Legendary drops from the less common Loot Midgets

I’ve always been a firm believer that Loot Midgets of the uncommon kind (Rats, Goliaths, Nomads etc) can only drop some ammo when they are killed. But after getting my third legendary from a Loot Midget Rat, I’m starting to question myself. Is it just sheer coincidence that a world drop occurs from the same type of enemy on three different occasions? All three drops came from an LM Rat.

What say you, people?

I say you should buy a lottery ticket while your luck holds out!

That said, I’m not sure what tier enemy a Loot Midget Rat is - some levels of enemies may have an extra roll or two at the world loot drop pool? Unfortunately, that still means recording multiple thousands of runs to determine statistically. But hey, if you have nothing on your schedule for a couple of months…

Hey Ronnie, long time member and Borderlands Vet.
This is an interesting question. I’d like to know if the LM you’re speaking of have the “Legendary” in the title of their name? Or are they just Loot Midget Rat, etc?

Wasn’t there a gallery someone compiled at one point of all the different midget varieties? Asking, because now I can’t remember if I’ve ever had a midget rat jump out of a loot box of any kind. Although I’ve certainly had my fill of them in The Fridge… :rat:

same here. I’ve always hated the fridge, and don’t frequent there often. I may have to start visiting there to see if I can get a Loot Midget Rat.

I don’t recall ever seeing one of the uncommon midgets as “Legendary” at all, so I’m pretty sure that all three were regular LM rats. My memory is a bit sketchy on the first one, but the other two were in NVHM or TVHM, and there are no LLM’s there at all, iirc.

I think you are correct on this. I have never seen a LLM outside of UVHM. I think you just got lucky on your legendary drops from the non-legendary loot midgets. I’ve actually farmed the LM in WEP outside of UVHM and didn’t get anything.

I’ve had a few orange drops from LMs in NVHM and TVHM.

Truth be told, the very first Legendary I ever got (back before the loot-boost-patch and not including FOTFH) was from an LM in Sawtooth. Which was why I sort of psychologically favored it over WEP for LLM hunting in the future.

I think it may be a case of something as simple as more loot drops = more rolls = higher chance but slightly = roll enough you win.

I agree with this.

I’ve certainly gotten a legendary from a LM in normal- last time it happened was in Tundra Express while getting the badonkadonks for Tiny Tina- one popped out of a box on the helipad as you go to climb the Buzzard’s Roost…

I’ve had many orange drops from LMs in normal and TVHM over the years (my first-ever KerBlaster was from an LM in Tundra Express in TVHM in fact). It seems to feel like the same drop chance as their LLM cousins in UVHM, though of course the LLMs also have a high chance of dropping an Ancients relic, which seems to be an extra drop to whatever legendary/pearl they drop but I’m not 100% sure, I don’t think I’ve paid enough attention to that. (I do know for sure that if a tubby drops a pearl, it’s an extra drop on top of whatever else drops from its 100% chance pool (legendary class mod, Bunny, etc.)

Oh this is my jam!

They definitely do in UVHM.

This may have been me. lol

They just spawn like regular enemies, they don’t pop out of containers.

I spent a few months doing Sawtooth runs a while back and got them all to spawn several times. From what I could tell, they have the same loot pool as regular LLM’s. Sometimes (most of the time, actually) I’d get nothing, sometimes an e-tech relic, a few times I got legendary mods. If I had to guess, I’d say it’s the same.

Oh yeah! This is my area of preferred expertise in regards to LLM’s.

Sawtooth is not only my farming location of choice, but those super rare midgets are special to that area. They have the same chances of dropping a legendary as other (normal) midgets. The rarity lies within their spawn itself. They spawn as specific enemy types as a bonus type deal. Their drop rates remain unchanged, but take heart in just encountering the different spawns as they hold value in and of themselves.

Here is a link to a web archive of the old forum post by @Homedawg1 titled " Guide to Legendary Loot Midgets - Now with a Guide Video!".

Unfortunately, the Guide Video doesn’t show up. The source for that page says it WAS “http://www.youtube.com/v/8Xlgqqj207Y” but it is now listed as a “Private video” on Homedawg1’s YouTube playlist for Borderlands 2 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Xlgqqj207Y&list=PLN0PLC1Yx__I-jCxvxcgkotRzXwLLAkU0&index=1).

That’s a nice link! There is a picture gallery of all the Loot Midget variants on the current forums somewhere. Not sure if it has locations listed though?

they also may spawn during finks slaughter house rounds. same thing w/ chubby midget. but it would be interesting why only sawtooth cauldron&finks slaughter house … because diversity of enemies ? so it is too bad other bandit areas are less varied in matter of enemies

Tundra Express spawns a fair number of LM in normal, particularly around the buzzard area.
