build also makes use of a Moxxi gun. But I love the Slow Hand. It’s very very fun for my methods :slight_smile:

US indeed ruins the Firehawk spam, and I swap it for PaaP as it also gives DT more survivability.
I miss the move speed thou.

Yeah, it’s probably the most obnoxious thing in the trees. That the movement speed, great for melee builds, also ruins roid shields.

Neither one of these Capstones is really broken. If anything they’re both fairly underwhelming considering they completely dedicated to Deathtrap. As far as shields that work well on him, the primary choice I’ve found to be at the very least fun is The Black Hole. He also get really good use out of The Hide of Terramorphus, but really Gaige really benefits from both of the shields as well, especially if you’re speced into Blood Soaked Shields. Although I almost never take BSS and UF (controversially) because I still say they’re counter-intuitive skills to one another. Outside if those I’m not sure about the facination of giving Deathtrap The Flame of the Fire Hawk? He’d almost be better off with The Deadly Bloom, or even the The Implaler. The Antagonist works pretty well for him, or even The Hoplite although, I haven’t been able to test that in a while. If someone could let me know if he gets the health and speed penalty from The Hoplite. I just really get upset about Gaige’s capstones, or really just the composition of her skill trees in general, but ESPECIALLY her capstones. So NO her capstones aren’t broken.
