Borderlands 1 Causes my Gaming Laptop to Sieze Up Until Restart

I made this thread on the steam forums already and no one on there was able to help me so I am taking it to the gearbox forums. Whenever I close Borderlands 1 on my computer, it crashes my computer. New programs won’t open and new steam games will not open until I restart the machine. Other games such as League of Legends that have no ties to steam do not open either and youtube videos will load, but freeze until I restart the computer as well. I am able to skip through the video and see it frame by frame but it will not play. I have checked my computer for viruses, I have reinstalled Borderlands 1, and I also have verified the game files via steam and everything checks out, however the problem still persists. If it matters, when I close Borderlands 1 the my screen will go back to my desktop and then go black for one second and then back to the desktop. When the screen flashes like that the problems begin. Any help would be greatly appreciated

Asus Rog G750 with an 860m graphics card, Intel I7 processor running on Windows 8

  1. Windows 8 or 8.1? (Specs say 8.1, I’m just making sure)

  2. Try re-installing the latest version of DirectX 9.0C. You can download it directly from Microsoft’s website:

http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=8109

  1. Ensure your video card drivers are up to date. You’ll need to get the drivers from Asus though I know of a lot of people who have had good luck with the drivers directly from nVidia.

  2. If Asus supplies a display (FHD Screen) driver, ensure it is installed.

  3. If you are having difficulties with other games then my guess is Windows built-in security interference. If that is the case, backup your games, uninstall Steam then re-install Steam to C:\Steam then restore your games.

You could also be having issues with your anti-virus as well. Try turning-off anti-virus, play the game, exit and see if the problem persists.
