Why is the "Inspiring" Prefix never listed in any of the prefix list?

Is this just one of those prefixes that people don’t bother to list because it literally means nothing? I get it from time to time and I keep wondering if it has hidden properties.

Short answer. Inspiring is the prefix assigned based on the grip it has if there is no accessory that provides a prefix that would have a higher priority. So an Inspiring sniper rifle is one of Hyperion manufacture, matching grip, and no superseding naming convention. @3298 explains it well in this post that is accompanied by copious amounts of tables.

I believe the wiki’s Prefix page is incomplete and/or incorrect. The above post by the inimitable 3298 will be accurate. I recommend bookmarking it - I have, and so has @paulothead. :grinning:

It looks like all of Hyp’s guns can be Inspiring. Except their snipers because they suck :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Looks like these two ninjas got you covered. Just one more thing:

I’ve discarded my share of white Inspiring Sniper Rifles, so they can definitely have that prefix. :wink: I’ve checked the tables if there was a mistake there - but Ctrl-F brings me to all four of the grip prefix tables for pistols, shotguns, SMGs, and sniper rifles.
On that note, though…

Hopefully. There might be some errors lurking still. And then there’s the case of the missing specifics on the rules for shield prefixes. (Those are currently unknown.) And the formatting could be improved. And so on. I need to get working on it again.

The wiki’s a lot better than it used to be though. A few forum members banded together to overhaul it a couple years ago. It’s actually pretty good all things considered. Just not perfect.

I saw exactly what happened with that wiki page I looked at that page a lot for reference because I hadn’t memorized the meanings of all the prefixes at that time. It used to be complete, but a few years ago, someone removed the lists and replaced them with tables from another site. The tables looked more symmetrical, but were incomplete. I remember being a little bent about it. I used that page all the time, and some noob came along and changed it presumably because they thought having symmetrical looking tables was an improvement over accuracy. “Hey, guys, look I’m a helper!”

Because I had been there just hours before the edit, I had the old images in my browser cache, so I removed them and put them in a folder. I’ve been waiting years to vent about that. Thank you

You can still check out that revision of the page via its saved history. The images only listed accessory-based prefixes - no gemstone, element-based, grip-based, or barrel-based prefixes. (Meaning you wouldn’t have found the “Inspiring” prefix anywhere in those old tables.) They were older than Pre-Sequel too, so no Scav, old-Hyperion or cryo prefixes in there either. For a few years there were text-based tables which did the same (though they were gradually expanded to cover the new Pre-Sequel stuff), then someone came and brought it to the current state which unfortunately lacks BL2’s Hyperion grip-based prefixes (someone apparently failed to notice that for grips the BL2’s Hyperion isn’t the same as TPS’ new-Hyperion) and the very odd case of Bandit Darts (which is a barrel-based prefix).
In 2014 there were lists of prefixes in place of the tables which did have some grip-based and element-based prefixes (I’m assuming you’re referring to those), but they were a mess: some had no description, some had a wrong description (e.g. Auto Correcting on Hyperion pistols: it doesn’t enhance recoil reduction, because that’s the prefix for a Maliwan grip), some were completely wrong (e.g. Forlorn doesn’t appear on Vladof pistols - it’s an AR prefix). No gemstones, and of course no Pre-Sequel as that wasn’t even released at that time. So…

… the tables actually improved the accuracy. Granted, the cost was completeness, but still. The completeness was remedied (for the most part) last year. What the wiki has now is better than it ever was before, even though it’s still not perfect.

Yes, and it did have errors, but because it was text, a better solution would have been to perform a simple text edit to correct those errors, rather than import image files of tables from a different site, which were also inaccurate, very, very, incomplete, and, because they were image files, not searchable.

Right, this, and also those old image files that preceded these current tables is why you see questions asking what asset, deferred, facilitating, granular, inspiring, practical, and refactored mean on various sites. The old text-based entry included these.

Yes, it’s much better. I was referring specifically to a c.2014 edit in which the text was replaced by image files of tables from a third site, not the current entry page, although that also doesn’t include Hyperian pistol grip prefixes, and those are the prefixes that people ask about the most because they’re common prefixes for two gamebreaking guns, and since 2014, haven’t been included in the wiki entry.

The images were there from early 2013 (March 24, to be exact) till 2018. The lists were replaced by text tables in late 2014 (November 30). Something in your narrative doesn’t quite line up with recorded history.
Additionally, the message accompanying the 2013 edit that added the images (from WarBlade, one of the wiki admins) suggests that they were merely moved there from another page, not from a third-party site.
