Borderlands One and Console Backwards Compatible Owners

Sorry for posting this topic in this category but it didn’t have a Borderlands One category available.

My topic is about Console Players who bought the backwards compatible pack for BL1 and the DLC’s and why no one is addressing the fact that Console Players who want to play the New Remastered Version coming out on April 3rd are going to have to buy BL1 AGAIN! Meanwhile PC gamers who have the game is going to be free.

If you look at the price for the backwards compatible pack and the DLC’s it practically costs the price of a new game as it is so why aren’t console owners granted the remastered version like the PC players?

Any real answer would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you very much.

Took the liberty of editing your post. Just so you know, starting a line with four or more spaces gets the text rendered as source code. That’s why your text was in a giant scrolling box!

Anyway, I can’t provide proper a proper answer since I have absolutely no inside knowledge and am not an employee of GBX, 2K, or MS. I can, however, offer a few general observations:

  • The backwards compatible version of BL1 was released by Microsoft as a way to let those who’d moved to XB1 continue playing the game; it remains free to anyone who purchased the game digitally on 360 or still has a retail install disk of some kind.
  • Making it avialable as a purchase item was a logical step for those who’d either never owned the game, had sold it when they got rid of their 360, or had a damaged disk that wouldn’t read.
  • While GBX may have some say in the pricing, it would appear to be mostly down to MS and 2K (the official publisher) to determine pricing
  • The BL1 GOTY Remaster for XB1 is, like BL2 and TPS in the Handsome Collection, a complete rebuild of the game to run native on XB1 and PS4; it is not something that can be offered simply as an update to the 360 version, since the underlying platform architecture and aspects of the XBox OS are different. This is somewhat different to the case for PC.

Other than that, I assume the current differences in price mostly reflect the nature of the market between the different platforms, and whatever input 2K and MS have on pricing decisions.

My suggestion would be two-fold: you could start a petition requesting similar treatment on XBox to PC; you could delay purchase until there is a change in pricing either due to policy or the inevitable sale.

As I said, I realise that doesn’t really answer your question. I hope that I have at least managed to fill in some of the background for you. I will, however, pass on your comment to GBX staff for their consideration.

Thank. I don’t usually post threads so I had no idea why it was doing a wrap around with the text. And yes it gave me quite a bit insight on how marketing works. Although I did go back and price the game and all 4 dlc’s for borderlands and comes out to 50$ before tax. So with that being said I feel those who have already spent that money should get the remastered version already paid for. I hope April 3rd they are not going to price the remastered version at 59.99$ for a game that is now 10 years old.

Well that I can help you with:

When I clicked through on the preorder button it quoted $29.99 CDN. Didn’t do it in US funds but iirc others have posted that as being on par.

Excellent. Thank you very much. 30$ seems fairly reasonable. I checked the Xbox One Market and I couldn’t find a pre-order for the BL1 remastered! I live in the US and wonder why it’s not available yet?

I don’t know what’s going on with this - there is an announcement scheduled on the official release date, so maybe we’ll find out more then. At least there doesn’t appear to be any kind of pre-order bonus at play here, so no-one will be missing out by not pre-ordering. I could be wrong, but I think the preorders might be for physical disk copies, since they’re through GameShop/EB Games or the 2K store?

Okay. Makes sense. It was confirmed though that BL1 is to be released on April 3rd?

Yes.

I hope the price will be around the same on PS4. Barely played it on the PS3 so I don’t care about my old save. I often looked for it in the past but beside the PS Now version. Only had the “Ultimate Edition” @ $100 !! Not paying that for a 10 yo game…
Still doesn’t show on the PS store tho. Better be there on the 3rd.
Or else I’ll … I will…
Feel miserable.

I’m sure console market places will get updates for the third when they list the new free monthly games it will be added. It is 29.99$ pre order at GameStop so I’m sure it’s gonna be the price for all consoles.
