While quickly turning in the Rock, Paper, Genocide missions, Marcus said something weird in an echo recording like voice. Instead of giving his normal instructions on Corrosive weapons, he said:
“Hello Scooter. Since you are a freeloading piece of crap, I sold your stuff to the black market.”
Even though Subtitles were on, those words did not appear.
Here is a highlight of the video with the strange lines starting at about 45 seconds.
Every now and then, there’s some “odd/unusual” dialogue that pops up. I don’t thin k I’ve heard this one, but I have heard unusual dialogue from the VH’s from time to time. There’s a spot in the Dust, just as you turn the last corner before you get to the gate that leads to Eridium Blight. It’s as if something is in the ground, and when you hit it, it results in rare dialogue. I’ve heard this from both maya and Zero, but I suppose it can trigger on any of them.
Things like this is always fun to discover. Nice one, @rja!
Years ago, when I was just starting BL2, I could swear that when I opened The Box for Gwen’s Head that I heard Scooter’s voice instead of Jack’s voice. I had only opened that box a few times, so I just assumed that different people would say that line, but it was always Jack’s voice after that. It’s been so long ago, that now I doubt my memory.
Something else to consider, why did Gearbox have this script in the game? They paid the voice actor (Bruce DuBose is in the credits) to read it.
I cannot think of any interaction between Scooter and Marcus, although there is a lot of the game that I rarely play. Maybe I’m just missing the part where this would take place.
Is this something that was cut from the final game?
I would guess it was a side mission that got cut. Semi-related, there is quite a bit of dialog from vendor-based vending machines that was cut (with the exception of Torgue).

It happened again. This time during the UVHM playthru.
Again, it was during the Corrossive weapon part of the mission.
VERIFY INTEGRITY OF GAME FILES… in Steam properties came up with the usual
“1 file failed to validate and will be reacquired.” message which I always get.
